Hi all - i'm new, so please be gentle :).

Has anyone looked into Kayla Croft-Payne? It lists her hair as black, but in some of the photos it doesn't appear that black was her natural color. It also look's like she was removing her brows and drawing them in, but in the color photo they look pretty light. I thought the first two photos in the Namus profile bore a pretty striking similarity to our girl.

Her teeth look okay but there's one photo where you can just barely see that her bottom teeth are crooked.

She also strikes me as a possibility because the report mentions that she's a transient.

Probably a long shot but she caught my eye.

Thanks! I guess I should out myself as FiveFelines' lurking sister :).

I do think Kayla's background fits our JD whether or not it turns out to be her.

I'm not saying our Doe lived down here, but this is pretty fascinating: 1,000 homeless people living in the tunnels below Vegas.

I mentioned the people that live underground in a vegas on the first page, for whatever reason that was my first thought when I looked at Doe. The people that live in those tunnels fascinate me. I lived in Vegas for many years, when the heavy rain comes there are flash floods. Those tunnel people are brave!!

Excellent theory about the tunnel dwelling. I do believe many are drug addicts.

Audreys eyes are listed as hazel so I would take that as no it couldnt be her.

My eyes are hazel and about half the people who mention them call them blue. I think those two colors are often close enough that I wouldn't count it out.
I would divide eye color by brown and not brown, since green, blue, gray and hazel can vary by light and the opinion of the person describing them. I have been told three times this week that my eyes are unusually green and they have never been green by any stretch.

I agree. I have hazel eyes that depending on what I wear, how I wear my hair, the color of my hair, the light.. etc. sometimes when I cry they look blue but they are mostly blue/green with a gold ring around the pupil making them hazel according to the dmv person lol.

ETA: I was looking at her clothing again, have you noticed that her clothes matched. That seems odd to me for some reason if she is homeless or a transient.

To me her clothes look like a set of clothes a low income earner who isn't actually destitute might keep for doing yardwork or housework or working at any messy task that doesn't require a standard of dress. Maybe even the sort of clothes a cleaner might wear if their employer doesn't care about their clothing.

Her shirt looks sun bleached to me, like shes been outdoors too long.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and sorry I keep Posting but to drive from Las Vegas Nevada to Milford Utah is about 3-4 hours. So how is it, a train with no stops and not so much traffic takes six hours and 45 minutes to get there? Am I missing something?

Or she's left it on the clothesline too long in summer. Or she's washed it with items that have bleach on them.

Freight trains don't have to stop often but when they do have to start, stop or change speed, it is a slow process. Also, for a lot of areas of track (curves, slopes etc) the top speed they are allowed is going to be less than for a commuter train... all that heaviness and length makes for more risk of derailment or the tracks buckling.

I think her clothes are typical of what someone on the younger end of that age range would wear, assuming they have a low budget and aren't concerned with fashion. Everyone wears yoga pants these days. The shirt is interesting, though. It suggests a particular demographic (young, SoCal, surfing, skating). She may have borrowed it from a male friend, but it still suggests that association, IMO.

My husband works at a rail yard and I asked him some questions about this case. He says security is very tight at the actual rail yard (we live near ATL), and it is more likely that she got on while the train was passing under a bridge. He also said tanker cars are never loaded at the rail yard, but at the facility where the item is made or stored. He says those facilities would not be as secure as the normal rail yard where they "build" the trains.

Since they have a giant tower at most rail yards, I asked him if the person in the tower might have noticed if she was already on top of the tanker when it got to the rail yard in LV. He said probably not, because the tower person is usually pretty busy and just checking train traffic on the tracks in the area.

So she could have been up there before or after LV, but probably did not get on at the LV rail yard.

I was initially excited when I found this article because it references the extreme lack of good security at the LV Union Pacific rail yard. However, it's from 2008 and refers (I think) to the old downtown rail yard, which has since been eliminated. I would guess that security at the current UP yard is much better.

Looking at the projected speeds for this route, I saw that the train only goes about 20 mph through much of LV until it really gets out into the desert, so I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to hop on during that time. The question remains: why?

I think the answer to "why" will probably show up in the tox report.

The interesting thing about her outfit is no underwear, no bra, no coat and no shoes. Even if she got on in California, it would've been sweatshirt/jacket and shoe weather. No bra really leads me to believe she was homeless. I hate wearing a bra but I won't go out without one. Although, she may have had a very small bust and didn't look like she was without a bra. The shorts aren't underwear, they are those cotton fold over shorts. I always see them at Kohl's in the juniors section.

Here is a link to similar shorts http://m.kohls.com/kohlsopenapi/productmobile.html?productID=1318379

I'm looking forward to the response on her feet and the tox report. Misadventure or OD are the top two scenarios in my mind.

This case is really starting to remind me of the Elisa Lam case. She was found dead in a water tank on top of the Cecil Hotel in LA. There were all these theories about it (most people thought she was murdered) but the tox screen came back clean and her death was ruled an accident (misadventure). Apparently she was in a manic state and went into the tank by choice. I think we're looking at something similar here.
