Circumstances of Recovery: On September 20 1951 a man riding on top of a freight train fell between the cars when the train reduced speed on a spur track near the station in the town of Roy. Utah. The man was run over by the following 28 freight cars. No wallet or papers were found. The unidentified man was described as a white/Caucasian man, between 50 and 55 years old. He stood about 58", weighed about 160 pounds, and had dark graying hair. He wore a blue pin-striped suit.

This man. I know zero about riding the trains, but with what I've read on other cases where a fatality occurred, what hits me is he is wearing a pin-stripe suit.

Was he having a last hurrah, going out in style, wearing his sunday suit?
Or was this completely accidental and he was going some place specific, possibly even very close to where he died?

September 20 was a Thursday. My thoughts are that he was going some place specific (maybe even to Roy, or destination of Salt Lake) for the weekend, a special visit perhaps, taking the train in. And, unless a surprise visit, someone was expecting him.

According to the article he was crushed by 28 freight cars. Hard to imagine that much would have been recovered at all, much less papers or a wallet - maybe even a watch, some other pocket items - he might have had on his person.

No idea what may be available in terms of identification, this is a very old case. If someone else does, please post.

I haven't found any articles that say anything other than what's in the Namus article but will keep looking around.

I'd assume this was an accident. Train hoppers accidentally getting crushed while trying to get off because they think the train is stopping when it's really just temporarily slowing down was (and still is) pretty common. You lose your footing and the train just keeps going (even if the crew at the front in the locomotive or at the back in the caboose had noticed, they physically couldn't stop even if they tried).
