UT-Army Dugway Proving Grounds on Lockdown

Well I just sent a note to KSL5 saying "Thanks for going to bed and leaving us hanging".

It's probably a theft of some type. Could be anything, a chemical, machine gun, grenade, night vision equipment, no tellin. They would want it confined to the base while they investigate. Just guessing of course, the military would issue a warning if it was chemical, gas or biological release. IMO

We've had the theft issues in the past. We even had an espionage type incident with missing documents. This lockdown is longer and more secret than the ones in the past.

If any of you have loved ones that work on ANY of the military bases then you are probably aware that terrorists are constantly testing base security trying to gain access, although the military does not publicize that fact. This just might be the situation here. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone affected that the situation, whatever it is, is resolved quickly and safely.

I am just going to hope and pray that this is resolved quickly, with no loss of life or vital information. Maybe we aren't meant to know, and the chances are that we might never know what happened there, but as long as everyone makes it out safely, that's good enough for me. (Sorry, my stepdad was military, I grew up with a lot of "You don't need to know" and "Honey, don't ask me about my job, you know I can't tell you.")

Dugway Proving Ground has reopened after nearly 12 hours in lockdown.

People who work on the base had to spend the night in their offices or cars because they weren't allowed to leave. That changed around 5 a.m. as those on base were allowed to leave and those showing up were allowed to enter. No word on the cause of the lockdown. Dugway says it should be able to release that information later this afternoon. Workers KSL spoke with Thursday morning say they do not have clearance to talk about the cause of the lockdown.

The U.S. Army's Dugway Proving Ground has been locked down since 7:25 p.m. ET on Wednesday, a spokeswoman said. All base personnel were working, and no evacuation was needed, she said.
As of about 6:15 a.m. ET Thursday, "We have allowed personnel outside the gate to enter Dugway ... and are making preparations to begin allowing personnel to go home shortly," said Paula Thomas, spokeswoman for the proving ground.

I've pretty much accepted that we'll never know why.

Not sure exactly how to interpret this comment posted at the link below. A poster who has the initials C_O_S quoted something he/she said was from KUTV. I checked KUTV and I can't find it, so not sure where this information came from (BBM).

" At NO time were the public ever in any immediate danger, let me stress this. A harmless binding agent was unaccounted for, this product does NOT pose any threat to human life, but per policy and procedure, we had to lock everything down - again, at NO time was the public in any danger"

If there are military spouses stationed near there (I'm not familiar with this area) you can bet that if it really was anything significant the internet would be buzzing loud and hard on the boards for us. Haven't heard anything Suzi, I'll keep my ear to the ground for ya though if you want :)

What is a "harmless binding agent"?

Cheese?

Fox news reporting it was an unaccounted for vial of nerve agent. The vial was located last night and accounted for. Lock down ended

Missing vial of nerve agent triggers Dugway shutdown

The vial was located, uncompromised, at 3 a.m. Thursday within the facility. Dugway officials did not specify exactly where the vial, containing less than 1 milliliter, or roughly a quarter-teaspoon of the agent, was found — nor did they detail how the vial had gone missing in the first place, or whether anyone was being disciplined as a result of the incident.

I am glad the situation was resolved. Dugway has had this situation before where they've miscounted or misplaced an agent of some sort. It's never been handled like this incident was. The base issues a vague generic statement and the media goes home and goes to sleep. The base takes these situations seriously. Well so do I!

I'm very tired and cranky today! lol

I just saw this, was sleeping off the flu last night ugghhhh, anyways, here in Co springs, Carson was locked down yesterday for something weird, and a school district was on lock down because of threats to a family at Schreiver AFB, in the springs. When I saw this headline, I thought that they may be connected, but I guess maybe not. We have SO MANY bases in CO, I guess these thing happen :)

I am so glad someone is demanding answers on this. The lack of information given out was not cool. It's scary when LE didn't even know what was going on.

Did Army fail to notify Utah leaders of missing nerve agent?

I was just having a discussion with my husband about how I don't trust anything that is "official"! If there appears to be a crisis, and an 'official' agent of the government is making a declarative statement, my alarm bells always go off! I would hardly classify a missing 'nerve agent' as a "harmless binding agent"! Good grief!!! My instincts tell me we still don't really know what was happening that night. We aren't even close..... MOO.
