Former therapist David Hamblin, 68, was previously charged with 18 counts of sexual assault. He was taken into custody Wednesday morning and booked on the following:

• 3 counts of sodomy on a child
• Rape of a child
• 2 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child
• Lewdness involving a child

Hamblin's case may open up a bigger investigation than some want. This is so disturbing— disturbing that it happened and disturbing that these children were not believed so many years ago. It could end up being more than disturbing but a criminal coverup. If the investigation reveals that, may those involved in releasing this man be judged to the full extent of the law.

The day after the sheriff's office released its statement, Utah County Attorney David Leavitt held a press conference claiming he was connected to the investigation because of criminal allegations made against him during an investigation into Hamblin a decade earlier. He called the claims false and angrily accused Sheriff Mike Smith — who has long been at odds with Leavitt — of having political motivations for the timing of the release."

The officer’s statement requests that Hamblin “be held without bail on these egregious crimes against a child. There are ongoing investigations regarding other victims with David as a perpetrator.”

A judge granted the no-bail request. Hamblin is being held in the Utah County Correctional Facility.

The UCSO affidavit also notes that Hamblin “was a licensed therapist whose license was revoked by the State of Utah due to allegations that he was sexually abusing his client(s).

“Through this investigation, it has been reported that David continues to perform ‘therapy’ under the guise of ‘healing circles’ and upon information and belief, the abuse may be ongoing. David Hamblin is a threat to the children and citizens of Utah County.”

The victim told police that the first assault she could remember occurred when she and two other children were in the basement of Hamblin’s home, documents say.

“The victim described a sexual assault where she and two other children were forced to stand in front of David Hamblin while he directed them to take turns, ‘sucking on his penis,'” the affidavit states. “David forced each child to take turns giving him oral sex while he critiqued and criticized their abilities and efficacy of what they were commanded to do. The victim described the shame that she felt and her confusion at the time of the sexual assault.”

Investigators said they interviewed the two other children present during the alleged assault and said that both “corroborated what the victim has disclosed.”

I hope all the mudslinging surrounding this case/investigation doesn't stand in the way of justice being served against anyone who is guilty of sexual abuse against children. I'm worried defense lawyers will have a field day establishing reasonable doubt in the minds of jurors by impeaching the testimony and/or actions of investigators and others who are currently or previously associated with this case, including fugitive/accused rapist/con artist Nicholas Rossi aka Nicholas Alaverdian (WS thread linked below).

In this article, Sherriff Smith says that more than one victim has come forward. The sheriff said the first victim spoke to them back in April of 2021 and was not the person Leavitt referred to as mentally ill.

This case is one of the reasons why David Leavitt was recently voted out of office! I am so thankful that he is no longer in office. There are other reasons why which point to him using his office to dismiss cases of people that donated to his campaign or were personal friends. IMVHO, David Leavitt is extremely unethical - and that is just the nicest adjective I can say about him!

MANTI, Utah (ABC4) — "The Sixth Judicial District Court in Manti approved release on bail for a Provo man accused of sexually abusing multiple children over the course of 30 years."

"Hamblin was given a pretrial protected order, which prohibits any direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim. He is also required to wear a GPS ankle monitor, prohibiting Defendant from contact with children, and requiring him to surrender his passport to the defense counsel."
