Missing St. George woman was killed, investigators say

The case of a missing St. George woman who was found dead last weekend in a remote area of southern Utah is now being investigated as a homicide.

On Aug. 23, police received a call that a body had been located in western Iron County. Investigators determined the woman’s body “had been in the area for some time.”

After being transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office, the woman was identified as Stevie Shay Wilkerson, 26. She had been missing from St. George since Aug. 9.

Wilkerson had last been seen leaving the Claridge Inn, 1187 S. Bluff.

In her last Facebook post on June 26th, Wilkerson asked for help finding an apartment to rent with her boyfriend and dog, Niko.

Wilkerson’s cause of death has not been released.

An Aug. 10 Facebook post from Vawna Wilkerson said she believed her daughter had been abducted and taken hostage by a man and woman “she accidentally crossed paths with” at a St. George motel.

“Please help me find my beautiful baby girl. They are armed and have threatened to kill her, the post says.

Mom Says Slain Utah Woman Was Abducted by Couple 'She Accidentally Crossed Paths With'
''Wilkerson was last seen leaving a motel in St. George on Aug. 9. The following day, her mother, Vawna Wilkerson, took to social media to plead for help, saying her daughter had been "taken against her own will" and was "being held hostage" by a couple she "accidentally crossed paths with" at the Red Roof Inn in St. George.''

The taken against her will story doesn't feel right to me.

Do we know what she was doing at the Red Roof Inn?

If she was kidnapped by a couple she met there, might their identity be in in the hotel registry?

To be fair, in her last Facebook post she was looking for an apartment to rent with her BF and dog.
So a scenario is: Someone responded, asked to meet SSW (possibly at a time when her BF could not join) and "took her against her will".

If it was planned, it's highly unlikely someone would use their real name IMO. If it was an accident, then maybe.
