Oct. 12, 1973 - Pocatello and northern Utah
In 1968, Douglas Brick graduated from Pocatello High School as a top scholar student. Brick was a National Merit Letter of Commendation winner, a member of the Boys Council, Key Club, and German Club. He was also a delegate to Boys' State.
Brick had plans for college in Utah. After high school graduation, Brick met up with an old friend in Pocatello while driving truck on an Ogden to Pocatello route. He admitted he'd dropped out of college and wanted to start a new life. He didn't want others to know about his job.
Brick disappeared afterwards, not showing up to work and leaving his belongings behind in Utah.
Brick was the son of Harold and Donna Halliwell Brick. His father Harold died in 1964. His mother has also passed. Several memories of Brick have been shared with me by those who knew him in Pocatello.
Did Douglas Brick travel to South America as he once dreamed? Or did something happen to him, and he's one of our nation's unidentified John Doe cases?
He was never reported to authorities in any state. Brick would be about 71 now if alive.
His family never knew for sure. A memorial service was held on Oct. 18, 1990 in Pocatello for Brick. His mother died without knowing if her son was alive or deceased.
What really happened to Douglas Brick of Pocatello?

In reading the comments, on the FB post, it looks like he disappeared before the October 73 date. Graduated in 1968. College fell through. Would have been drafted in 1970 based on birthdate of 10/18 and a 5. Appears there are no records of him being drafted?

He definitely could have hitchhiked through Texas...any DNA to match? I don't think he's on the rule outs

<<“There was a lot of things going on,” Brick said. “He had some girlfriend, and he broke up with the girlfriend. We really don’t know why he just took off and disappeared.”>>

<<The website posted that Doug Brick was driving a truck that took him on a route between Ogden and Idaho.

“No, no, there’s nothing that, no, I don’t think so,” said the brother. “The only thing that I found as strange was my mother claimed she went down to clean his room. She found an empty box of bullets.”>>

<<Inside the car were found Douglas' belongings, neatly packed as if he were planning to leave.

While investigating Douglas' disappearance, it was learned that he had dropped many of his classes and closed out his savings and checking accounts. It was also learned that he had bought a gun and 500 rounds of .22 ammunition shortly before he disappeared. While searching his dorm room, one box of shells was missing.>>

I wonder if his profile being down has to do with the remains found in March in West Valley City, Utah? According to Google the distance between West Valley City and University of Utah Campus in 16,8 miles.

A skull and other bones were discovered by a fisherman in a pond near an office complex and golf course March 25, and are being examined by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
[...]
All waited for news that abruptly arrived Friday afternoon when a family member of one of the missing people said a medical examiner’s office contacted her to say they were putting out a news release declaring the bones as male, according to Marilyn Stevenson, whose son Justin Hooiman, disappeared in Salt Lake City in November 2017.

Oh, I really hope there will be an update in this case. We don't need to know personal details, but I just wonder where this young man ended up, decades ago.

I'll be surprised if he's the discovery from March, though. Justin H. does sound more likely, IMO. My heart goes out to the families waiting to hear.

I agree, JH would make more sense. Wouldn't it be something if DHB's been found alive, like the lady who went missing in the 60s and was recently located? 🤞

That would be incredible.

(And the lady's case was very interesting. It's nice that she gave permission for that information to be released.)

The University of Utah Police announced that they have solved a missing person case that started more than 50 years ago.

Douglas Brick, a University of Utah student, left his dorm on October 12, 1973, and was never seen again. Douglas Brick’s family never stopped looking for him.
[...]
In October 2024, hunters found two fragments of a human skull roughly six miles above the white U painted on the hill, near the summit of Black Mountain. University police were permitted to send the bone to an out-of-state lab to see if it was Douglas Brick.

After five months, the University of Utah student who had been missing for more than 50 years was no longer missing. The lab confirmed that the DNA evidence matched 99.9%.

Were the remains that he matched to also in NamUs?
I think this might me him:

I couldn’t find an exact day of the discovery of Douglas yet, just that it was “almost to the day”. UP133558 was discovered on October 15, just 3 days after the anniversary of Douglas’s disappearance. The map is inaccurate, it goes to University Bldv in the city, though in the circumstances it says that it was discovered in rural Salt Lake, in the mountains, by hikers, just like Douglas was.

ETA: According to ksltv he was indeed found on October 15. This article links to another article about the discovery:
