I wish we knew where Josh was on Sunday...one article said that Kiirsi, Susan & the boys walked home from church on Sunday around noon....what was Josh doing that he didn't know it was Sunday when the rest of the family went to church? Why did they all walk in the cold -- did he have the van?

From the maps I found, it's about 2-4 miles to a Church of LDS.

Walking directions to 5000 Janette Avenue, West Valley, UT 84120
2.0 mi – about 37 mins

Walking directions to 3900 South 4000 West, West Valley, UT 84120-4038
3.1 mi – about 58 mins

Walking directions to 4460 Cortney Drive, West Valley, UT 84120
4 miles

thank Amanda...I have it -- that's how I was able to determine how many miles from their home to church.

Why didn't he go to church? with his family?
What was he doing??? hmmmmmm

Just a few things I want to comment on....

Yes Mormons celebrate Christmas… and Easter!
Some may confuse us with other churches that have branched off the
LDS church but we are Christians!
We do decorate for Holidays. I don’t believe I saw any Christmas
lights on their house but keep in mind a lot of people have not put
them up this year because it is sooooo cold!

I don’t believe Josh was going to start a new job. I think he already had a
job.

I believe they had “friends” over for dinner not just one friend.

I believe the last time Susan was seen (other than from what Josh says)
was 5:30 pm when the friends left after dinner.

I believe that a neighbor saw Josh come home at 8:30 pm Sunday.

I believe that Josh said he went “camping” at 12:30 am (late Sunday early Monday morning.)

IF what Susan’s friend says it true and she talked to Josh at 3pm on Monday
and it took him 2 hours to get home that would make him home about 5 pm
on Monday.

Going by Josh’s time frame *Monday 12:30 am until Monday 5 pm that gives
him what…. 17 ½ hours! *IF we take out “Josh’s time line
then the last time he was seen was 8:30 pm and that would have given him
4 hours more!

He could have easily gone 8 hours in either direction! North our South! That
is a lot of land to cover! And many places that he could have just dumped her body!

Two things I am praying for….
1. That he confesses like Mark Hacking!
2. That he had his cell phone turned on and they can ping it!

Otherwise I fear without her body he may just get away with this!

Do we have any locals here?
Any new news?
HLN not saying anything that we don't already know.

If they had any pets, was there extra water and food left for them?
Like he knew he would be gone for atleast Sun/Mon?

Thanks Harleysnana

You answered many questions for me!

After watching videos of this guy, its not hard to see why he wasn't successful in real estate. The charm of a 'people person' is missing completely and he appears, to me anyway, to be a hollow shell of a person. All the lights are on and no one is home. I'm wondering if the personality that he is showing is partially due to the fact that he knows what he has done.

I was going to post that he didn't seem to possess the arrogance of Scott or Drew Peterson, but I changed my mind. He certainly does. Who in their right mind would think that taking two young children camping at 12:30 in the morning, in a snow storm,
no less. would make any sense. Who in their right mind would not be speaking with their missing wifes parents on a daily, if not more frequent, basis. Does anyone know what his explanation is/was for missing his third interview with police? I'm sure there isn't anything reasonable he could say, but I have to ask.

I'd like to hear what their dinner guest has to say because if this guy was putting a plan into motion there will be little indications that something wasn't right.

This case will break soon, even without Susan surfacing. I'd be surprised if LE isn't preparing an arrest warrant right now.

Nothing new that I have heard.

One thing I do want to add and I’m not sure how to say this and I don’t want
to stir up a religion debate!
But it seems to me that most of their LDS neighbors are in some type of
denial.
I know that being LDS murder is wrong and it goes against what the LDS
church believes.
Having said that…. I think that they feel like Josh was a good church member
and so he couldn’t have done anything to Susan.
They are still holding out hope that Susan will come home alive.
Please don’t get me wrong because I pray that will happen too!
But… what’s reality? It’s sad to say but when you turn on the news
and the police are not asking for searchers… the husband isn’t making a plea
to Susan or the person who took her… or even the friends for that matter…
it kind of says it all IMO.

On the fb that her friends have put up they will not let anyone post anything
that does not include Susan coming home alive.
They will not let anyone question Josh’s actions.

It’s just sad to see. I think we all know how this is going to turn out and I
pray that her neighbors can then embrace the fact that yes… there are evil
people in all religions and in all neighborhoods.

Sorry.. just had to rant!

It's also odd coincidence that Lori Hacking worked in Wells Fargo brokerage services.

Wow! Texas Mist. I didn't realize Lori worked at Wells Fargo as well. Oh good heavens.

Your information sent me to search out past info on Lori. It's been a while since I thought of Lori and reading about her again brought back memories of her first days missing. It's so heartbreaking. It brings tears to my eyes to this day.

I just don't know what to say. Every time a 'new case' emerges, so many of us say, 'Not again!' It's not a question, but a statement. For we know how the case will ultimately end. The script has been written over and over and over, with but personality differences, location differences or ..................the same.....................over and over and over and over.

Not again!

I most certainly hope family and friends will be able to hold together for what I fear will be a rude awakeing within the next few days in regards to Josh. My prayers are with them.

Good afternoon everyone, i have been a long time lurker, this will be my first time posting... this happened in the neighborhood I grew up in (21 years), although it is prodominately LDS, I am pretty sure membership is down in this area. My parents still live a few blocks away. the residence in which this happened is a newer addition to an older neighborhood. Local LE are very professional and will keep their cards close to their chest, IMO. Previous crimes similar in nature, have been solved very quickly in the area. I am sure an arrest is iminent. I agree alot of neighbors may be in denial, but there are many who are not. The west desert is very remote, simpson springs, were LE were searching is vast. I myself lost a pet in simpson springs. My family searched high and low for two weeks on ATV's, to no avail, she did however surface 16 days later, found by a family camping. I can honestly say the camping story is luducrios, the only camping were temps have dipped below -4 in this area (I work in the west desert, it was -11 thursday morning.), would be dedicated hunters, If you indeed were to make the decision to go camping at midnight there are plenty of places to roast smores, that are closer to WVC, many canyons, campgrounds etc.... it shouldn't be long now before we see resolution, my deepest sympathy's to the powell family, my heart is aching for those two boys...

Wonder if LE asked him to say that? I'm a 'spur of the moment' kind of person too -- but NObody that knows me would NOT say "WTH???" if they heard that I packed up 2 toddlers in the middle of the nite, drove out into a snow storm to go camping so I could test a generator & eat s'mores, and forgot to go to work - then have my DBF go missing while I'm gone....and we have not had a troubled relationship w/ me saving money to leave him by the spring if things didn't work out.

If Josh doesn't want people focusing on him, he should at least put on a better show of concern and quit his fake crying for the camera.

Oh wow...

reading about her father ?? and the "no negative" comment stuff on the facebook makes me say

de-nial ain't just a river in Eygpt

Hope for the best...but in a case like this expect the worst

Also, when I read that they were in marriage counseling I can't help but wonder if this was not Morman church counseling??

I think there was a lot of de-nial going on here...the hincty "webpage"
that doesn't say what college...the "glowing referrals"...and it turns out this
master of real estate isn't even working in that field now??

He was going to "start a new job"...?? how long was he out of his old job?
It seems like his poor wife not only "brought home the bacon but cooked it too"

I do think the LE is not saying what they are thinking/planning and looking for...hopefully they will resolve this but I don't think it will be happy

as for her father....that river is deep...de-nial....unless maybe he is just going along with the LE plan?? otherwise....that poor man....shudder

Well bless his heart. To concentrate on Josh is to admit Susan is no longer alive, and THAT is the most unbearable part. As long as she's just gone, she could still come back whole.

I doubt LE has such high hopes and know exactly what they're dealing with.
It'll all come out in the end.

Prayers for this family in their search, that they may have answers and not left with an open wound.

I wonder if it was common for him to miss church. I didn't realize church was this far away. Why would Susan and the little boys walk home from church in the cold temperatures? I don't know if the youngest was 2 or 1 the reporters can't get that fact straight, but at either age it would take a long time for a bundled up toddler to walk home that far. This is just odd.

Was it because Josh had the car making preparations for whatever happened later?
Did Susan think Josh would pick them up? How did they get to church?

Walking home at least 2 miles in freezing temperatures with 2 young children doesn't make any sense. And why wouldn't anyone offer to take them home?

What was Josh doing during that church time?
