VA VA - Alyssa Nicole Taylor, 25, left for a few days in a tractor trailer, Accomack Co, 13 Sept 2022

We also learn from that article Alyssa has gone with Danny previously:

In a text exchange that happened later that day, Danny McNeal asked for an address to pick up Alyssa.

“Is that where I picked you up last time?” He also asked if there was room at her house for him to turn around his truck.

“Yes,” Alyssa texted back. “It has a tractor trailer in yard.”

Rough timeline:

Alyssa sends a text to Danny asking to join him 6:35 AM

Danny let's her know he will pick her up soon/is nearby: 2pm

Exmore stop & interaction with LE who knows Danny from high school, Alyssa on camera, grainy image, but family recognizes her voice: 9pm

Alyssa calls Danny, missed call: 10:10 pm

Danny's friend Angel Stevens called Danny from her phone at 10:18 p.m. and talked with him for over two hours, phone records show. This is the call where the friend, Stevens heard an unknown woman's voice in the background. Unclear if all or part of this call? i.e. could she have been talking to Danny when his truck stopped in Emporia?

Stevens called Danny again at 1:17 a.m. That call ended at 1:30 a.m.

The crash occurred around 2:15 am

Last ping from Alyssa's phone was in Emporia.

(I'm coming back to edit add sources, let me know if we should add other info.)

so she lived w her mother, but was not trusted to stay there while mom was out of town and mom paid gma, but she subsequently argued w gma and was asked to leave. seems like she was having a rough time.

Was Emporia, Virginia a detour?

Look at the map. You would be off i-85 and on 95 to be in Emporia en route to Hillsborough and a crash on I-85. Right??

Or maybe they were on 95 previously, and cut over at that point. Just trying to think of reasons for the 2-3 minute stop.

no one yet has a bad word to say about Danny.

maybe she argued w danny and he dropped her off? but wouldnt she have taken her belongings? or maybe she was um... getting off for other reasons and he was going to retrieve her on the way back through? but wouldnt she have surfaced by now? this is so perplexing.

I'm wondering if she had met someone, and on the ride asked Danny to drop her off, and the other person(s) may not have had good intentions? Or she may have some demons we're not aware of, possibly has heard of the crash and it is too much for her?

I’m confused on the missed call from Alyssa to Danny at 10:10 PM. If she is with him in the truck, there’s no need to call him. The only reason I could think of would be if he misplaced his phone in the cab of the truck or it fell somewhere so she called it to help locate it.

Otherwise, it makes me think maybe they were stopped somewhere/separated. Did she run in to use the restroom somewhere and call him to ask if he wanted a snack or something? That could be plausible. By 8 min later, he is talking to his friend on the phone who says she hears a woman in the background. Did this friend confirm he was driving at this time (as opposed to stopped somewhere?)

It confused me too.

And this cannot be the stop in Emporia if that is about 2 hours from the crash site. That 2-3 minute stop would have occurred around midnight, roughly.

ETA: No, the friend did not clarify stopped vs driving.

One of her relatives made a point that made sense to me as possible: (paraphrasing, need to go back and find which of the two previously linked news sources it was from) but basically Alyssa could have called Danny from the truck if he ran inside a store or vice versa. I know I have done this with family and friends while in the car if I've gone in a convenience store to pay for gas, etc--"Oh hey. Can you grab me a drink while you"re in there?" or "Forgot to ask if you would like anything/Hey they have __ BOGO, would you like one?"

has it been said if the time the truck was stopped for several minutes coincides w the call?

When we think about Alyssa's belongings her family found in the truck wreckage, I think 100% the blanket is hers. I would not doubt her family at all. It is possible if Alyssa hopped out in a hurry, or was under stress, she left the blanket behind. Or if she was meeting a new guy, perhaps, did not want to bring the blanket and felt it was safe with Danny.

The size 8 flip flop though? That could belong to anyone. That is a common size, and it seems as though Danny was well-liked, and we know other women called to keep him company. I think it is not a big stretch to assume others joined him in the truck at times too.

Ok so Danny told Alyssa:

ALYSSA: “OK. What state we going to?”

DANNY: “Gotta go to Delaware pick up a trailer then straight to North Carolina. About 7 hours down.”

OK,so if I figured this out correctly, Danny was pretty much AT his destination when he crashed. SEVEN HOURS DOWN.

Unless the tractor-trailer was a fuel tanker that exploded, the heat of post-crash fire and the time it would have taken to burn out would NOT have destroyed evidence of a second body. (the driver AND his dog's remains were found). investigators will walk a grid a fair distance from a crash of that nature to check for victims/survivors. IMO, if she had been in the accident, it would have been verified at this point.
Would a fair distanced search still be protocol if the tractor-trailer driver was accounted for in what remained of the vehicle itself though? Driving a tractor-trailer is a solitary gig for the most part, hence the dog. That is not to say they don’t pick up hitchhikers and whatnot, but I just don’t know that investigators would automatically presume a tractor-trailer to have a secondary passengers without actual knowledge of such in the first place.

I put in a request to mods/admin to ask if videos recorded and posted by Alyssa’s aunt when she and other members of Alyssa’s family (including Alyssa’s mother) were onsite of the tractor-trailer wreckage and made discovery of the flip flip (and blanket) can be posted here because they would shed a lot of light on this IMO.

Family members believe Danny is Danny McNeil, who they say Taylor was friends with.

[...]

In a statement to 10 On Your Side’s sister station CBS17 in Raleigh, North Carolina State Highway Patrol said their report concluded McNeil was the sole driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident.

"The investigation indicates the driver was the sole occupant of this single vehicle collision. If you are looking for information related to a missing person story which is currently circulating online, we would direct you to the authorities in Virginia who are handling this case. We have spoken with the missing persons family and have spent much time in trying to answer questions they have related to our collision investigation. This is understandably a difficult time for the family and we will continue to assist them as needed."

[...]

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office says Taylor’s cell phone pinged along the same GPS locations as McNeil’s truck. Taylor’s phone has had no further activity since the date and time of the crash.

"... Sergeant Kugler requested cellular information on a number that was provide by the family as belonging to Alyssa. Through that information we are able to see a ping in the Accomack County area consistent with the date, time, and location where Alyssa was picked up from. We compared that information with GPS locations from the deceased males truck and show the truck pinging in the same area as Alyssa’s phone. We later found another ping from Alyssa’s cellular device about on hour from the crash location. The deceased males truck pinged in that same location as well. Alyssa’s phone has no further activity since the date and time of the crash. We have checked multiple CCTV recordings on the route that the deceased males truck traveled. Through those recordings we are only able to see the deceased male exiting and entering the truck."

From the little we know thus far, I think she was in the tractor-trailer when it crashed. I also think responding officers had no reason to believe anyone other than the driver was inside. The dog was a bonus. If the driver’s wallet/ID was recovered an officer might’ve contacted someone in his family who more than likely knew his only travel companion to be the dog and if they relayed that information to officials they would’ve had even less of a reason to collect ashes and/or perform a thorough and pointed sweep of the area for fragments of someone else’s bones or teeth.

I don’t blame them for the way they responded because how could they have known she was even a possibility that night? But to respond like this now that they do know about her and the possibility is there? Unfortunate. Maybe they are in the right to be confident in their handling/findings but I can’t help but think about how these adamant statements will look if it comes out that she actually had been in there.

Latest Statement from NC State Highway Patrol

Although the family of a missing woman has said they believe she was killed in a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 85, a spokesman for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol told WRAL News that after "exhaustive efforts" to look over the crash scene and truck, no evidence has been found to support that claim.
Highway Patrol: Missing Va. woman was not in truck that crashed, burned on I-85
