RIP Derrik. I loved his photo in the first post. He looked like a person with a big heart. So sorry for his little girls. What a tremendous loss for them!

Body believed to be missing hiker recovered in American Fork Canyon

A helicopter crew with the Utah Department of Public Safety discovered the body about 1 p.m. Saturday on a steep snowy slope at an elevation of about 9,800 feet in the Box Elder Peak area of American Fork Canyon. Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said “the body had sustained significant injuries likely incurred as the result of a fall.” The Sheriff’s Office has not officially confirmed the body is Jenkins, but evidence on the body points to Jenkins.

“It sucks,” Davis said. “You’re happy we found him, but it sucks. If we didn’t find him today, it would’ve likely been spring.”
