ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Warrants were served Monday at two locations in Alleghany County as part of the search for human remains, according to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say they were “acting on credible information provided by a confidential informant,” and served warrants July 7, 2025 on Pocahontas Avenue in the City of Covington and Brookhaven Drive in Alleghany County.
The Sheriff’s Office says the purpose of the searches was to “locate human remains or uncover evidence that may lead to the discovery of such remains.”
Investigators have not revealed whether they found what they were looking for, or the specific object of the search, saying, “At this time, no further information will be released to protect the integrity of the investigation. Updates will be provided as they become available.”
Ground-penetrating radar and cadaver detection dogs were used during the searches, according to the Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted by Covington Police, Virginia Division of Wildlife Resources, and Virginia State Police.
