A body was found Tuesday in a retention pond at a potash plant near Wendover.

Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park says a man walking in the area found the body and contacted authorities.

Sheriff Park says the body has been at the Intrepid Plant area for two to five years, making it difficult to even determine if the body is that of a male or female.

They can, however, confirm the body is not that of Susan Powell, who disappeared from her West Valley Home in December of last year.

I'm hoping there was some type of identification still with this person that will give some clues on who they are.

Even tho it sounds like this can not be Susan Powell, it gives me hope that one day she also will be found. So many people are out there just waiting for someone to find them in an out of the way location.

The below article has LE stating the body will be tested to see if it was exposed to any chemicals. This is leading some to speculate that the body might not be as old as originally thought and might be Susan Powell.

I've heard that bodies skeletonize really fast out that way. Something about the salt content. Margo Bond was rumored to be fairly skeletonized after four months.

(snip)
In early 1992, Kennedy Junior High custodian Margo Bond disappeared shortly after arriving at work. Her purse, keys and car were left behind. Her body was found four months later in a shallow grave in Skull Valley on June 21, 1992.

Hey, I just remembered Josh's burned/chapped hands. Chemicals....hmmmmm.

It probably isn't Susan, at least someone will have an answer.

Still not seeing any updates in the news about this. How long does the ME take?

Not exactly an update since it was published weeks ago, but this is the first story I read where a specific missing person's name was mentioned as a possible I.D.:

http://www.coyote-tv.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2357&Itemid=269

Mireslaba Vasquez Ramirez, 29, is a local woman missing since 1998 and Tooele County LE is considering the possibility that the remains could be considerably older than the previous estimate of 2-5 years. I cannot find her listed on Charley Project or Doe Network.

ETA: I rounded up a few articles for a Porchlight thread but I can't find a photo of her.

Click HERE to read an update on the female human remains found at the potash plant, west of Wendover, Utah in June.

"Sheriff’s investigators and family members believe the sun and salt bleached bones may be all that remains of 29-year-old Miroslaba Ramirez, a mother of 3 who disappeared 12 years ago."

DNA tests are being performed.

12 years ago? How heartbreaking for her family to not know where she has been all that time. So sad.

One thought that I had after reading this news story; how sad that so many people go missing in Utah and that there is so much space to just dump a body. IF in fact this woman was there since her death 12 years ago, NO ONE saw her remains. :(

Just a few minutes ago, the Salt Lake Tribune posted an update on this case.

"Mireslaba Ramirez’s body was recovered last summer in the West Desert and DNA from her bones was compared with DNA from family members, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday."
