PARK CITY, Utah (KUTV) — Kouri Richins, who is accused of murdering her husband by lacing his drink with a fentanyl dose that would have killed five people, made her second appearance in Utah's Third District Court on Thursday.

[...] She entered the courtroom in a lilac-colored sweater and appeared to be crying throughout the proceedings, which were very brief as her lawyer and the prosecutor explained to the judge the amount of work ahead of them as they worked to sort through paperwork involved in the case.

[...] He decided there would be another scheduling conference on Sept. 1 at 1:30 p.m. The hope is a preliminary hearing date will be decided then.

[...] There is a possibility prosecutors may file additional charges in the case.

A brief hearing today.

Around timestamp 9:30: Judge wanted to set a preliminary hearing within 60 days related to the current charges and amended information. Keep in mind that defense asked for 60 days. Possible that the state may add more charges. Judge said he felt some compulsion to keep it moving as fast as possible given that Ms. Richins is in custody and just because we have the prelim doesn’t mean trial occurs thereafter - I imagine the investigation continues and trial preparation will continue. No objections and next hearing scheduled Sept 1 @1:30 pm MT.

Kouri Richins was visibly upset in court today. At times, she appeared to be crying. It was a relatively short scheduling conference. This is the first time we’ve seen her since the last hearing, where Judge Mrazik determined she would be held in jail without bond.

Murder charges, a high-stakes trial, prison life -- this is NOT what she signed up for when she slipped all that poison into her husband's drink.

The life of having plenty of money to pay all her debts, and live happily every after - what happened to THAT option? How could anyone want to look closely at the circumstances of a rich widow whose husband died unexpectedly?

Unrelated to the case, but I’m perplexed with her attorney’s choice of yellow shoes with a lavender blouse and black skirt. Or perhaps it’s my video settings.

Kouri looks a bit downtrodden. I guess in her months of googling fancy prisons for the rich, etc she didn’t expect to serve any time in county jail.

Agree, an unusual color combination for courtroom attire. Imo

Who is the lady chewing gum sitting in what appears to be the second row?

Must be your video.

Eye-catching blue blouse, dark blue pencil skirt. Rich colors. The lemon shoes with sky-scraper heels are current and confident. Daring. Cleopatra earrings. Diva. Why be timid? She struts.

The whole look designed—from pencil skirt to eye-catching shoes—to make her a couple feet taller than the prosecutor. And then there's the prosecutor's unremarkable styling... The shoes, the shoes, the shoes....

All theater IMO. Fab.

I wonder if KR is thrilled to be upstaged? Hence the tears?

At the beginning of the hearing, the defense attorneys are whispering about “it’s her fault”. Any guesses what they’re referring to?

Thank you! Your colors make sense. Sounds very daring and bold! She’s definitely a show stopper. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Seemed to be the hot microphone

I missed any whispering comment and will need to go back and take a listen. Visibly noticeable was KR crying her eyes (for self) out while her defense attorney dazzles (as a professional) in a pin stripe pencil skirt. Moo

I personally think KR is so upset because she knows she will be locked up for at least 60 more days. I also am speculating that defense may have had a conversation with her about the evidence against her. I bet it is not all roses in their meetings.

Prolly felt like writing a check for more fentanyl.

I can actually envision her doing something, idk, like maybe putting salt in her eyes?
Please excuse my cynicism, but as they say…. Drastic times call for drastic measures. JMO

Thanks. I recall a temporary Guardianship in UT can't exceed 6 months so I guess they will keep renewing for as long as the trial date is pending. I don't think they can go for permanent Guardianship until she's convicted.

Also, I think "unnamed relative" is code speak for there's a fight going on for the children. No doubt Kouri wants her mother to be the Guardian and sponge off the Trust (translates to I will use my own mother to keep me in money). JMO

ETA: Similar situation happening in CA with Milette children, and court won't make a permanent guardian decision until after the trial.
Bbm.
Disgusting. It sounds like something Kouri would do.
Schemes within schemes.
Greed destroys lives and it (allegedly) cost Eric his life.
Even if Eric put aside generous funds for the boys, if Kouri and co. are granted full custody of the children , it could very well be gone by the time they're of age.
Sad because Eric's family may not be able to protect the boy's interests.
Imo.

There is still the option to appeal for bail. Not sure if defense will file the appeal. My guess is they (defense) have a due date of until July 12 to file the appeal. MOO

Kouri Richins could still appeal for bail, though she only has a 30-day window to file the appeal.
