In the moments before a 41-year-old West Valley City woman stabbed the father of her child to death in the midst of a Labor Day barbecue, witnesses said, he challenged her to do it.

The couple had been fighting for hours. In a moment of apparent rage, witnesses testified Wednesday, the woman, Thu Huong Thi Nguyen, went into the kitchen and returned with a knife.

Her boyfriend, with whom Nguyen had a small child, egged her on.

A jury has found a West Valley City woman guilty of murdering her husband, who was stabbed to death at a Labor Day barbecue...

The jury deliberated six hours before finding Nguyen guilty of murder, a first-degree felony, and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony. She will be sentenced May 4.

On Monday, Judge Randall Skanchy ordered Nguyen serve a 15-years-to-life term for the murder conviction, to run concurrently with a 1-to-15-year term for the obstruction of justice conviction.
