Nagging thought…the farm and the seeding process were extremely important to Dylan…what if the seed was in fact ruined by the rain before he could get it under shelter ..could that type of enormous setback have been enough to cause Dylan to have a mental breakdown?? seed and fertilizer are extremely expensive and difficult to lay hands on this season…could such a thing have tipped the scales of good judgement.

He seems like such a hardworking, honest, honorable young man.

Could there have been an accident? Involving the barefoot guy and his first instinct was to cover it up. Washed his truck, but his conscience wouldn't let go? Left his boots, his life behind, I walked away from it all? Until somewhere where he didn't walk farther...

Because why wash the truck? Who else would wash it and return it?

The boots just seem so symbolic somehow.

I hope I'm entirely wrong, and he's found soon. Safe.

Interesting point. I know the grain truck was discovered parked in the covered shed, and pulled out to make sure Dylan wasn't in the bed by accident, etc...but never read any reports on the condition of the seeds; ie. had they gotten wet, or were they still "plantable."

Update from Dylan's mom in the FB group regarding the search tomorrow.

"Search Update:
Elko County Sheriffs Office will be assisting us in our search tomorrow. When we meet in the morning we will have assistance in organizing coordinates for people to search to help us make we cover all the ground. We are asking everyone to download the Caltopo app on your phones, this will show us the exact areas everyone has covered and can be sent straight to the Sheriff's to analyze. This is of utmost importance in helping us to bring Dylan home. The official meeting time is 8 AM Mountain time, 7 AM Pacific time at Centennial Park in Montello, NV. There will be food and refreshments available when searchers come back in."

I asked my husband for an educated guess and he thought it looked like a fuel tank. He might be wrong though. I do hope someone checks inside that tank while they're searching.

Kind of like these:

Now I'm not going to be able to stop thinking about that tank.....

I think someone local or someone who knew Dylan is likely...but since no known money was taken I'm not sure about cash for drugs imo. If indeed the person/s responsible power-washed the truck, hid Dylan's body, etc...they had some sort of an elaborate plan.
And I think only someone known to Dylan would bother to clean and cover their tracks. Jmo.

I just feel like all of the possible 'foul play' scenarios have glaring problems. That's not to say foul play isn't a possibility, and I'm certainly not discounting it as a possibility, but I am leaning more towards self-harm (his pistol is missing; he is in the typical age range for a mental break/some sort of episode) or voluntary disappearance. MOO.

Sad but true, especially after an evening of drinking.

I don't think he was drinking though. He was known to go there to eat meals, not drink. He is only 19 so he is not going to be served in the bar anyway and I believe he is of Mormon faith, so probably wasn't drinking. JMO

BBM

This might be a silly question, but was the dirt pile searched?
What a great question. I love Websleuths. I never think of these things.

Hoping for the best for Dylan

I disagree with this being an isolated lifestyle for so long. To be clear, DR has never lived in Lucin all year long. Earlier posts of DR dropping out of school at 16, and being married to the property ever since were pure speculation without any basis.

DR reportedly only spent summer to the end of the growing season in Lucin and he would return to Idaho where he lived with both parents but primarily with his dad who also farmed. Please reference CC's recent video interviews with YT creator and East Idaho News.
Yes, ok, but also look at what the aunt said.

I agree, a total stranger probably wouldn't have returned to the property and power washed the truck and locked it.

It could have been Dylan himself---but as OldCop pointed out, he wouldn't have done so if rain was expected.

The only way he would have done so is if maybe he was leaving voluntarily, to run away or self harm---HOWEVER, it doesn't make sense, in that he had just then finished the first huge job of getting ready to finally plant the crops, and did so much hard work to get to that point----why would he give up so suddenly?

And he seems so close to his family. Hard for me to believe he just ran off with no warning or explanation.

I know he is the age that some young men have mental breaks---as my own younger brother did , sadly----but we saw some big clues that my brother was beginning to have issues, before he had his breakdown and diagnosis. I don't think anyone has said DR was acting strangely before hand.

Just tossing this into the mix:

Dylan is a young man and no doubt walking the five or six miles was easy for him.

I wonder how many people would recognize him along the way and offer him a friendly lift?

It may be a standard practice among local farmers and their friends.

Could he have been secretly seeing someone, whom he was hiding from his family and friends?

I am somewhat familiar with the Nevada high desert area, as my parents retired to a cabin outside of Reno, about 30 years ago. Whenever he drove up to see them, we would take little side trips around the Nevada high desert area, for fun and adventure.

My parents lived in a more mountainous area, near a lake, so it wasn't that similar to this ghost town remote area. But one thing I learned, when my parents were building their cabin, was there were a lot of squabbles among locals about WATER rights, in Nevada area.

Water is more valuable than gold in the desert. Especially among farmers. Were any of his neighbours concerned about his irrigation system? Was it impinging upon any one else's water supply?

HI, it was the aunt who put out the info, on the family page, no girlfriends nada, that was valid info at that moment. Did that change?

Who is YT creator?

I wonder if he told his mom he didn't give the stranger a ride because he didn't want to worry her or disappoint her?
That's exactly what she said in the interview too - which made me immediately think, what else didn't he tell her?

Some other tidbits from the same interview - Dylan only lived out there spring/summer/plant/harvest seasons. He spent winters in Idaho. She doesn't think he has a girlfriend, but maybe he talks to girls (he didn't talk to her about that).

Is Dylan an only child? I've wondered but never seen it mentioned.

If you look at the picture with the grain truck in it, there is a cover over the bed with the grain in it. Unless they were expecting a downpour I don't think it was super urgent to move it into the shed. ^^bbm

Reportedly, there was heavy rain by Saturday afternoon and steady rain all day Sunday. Definitely, sufficient rain to ruin uncovered seed. (For the rainfall, please reference YT videos with CC posted up-thread).

^^bbm

Unlike an individual with no farm experience, who's probably romanticized the idea of owning a farm and had no realistic budget for the craft, I believe mental breakdown or fatigue is more probable in this instance than an individual with DR's profile.

In DR, we have a kid that's known farming his entire life, comes from generations of farmers, and has already experienced the perils of what typically comes with [wheat] farming (i.e., drought, armyworm, infestations, etc.), long before he had his own farm.

No, I don't see the pressures suggested by OP necessarily comparable or applicable to the later candidate where the occassional ruined seed isn't really a question of how could this happen to me, I'm ruined, humiliated, can't take it, etc., but more a question of when will it happen?

I think if DR somehow staged his disappearance, and planted his boots in a manner where they would be discovered, after being sure to tell several family members of the encounter with the barefoot stranger (that may not have been a stranger), then I don't think his intentional, choice to farm the cause of his mental breakdown but a cause that's much deeper.

Interesting point. I know the grain truck was discovered parked in the covered shed, and pulled out to make sure Dylan wasn't in the bed by accident, etc...but never read any reports on the condition of the seeds; ie. had they gotten wet, or were they still "plantable." ^^bbm

DR was allegedly growing wheat, where timing is of the essence. The importance of keeping the seed dry is to prevent it from germinating!

For successful germination, seeds need to be dry, and protected in the ground, allowing the plumule to grow safely into shoots. And there's zero value in planting wet seeds to rot in the ground.

Currently, the prices for commodities of corn and wheat are the highest in a decade, I see only an optimistic future for grain producers. MOO

ETA: I'm in no way implying or suggesting DR growing anything illegal. I'm alleging wheat only because I can't immediately link the source.

I'm not sure of the reference to the aunt's comments on the Official page but if OP referring to my statement of being "married to the land," I didn't mean it to imply forgoing matrimony or relationships but married as in linked, attached, closely connected.

I've posted a couple of videos with DR's mother up-thread, with permission, by two otherwise non-approved youtube creators. I don't follow either of them, and sorry I can't identify them by memory. Let me see if I can find their links. :)
