Utah couple paid babysitter in heroin, prosecutors say

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Eric Millerberg injected the heroin into 16-year-old Alexis Rasmussen and had sex with her.

Prosecutors say the Millerbergs had a drug-fueled, salacious sexual relationship with Rasmussen that caused her death in September.

This story just makes me very sad. She was a beautiful girl - and look what happened because she was involved with drugs.

Has Dea been charged with sexual abuse? If not, she should be!

Dea Millerberg said the trio shot up heroin once and methamphetamine twice that night. Each time, she said, Eric Millerberg prepared the drugs and he was also the one to inject them into the teenager's arm and neck. When they returned and found her unresponsive, Dea Millerberg attempted CPR to no avail. Then, "it was really a panic."

Prosecutors have called Dea Millerberg's involvement "minimal" compared to her husband's role. She has pleaded not guilty to one count of abuse or desecration of a human body, a third-degree felony.

Dea could've have stopped this. BS on her and her attorney. She is just as guilty as her Sicko husband.
Both need to pay for this!
Tthis prosecuter needs to charge them both with murder.

ITA. Dea also lied and lied to everyone about what happened, including Alexis' mother, who she was friends with. She only started talking because she was arrested on drug charges. If that had not happened I'm positive Dea would still be lying! And I don't buy her story either. People like her always minimize and downplay their involvement. Too bad the ME could not tell what the COD was. Ironic how that killers are rewarded for succesfully hiding a body to the point the ME can't tell what happened.

I went to bed last night angry over this case and I'm still angry this morning.

Dea makes it sound like Alexis begged them for sex and drugs. Riiiight. She completely downplays her involvement.

One of their most raucous nights as a group came in August, a month before her death, when Alexis reportedly asked to become sexually involved with the married couple.
'Eric and I started kissing and having sex. Then Alexis jumped in,' Mrs Millerberg told the court

ETA: And why the hello were these pervs having sex in front of their babysitter to begin with?

Unfortunately, Alexis is not here to defend herself either.

I think it is entirely possible that this couple "helped" Alexis to become addicted to drugs. It suited their purposes entirely. They also I am sure took advantage of her when she was high on the drugs. This is exactly how human trafficking starts. I am not saying that Alexis was necessarily an angel, but these two "adults" took advantage of this teen. They also raped her - yes it is rape even if she allegedly consented. She was not of age, and they supplied her with drugs before having sex with her. That - plain and simply - is RAPE.

I agree with you SuziQ - they both disgust me to no end!

WTH is in the water the prosecutors in Utah are drinking?

There is nothing minimal about an adult woman doing drugs with and having sex with a minor girl. She should be fully charged as an accomplice or straight out as a perpetrator. IMHO :banghead:

My fear is that they made a plea agreement with her in exchange for her testimony against her husband. However, don't they have enough evidence to charge without her testimony?

ITA. I'm sure there was a plea deal or something given the ME could only rule this was a suspicious death. But with the recent revelations in Susan Powell's case I'm beginning to ask the same question you are.

I absolutely hate plea bargains. If she admitted to having sex with this girl, that should not have been a free pass for testimony. :banghead:

A 2013 trial date has been set for the man accused of killing a North Ogden teenager in 2011 by injecting her with fatal amounts of drugs.

Eric Millerberg, 37, is charged in 2nd District Court with child abuse homicide, a first-degree felony, as well as obstructing justice, desecrating a body and having unlawful sexual activity with a minor. On Tuesday, Judge Scott Hadley scheduled a six-day trial to begin on July 22.

http://fox13now.com/2013/04/02/suspect-in-rasmussen-death-wants-a-change-of-venue/

Lawyers for Eric Millerberg want his trial to be moved from Weber County to Summit or Salt Lake County. They say the community has become more close-knit since Rasmussen was reported missing.

Defense attorney Randall Marshall indicated in December that he would file a motion asking for Millerberg’s trial to be held in a different county, but didn’t do so until March 22. Oral arguments about the venue change were scheduled for Tuesday, but were delayed until May 8 so prosecutors could respond
