SALT LAKE CITY -- Police in Salt Lake City said two people are dead and six others wounded after a shooting outside a funeral on Wednesday evening.

No suspects are in custody and an active manhunt is underway, Salt Lake City Police Department public information officer Glen Mills said.

Police received a call for the shooting shortly after 7:30 p.m. local time at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on Redwood Road.

Apparently, they think that this involves a Tongan gang. Drive by shooting at the church after a funeral service.

Crazy. This is not a great area of SLC to live, northwest area. I used to live in SLC, we lived in Holladay, on the southeast side of SLC.

Still, it is unfortunate. Not the SLC I grew up in...

The situation still is very fluid. At this point, we know that there are at least eight victims, I can confirm that two of them have died; three of them are critical condition, and three others (are) in unknown condition," said Salt Lake police spokesman Glen Mills.

All of the victims are adults, Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said late Wednesday.

The shooting happened at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 660 N. Redwood Road about 7:36 p.m. When police and firefighters arrived, the suspect or suspects had fled, Mills said. The suspect vehicle, described only as a gray or silver car, was last seen going north on Redwood Road.
