UT - Sierra Newbold, 6, abducted & murdered, West Jordan, 26 June 2012 *Arrest*

He needs to get the death penalty! There is a special place in hell that is just waiting for this guy. I also want to know where this guy was back in December of 1996.

Usually, sexual predators become more bold as time goes by. That wouldn't fit him killing JonBenet in her own home while her family slept, to 16 years later, killing Sierra outside of her house. Also, how would he know about John's 118k bonus? He lived in Utah.

Did this monster live with his wife and child? Had he been home since he murdered Sierra? Or was he on the run so to speak like someone else suggested?

So he has been locked up since the 29th while they were waiting for the DNA/forensic test results?

It just makes me sick that someone can walk into someone's house in the middle of the night and take their child and do these horrific things. I make sure all of my windows are locked at night and I have been looking under beds before we go to sleep because a psycho creep like this could even come in during the day while windows are open (summer) and hide and wait.

I think I am going to look into window alarms or something. I don't want anything that would pose a fire hazard. This is sickening.

Do these home surveillance systems have audio usually? I guess we also need to teach our kids to kick and scream and fight back. How come no one heard them? I just wish this could have been prevented. That poor family.

well this pretty much summed it up and a bit prophetic of what was to be discovered. Good post OBE and on the mark.

Bless this little girl.

Thank you JBean.

Sometimes I think my sixth sense concerning cases like this is a curse.

I knew this was the way this was going to end.

8 MINUTES! It took JUST 8 MINUTES to kidnap Sierra. She was most likely dead within an hour after being kidnapped or even less.

I certainly hope UT makes this a death penalty case.

It sounds like to me when he took Sierra from her home in the middle of the night she was still asleep. Little children like Sierra are use to their parents carrying them from place to place when they are asleep and children her age sleep soundly.

We ask the same questions over and over when pedophiles kidnap children from their own bedroom. No, no one hears a thing not even those who had dogs in their homes.

But then we know of cat burglars that can invade a home at night and none of the home dwellers even knew they were there.

IMO, it is not as hard to invade and kidnap a child as we would really like to think it is.

This 🤬🤬🤬 was going to rob the bank of $100?????????

This woman was incredibly brave, but could have been dead from her bravery. Wow!

Can you imagine if they let him bath without realizing who he might be? They wouldn't have that crutial evidence found on his man parts. I completely commend D. Bigelow!!! Without him.... I know that catching this creep was a team effort, but this detective deserves the attaboy!!

Wow! Not sure about divine intervention but that is a pretty amazing coincidence along with fantastic work by LE. $100? WTF?

I used to work at a WF bank and have been robbed several times. I have never heard of a robber only getting $100. That has to be a mistake! JMO

I don't think she was talking about JBR's murder. She was talking about a cold case from Utah with the exact same MO. [ Rosie Tapia?]

Here is the link to the probable cause affidavit.

She shared a room with her sister who was in the room when Sierra was abducted.
Thanks for posting. Nightmare for that baby. Not sure I want to know anymore detail than that.

I went to the closing arguments for the trial of Alejandro Avila, the murderer of 5yo Samantha Runnion some years back.

Oh
my
God
I was not prepared for the information the DA revealed about what he did of a sexually abusive nature to that angel before he murdered her. The information had not been released to the public until that moment and it was overwhelming. They did not let us see the pictures-they were only revealed to the jury- and the jury was certainly moved by what he did to her.

Special place for these people somewhere south of here.

That's the one we discussed the day that this punkin was found :(

Wonder how long this man has lived in the area back then. It was very similar to that case if I recall.

But she said December 1996. Rosie was killed in August 1995.

O/T: Another tragedy that happened here in Utah a couple of years ago drags on in the courts.

Nathan Sloop pleads NOT guilty?!!! Son-of-a-$%&^*@#

His face makes me sick to my stomach.

There have been a handful here that have really gotten to me: Elizabeth Smart, obviously; Susan Powell, obviously; and this poor, little Sierra. The other two have been Ethan Stacy (that poor boy - and his poor father), and Kristy Ragsdale. For one reason or another - because of the notoriety, or just demographics of the victim - these are the ones I always think about.

Fortunately, we've seen justice on two of these. We should still see justice on two. On the last one, justice is impossible. That one (Susan) will haunt many of us for the rest of our lives. Maybe they'll someday find her body, so the family can at least have closure. Justice, on the other hand - that will have to come from a higher power.

Given that little Sierra's body was found in a 1/2 hour of the 911 call, we were told she was sexually assaulted and the family had video cameras, it certainly made sense to assume this was a sexual predictor, who wasn't close enough to the family to know that there were cameras. Because this case had all the appearances of a stranger, imagine how difficult it would be to solve yet, LE did it in an amazingly short period of time! GREAT WORK!

Well hi there!

I felt it would be quick but this is the first time we have learned just how little time it takes a predator to kidnap a child from their own bedroom. Mind boggling and quite chilling when thinking about it.

This case is a perfect example of why the public should demand every arrestee gives a compulsory DNA test...not that HIS DNA caught him (that we know of) but he would have left some trace in Sierra's house, or body, that would have caught him IMMEDIATELY as he already had a record.

Could also work as a deterrent as well...offenders will think twice if they know their DNA is already on record.

My heart is aching for Sierra's sister, who was sharing their bedroom. This has to be a devastating, impossible situation for her to be going through. Poor baby. I hope she is receiving a lot of counseling and support now. She is in my prayers. :rose:
