VA VA - Alyssa Nicole Taylor, 25, left for a few days in a tractor trailer, Accomack Co, 13 Sept 2022

  • #81
From the missing notice. I emailed, urging that the landfill be checked.
I sent a link to video showing a tractor scooping/loading up wreckage and debris. I don't think it would be difficult to locate this at a landfill. It's not going to blend into all the regular garbage. Hopefully, there are still pockets of this stuff and it's not totally mixed.

"If anyone has information that could aid in the investigation to find Alyssa Taylor, please contact Investigator Nicholas Kugler, of the Accomack County Sheriff's Office at [email protected]"

I realize this dept is not handling the accident, they are in a position to request the landfill be checked.

I agree that the landfill needs to be checked but in the meantime they really need to do something to contain what was dumped to a specific area because if they continue to dump new debris on top of the crash site debris it will make searching through it even more difficult.

I can only see LE being able to interrupt their operations, there are several types of places that debris could have been taken to. Due to fuel, fire, burned birds, mixed metals, I have no idea where it was taken. I'm messaging local media that I see on Facebook too.

I just feel so awful for her family. They feel their loved one is likely killed but have no closure and no way to put her to rest. I'm sure they also might have a tiny sliver of hope that she somehow was not in the truck and is out there, alive, somewhere.

I really hope they are able to get closure of what happened to her and where she is.

IMO, it's extremely likely that her remains were partially destroyed in the post-crash fire and hauled to the landfill with the wreckage.
I agree. I was reading about accidents when someone was in the sleeper cab and the likelihood of ejection seems pretty high imo

A team of dogs could likely locate any remains in the landfill.

The diesel reserve tank is right under the sleeper cab too.

If that's the case then the fire could have burned hot enough in that area for cremation to occur.

Do we know for certain Danny's truck had a sleeper?

This is so sad. I'm going to look now and see if I can find more details about the rig itself.

Found MSM that mentions the crash.

A local family is suspecting that Alyssa Taylor, 25, of Oak Hall, Va, may have been in a fatal crash on 14 Sept. 2022. Her last known contact was a text message to her mother on 13 Sept., when she told her that she would be traveling with Daniel Eugene McNeal, 51, of Exmore, Va, in a Mack tractor-trailer.

McNeal was killed in a crash 14 Sept. on southbound Interstate 85 in Hillsborough, North Carolina, when he veered off the highway and hit an overpass before crashing around 2:15 a.m., according to N.C. Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Brian Martin. The truck was “engulfed in flames and a high volume of fire (was) impinging on the bridge,” fire officials said in the post.

Taylor’s family wants to know if she was also in the truck that claimed McNeal’s life.

It has been confirmed that Taylor was traveling with McNeal on 13 Sep through police body camera footage when he was cited for being illegally parked in Exmore, Va. Taylor’s cell phone signal was also last detected near the location of the crash at the time of the incident. Furthermore, some of her personal items were located at the site of the crash and identified by her mother.

This case is so tragic and very close to my heart, as I have family ties to both Accomack and Hillsborough and live not far from the latter.

I'm not getting the feeling that she is going to be found to be alive and well someplace. Too many things point to her having been in the truck.

I find the info about his needing phone calls to keep him awake so he could drive all night to be super-terrifying. I imagine he's not alone, and it's very dangerous to have drowsy people driving 18 wheelers.

A minor thing, but I wish we had the "care" emoji, like Facebook. I feel bad liking/loving as well.

I'm still looking for more information about Danny's truck. I believe one of the previously linked articles mentioned it was a 2022 model year of Mack, but I'm not 100% and have not located any official reports which would provide anything solid for the accident that would tell us with certainty. I assume there was a sleeper. I just think we should be certain, because you never know...

Ugh, this is just awful. I wonder what exactly happened here? Danny was braking at 65 mph for awhile before he crashed?

McNeal used the brakes at least 509 feet before crashing into the bridge and tried to steer the truck back onto the highway, according to a Highway Patrol report obtained by The N&O. The 2022 Mack truck then hit a highway sign with its trailer and flipped over, bursting into flames, records showed. The truck traveled 85 feet after impact, stopping on the right bank under the bridge, Patrol and EMS reports stated. Troopers estimated that McNeal was going 65 mph — the legal speed limit — when he hit the bridge, sending up a massive fire. Periodic explosions were reported up to six minutes after he crashed, EMS reports showed. The top of the trailer was already gone when firefighters arrived. The fire was “knocked down” by 2:35 a.m., but the cab continued to burn until 2:54 a.m., EMS records showed. The crash shut down the highway for most of the day; the N.C. 86 bridge reopened Sunday after being repaired.

The article above provides more details on the known stop as well:

The truck’s GPS tracker, which pings every five minutes, showed McNeal only stopped in Royal Farms, Virginia, about an hour south of Exmore, Marsh said. Video footage retrieved from a camera there showed McNeal briefly exiting the vehicle. A second camera located in a toll booth at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge showed him alone in the cab, heading south.

Not much new here, but at least it sounds like the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office is being helpful and wants the landfill to be checked.
How awful that North Carolina LE is sticking to the "she wasn't in the truck" narrative. Hate to say it but time for the family to get an attorney.

Dozed off, front tire puncture, a drunk driver swerving close to and/or into him, or - and it happens a lot at those hours of the night - the always dreaded herd of deer. Sometimes folks walk closely by the side of the interstate that late at night as well. Could've also been a mechanical failure I suppose, but it was a new truck and he was traveling at speed it appears.
