I know the PI ended up being rude and crazy. But could he have stumbled into some valid information in spite of that?
I dunno -- he sure seems over the top to me beginning with his allegation that one dude is a registered sex offender. A credible PI should know how to check the registry (in all states for that matter) and cite the category/level of the offender, etc. Instead, if he thinks it, it must be true.
Given both parents and the PI have publically named the individual and his brother, it's all public information. Probably not too difficult to call out the PI's allegation a porky or embellished hearsay.
However, I do agree it is likely that there could be a landowner watch group of sorts where the land owners might patrol a designated border to their property at night against the growing number of squatters the owners find threatening. Farm equipment is expensive as is sabotage to their operations. If nothing else, it would certainly help pass an evening in that desolate, unpopulated area!
I'm also curious if the squatters, anti-govt, preppers, and bunch, help sustain the local area businesses or if they stay far away and out of sight? JMO
ETA: All States have their own rules for sexual offender registries and where to access them. For example, WA does not list Level 1 but you can contact the Sheriff's office for confirmation.
Per RCW 4.24. 550, Washington state only publishes
Level II, III and non-compliant or transient Level I offenders. If you are looking for information on a specific offender not published on the website, you can contact your local Sheriff's office. They can provide you with information on specific Level I offenders.
