Both sides of this story seem unbelievable to me, both the boyfriend and the police.

Local police did not/could not get a search warrant to search the boat... Really? The girlfriend of a man with a criminal history of violence is suddenly missing and he was the last person to see her... I think any judge on the mainland would grant that warrant in 10 seconds.

There has got to be much more to this story that we don't know yet.

My question about this scenario is, if you care one iota about your girlfriend, you don't just assume she's dead because she fell overboard. A good swimmer can tread water or float or swim to shore, though may not be able to call out.

Maybe he doesn't care though? The websites and social media picturing the yacht seem to feature a succession of Sarm lookalikes and alternates. She's the third girlfriend he's employed as his chef according to one of the DM links posted upthread. Maybe he upgrades to a new model every time he gets fed up with his current one. Maybe he doesn't even have to pay them if he acts like they're his girlfriend as well as his chef, tells them he loves them, tells them they're his partner in the business, tells them, in short, all the same sort of BS that even men without yachts seem to be able to get away with. I can't guess at what he feels. Lots of people have been struck by how little he seems to be doing to help find her though.

I also think you can't predict what people will do when they're very drunk (and they may both have been very drunk, not just him, tbf).

Wild speculation of course. Just chucking theories out there. I have others if you don't like this one! A drunken accident seems more plausible than many, though, imo.

JMO, MOO, as always.

I'm sure he'll say the media scrutiny was unbearable, forgetting to mention that his girlfriend is missing and he's literally distancing himself from it.

Removing himself:
Physically
Availability /Access (for searches to find evidence etc)
Internationally (probable/possible)

Boyfriend of missing Sarm Heslop hires Ghislaine Maxwell's attorney

American boyfriend of missing Sarm Heslop hires Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyer | Daily Mail Online

Edit to add bullet points from the story.
  • Ryan Bane, the boyfriend of Sarm Heslop, has hired lawyer David Cattie, a US Virgin Islands-based attorney whose clients include Ghislaine Maxwell
  • Cattie has represented Maxwell in her bid for Jeffrey Epstein's estate to pay her legal fees and handled prosecutors' efforts to block her attempts
  • Cattie's past clients also include a boat captain who was cleared of Seaman's Manslaughter in January 2019
  • Move suggests Bane could be preparing for a legal battle over the disappearance of his British girlfriend who was last seen on his boat March 8
  • Bane has not been cooperating with authorities and has refused to allow them to search his 47-foot catamaran. He is not a suspect nor person of interest

Oh gosh this just gets even more intense...

This sounds like a guilty person, I mean has he literally googled lawyers that have won boating ma slaughter cases.

He isn’t helping himself at all if he is innocent, there has to be more to this.

The boyfriend of a British woman missing in the US Virgin Islands allegedly declined to allow coastguards to access the inside of his yacht after they boarded on a search-and-rescue mission.

Ryan Bane refused permission for a US coastguard team to look inside the staterooms of Siren Song, his 47ft catamaran, from which he says Sarm Heslop disappeared in the early hours of March 8. “They stayed on the upper aft deck and Mr Bane wasn’t wanting anyone to go inside the vessel,” Ricardo Castrodad, of the coastguard, said.

So the truth comes out. It makes me wonder if his friend who's been quoted in msm knew that the search was limited and chose to spin the story a bit or if RB omitted some parts. So much for the Coast Guard "searching" the boat.

Either way IMO it makes RB look awfully suspicious. And IMO he sounds awfully cold for a boyfriend who supposedly was wild in love with Sarm.

Today -

The yacht left St. John at some point overnight and it is not clear where Bane is.

(Also - new quotes from RB's ex-wife in the article.)

He seems to have an affinity for night sailing. Per the DM article I'm glad the notoriously nosey reporters are following RB around. If LE can't or won't keep track of his movements at least we know someone is.

I'm so mad about that truncated Coast Guard search! A woman's life is at stake here!!

Could he be more blatant, just yatching away?

And the CG being on the boat is certainly not the same as searching the boat. Nice try to spin.

Never thought I would say this, but good for the DM for following him around.

Bane, 44, an American who owns and captains the vessel for private charter trips, received a citation from the US Coast Guard that day relating to regulatory matters. “The search was still going on and...

The article cuts off for me but why on earth would RB prefer to receive a citation from the Coast Guard rather than just let them take a look below? Hinky to the max!

I am sure many of you share my thoughts right now.

My heart breaks for Sarm, and her friends and family. We all know what happened here.

Every one of these breaks my heart, all over again.

It could have been me, they tell you they've changed. They never do. It could have been any of us.

Sorry, two versions of my original post appeared and then disappeared, so I'm hoping this only posts once.

I've made maps showing markups of the restaurant and boat locations, as well as the wider area for context. Sorry, someone may have posted similar earlier in the thread but I can't find it. It's notable how shallow the water is, but I gather currents are typically very strong there so anyone in the water could easily be carried out over a period of several hours. I wonder how far the search radius was?

Gallows Head has a resort - I wonder whether there would be anyone staying there at the moment? If not, and it is operating reduced hours/activity, then there is definitely a chance they could have been arguing or had some other type of interaction on the return without being heard/noticed.

I'm assuming there is a lot more the authorities know that we are not privy too, naturally. Likewise for RB's vocal, supposed friend....

If he didn't allow the inside search there's a very high probability her remains could have been still on board MOO unfortunately now he left, whatever he might have been hiding, could be disposed in deep waters..
So frustrating, I just don't understand why there was not enough reason to get a warrant.
I really feel for her family, I still hope they find her but I don't think she's alive imo and I don't think it was just an accident. All JMO.

Is it actually feasible that he has been sat there this whole time with Sarm's body hidden on the boat somewhere? Why wouldn't he have left sooner?

Because he *knows* he is smarter than the lame local police and he's hired a totally crooked lawyer. I posed a ways back, this lawyer also had a local politico as a client who was sent to prison for a long time on corruption and (maybe?) fraud. On top the Ghislane representation.

Not a lawyer you hire if you are innocent; a lawyer you hire if you are guilty because they have a good record of defending that type of criminal.

I see. That's interesting... I interpreted your comment at the time that he could have hired a lawyer who knew the workings of the local LE expressly because he feared being framed. I'm still not convinced that's not a potential consideration for this, and that he is desperately wanting to keep a low profile.

Whilst I completely see the rationale that he has a history, not much else has come forward (other women/exes?) to reinforce that, unless I'm mistaken. It is possible for people to reform from being a-holes.

I don't deny his behaviour is suspicious but it could also be interpreted as someone who is very private, introverted, suffering in other ways.

I'm still not convinced yet, but can see how it does look.

I agree. I'm not saying there aren't things that are suspicious but I assure you he, his lawyers and the authorities know more than us. In addition, I'd assume it's his lawyer calling the shots. Something that has bothered me is why even call the cops at 2:30 am if something happened and he was hiding it. I'm sure he would have had more than 4.5 hours had he simply not called. Even though he didn't call the coast guard, you're certainly starting the clock when you alert any authorities. I'm curious as to how social RB & Sarm were and how quickly anyone else would have noticed her missing had it not been reported.

Fridge? In a suitcase in a locked room? I'm sure it could be done if noone else is on board, he could sleep outside. Although his father was said to be staying on boat for a while.
Just speculating all MOO

I thought his dad showed up after Sarm went missing. I bet there is a link here but too lazy to search hard, so MOO

Yes he did. I only mentioned that because he could have seen/smelt something if on board
