There is a way of hiding an online trail using certain web browsers and even rotating email accounts . I once had an email account that the address would change every 5 or 10 minutes to keep me anonymous . My IP address would also say I lived in Spain .(I live in Australia) I know nothing about computers but it was easy to set up and find .

And to think my son just told me to stop clicking the mouse on my laptop (cause he is sitting beside me watching tv) I'm like really? I'm flipping pages, I can't "not click". He informed me to use the arrow keys.... LOL!!

Well, I hate to say it but I believe some kidnappers have more experience kidnapping people than police do with solving kidnapping cases. They might know how to cover tracks. I mean the only digital trail might be a phone call made. That might be a dead end number. Same thing with the ad. They might even be able to see a deleted suspicious ad but will police actually call all deleted GoPro ad numbers to verify they are real? Without a warrant? And then will they actually go visit the people, or look into them - without sufficient cause? Is there a way of hacking into a CL ad and putting your phone number in temporarily? Definitely within reason to consider. Whether or not Anjelica is victim to this type of thing, they are very successful these days and we aren't going to stop them without thinking ahead of them. Remember, the time line, if all people are correct is that she was seen at 2. Wes was back at work around 1. So if that witness is right, then Wes is probably good, unless he left again from work or just had to phone in. I am also wondering why the police drilled him for 15 hours. Either they suspect him, or they don't have a clue? Ugh.............. getting tired.

Zach, the problem is that, to my knowledge, the only person who has said there was a 2pm sighting is WH. And you've already confirmed that he lied about a very big thing--that the Longwood jacket was found at her friend's house.

In relation to WH, I can't help think of the father in the Jenise Wright case. I'm pretty sure 99% of us, including myself, were convinced he was guilty after learning of his past.
Maybe it's because I don't want to believe WH harmed AJ, but there must be a lot of pressure on him because of his history. I'm sure he wants to overcompensate any way possible.

The neighbor is my biggest concern, to be honest. When I was sexually assaulted, it was by a classmate who I once consider a friend but slowly started to make creepy advancements/sending inappropriate texts that made me uncomfortable. I was terrified of coming off rude, bratty, etc. My psychiatrist says I'm a people pleaser, so I have a difficult time saying "no" or telling someone something they don't want to hear. Is AJ a people pleaser?
Scenario: Neighbor stops by after WH leaves..he's a neighbor so he knows when AJ's sister will arrive home.. AJ opens the door or goes outside because he's a familiar face..

Yep, I also thought Jenise's dad did it. Fellow WSer Knox and I had a private conversation and she convinced me to also consider other possible suspects, like kids in the neighborhood. Turns out she was right.*

The research I've done since then on abduction murders says that the most likely perp is a family member, friend or acquaintance. The least likely (around 2% - 3%) is a stranger. But it does happen, as we've all seen in the threads here.

So your neighbor scenario is worth keeping in mind.

And nycgrl, I'm so sorry for your pain. :grouphug: :loveyou:

*a 17-year-old neighbor murdered Jenise.

I usually have to ask my boy what the new internet speak means . Teenagers know way more then we do in this field

There might not have been signs of a struggle, but there were signs that someone cleaned that house above and beyond.

I was wondering about this too. Would AJ normally go above and beyond? My radar says probably, since she was the glue, so to speak. I'm the main housekeeper at my house and if I'm gone a few days and return to a mess, I simply can't focus until I clean. On the other hand, I'm not 18, home on a break with people to see and things to do. Zach? Thoughts?

With the advancement of technology sadly the criminals are usually one step ahead of LE

But the cops know if that technology has been used. They might not be able to find who used it but they know that.

So let's say those late night texts weren't really from AJ. But for her mom to believe them they would have had to have some kind of believable story behind them. Something that wouldn't alert her right away as to why she was staying out late. If the first text to her sister was from her and she went out with someone she knew she might not have said "with a friend." I would imagine she would only say "with a friend" if it was someone that her sister didn't know. But if someone that she did know. The "with a friend" phrase is throwing me. I am almost believing that it wasn't her that texted her sister. If my son texted me he was going somewhere or was with someone that I knew he would tell me that person's name. Like "hey mom I'm going out with Bob for a while." But he would say "hey mom I'm going out with a friend" if I didn't know them. I think it was just someone she did know trying to cover it up. IMO.

Ok so the jacket wasn't found at the friends house?

Hey all - jumping back in now that I'm finally finished with my side project. I don't even know what to say, I'm at such a loss after listening to the WAVY video.

I'm the one who did the text message analysis. TRUST ME, those texts were nothing. To clarify I mean the text AJ and her cousin were sharing - the situation WH said she was scared of.

But maybe her sister didn't know the friend . I grew up in a reasonably small place and I didn't know half of my big brothers friends or who he hung out with

Thank you for going into detail regarding what to do when a loved one goes missing. This is invaluable info to have if the unthinkable happens. I hope I never need this, but thanks for
taking the time to put it out here.

This is why I am here on Websleuths - for these gems like this. The logistics are the hardest thing to navigate. In fact the flyer issue has been a big pain to me. I feel like Jennifer's flyers (not actually made by her) could be a little bit better. The 'MISSING' logo or whatever is too small. The picture is too small and too much background and is a glamour photo. Wes and Jen's cells are the numbers listed instead of police. No reward is listed and no online reference is listed. MANY times I have gone into a place that has a flyer but the flyer is off to the side and nobody is looking. I put them right on the door or where people pay. I go to bars. I even prayed with a couple guys from a bar. We held hands. Now that was a thing of beauty. I have gone to fire stations and delivery places since they go into people's homes or see inside. I put at stop lights and walkways. At laundrymats, and barber shops. One time the bartender said I couldn't leave one, so I just asked a guy drinking a beer if he'd seen her and told him to hold onto the flyer if he would. The flyer might have ended up on the table for a couple hours. That might be enough. Bars are good places for bad guys to hang out at. I was gonna go inside a strip club but they were closed. I might tape one to their door with maybe a sticky saying 'please post'. I have tried to tell this stuff to Jennifer and all the friends that are over there all the time, but so far they haven't changed their flyer or their approach. They have all been fooled into believing I am just some guy interfering and trying to get back into Anjelica's life or something. Thanks to Jennifer. I think she needs to be in jail for awhile too. That's just my rant cause I'm getting tired and pissed off. If somebody has her, I wish all the damnation of the mighty God upon their head and may justice be swift and fierce........

It's definitely bothered me since I first read it. I expect my college kids to do chores when they're home for the summer or Christmas (since they're home for 5-6 weeks). But at Thanksgiving or Spring Break, no, I don't expect them to do chores and that's pretty typical of most moms I know with college-age kids. They're only home for a week and all they want to do is sleep in, eat good food and see friends if they're home at the same time.

Did you piece all the cut videos from the news stations of his interview together? That's talent!

I liked the personal touch your fliers had . I only had to read it once and the info stuck with me . I would think JH and WH would of welcomed any help to find AJ so I was really confused why they were telling people to tear them down . Until I found out who you were .

Ok so the jacket wasn't found at the friends house?

There was a jacket found but not the Longwood jacket and not AJ's jacket.

  • #856
Hey you seasoned sleuthers. Can we ask questions about Jennifer at all or not? Would that be sleuthing a family member?

  • #857
There was a jacket found but not the Longwood jacket and not AJ's jacket.

So really we can say that there isn't any real evidence out there (that we know of) that would actually give suspicion to this boy other than he supposedly found the first piece of her debit card and supposedly saw her leaving and coming back that day and said a white car followed about a minute later (according to Wes)?

Craigslist or unknown Abductee theory

We did explore this early on in the discussion, in Thread 2 I think (along with many other angles) and threw it out because the evidence is too inconsistent with that kind of scenario. As others here have said, there would also be at least one clue to this on her computer or phone, or friends who could have been near her. As far as we know, all friends have been looked at and cleared. This means they had a solid alibi or otherwise don't match what evidence LE does have.

The first question is, would AJ have used Craigslist? The feel I get with younger people is that it isn't as popular as it once was, and is known for being seedy.

With that said, let's still look it over in more detail as part of trying to put together Aj's activities that day. There are about 4 listings for a goPro on Norfolk Craigslist before March 3, only two of those she might have considered based on location or price. I am confident LE checked this out if they think it is relevant. If they do, they have probably asked Craigslist for logs so know if there were listings that have since expired or been deleted. It is worth mentioning that one of the listings stated a pickup location about 15 mins north of the search location off Battlefield and Volvo Parkway. There are other points of interest closer to that site, though.

A GoPro is not something that a trafficker would probably choose as a lure, since the listing is very specific and can easily expire before it gets any bites. They tend to choose things like rentals, roomates, iphones or other broader topics that they can more easily tailor to attract a certain type and which will get more hits. Chat rooms ae dating sites are more common than Craigslist IMO. Sex trafficking in particular tends to not resort to high-risk situations like classified or daytime abductions, and is not likely to target a girl like AJ that could trigger a high profile search (they go for girls with no connection, lower class, homeless, drug abusers, prostitutes, runaways, and especially under 18 and like to scope victims out first). I am confident the FBI are looking at this angle as hard as they can. Here are some resource that gives some astute information

https://sites.google.com/site/asocialepidemic/top-20-lures-into-sex-trafficking

http://www.traffickingresourcecenter.org/what-human-trafficking/human-trafficking/traffickers

The fact is, most victims that match a profile like AJs go missing as a result of someone they know. We believe LE have had ample time to fully clear all close connections to AJ, including her neighbor. All connections but one.

But let's look at the runaway angle before getting back to that point. Another missing persons case just recently in San Bernardino featured a young woman that went missing early in the morning one day, missing work and classes, her phone and laptop found in the bushes. Bloodhounds lost her trail at the street - she was taken in a car! LE was convinced she was abducted or killed by people she knew. But a couple weeks later, she saw herself on the news and called her father from a shelter in LA where she had escaped to take a break from issues she was dealing with. She never intended to stay missing.

Stories like these make it easy to believe it could be like that here. The primary difference, though, is that the evidence in this woman's case did not lead anywhere. It was a total mystery. LE also claimed how incredibly shocked they were at the outcome, as it is so very unlikely given what they had to go on.

To understand what it might take for AJ to disappear herself, we have to consider the things you would need to ponder before making that decision.
She would have to give up her academics and sports
She would be dropping her boyfriend and sisters, who she loved very much
She would have to swallow never speaking to her mother again, who she was close to
She would need access to a new identity or be absolved to living off the grid or dependent on someone else for a long time
She would have found a way to move money out of her account prior to taking off, at least in part. $200 from Wes is not enough for long
She would need transport and a plan

These are just not things I see her deciding on, given what we know about her. At least not this long. By now there is no way she would not be aware she is being looked for, adding another point to the list which is: She would have to not care how much pain she is causing people, and how much time and resources are being spent looking for her.

Consider the text received by her mother early in the AM 'I'm OK, I'm just not ready to come home yet."
If this was really her, then it implies she intended to take off, is safe, and is saying so. But then her phone goes dead and is never heard from again. If she took off voluntarily and had no issues telling her mom, she would have taken her phone charger or charged it again by now. I don't think she went as far as to cover up her tracks so expertly that the FBI haven't located her. You would only ever need to do that if you just committed a serious crime.

So you must think about WHY she might have done that. There is no reason we know of. At 18, she can get a restraining order against anyone quite easily. She had her own vehicle and can drive anywhere. She supposedly had 200$ and possibly more in the bank. She had no motive to go missing, but she did have the means.

I can't tell you how many hours I have stared at the ceiling thinking over the timelines and how things could have gone down. There is a reason for the basic procedures used in missing persons cases though, and if we follow them the trail leads us to one place.

Zach, I think you will find this resource useful and clarifying in how some of the thought processes you're witnessing work. Most of the talk around WH is dealing with the convoluted task of clearing up inconsistencies:
http://www.missingkids.com/en_US/publications/NC74.pdf

I think a good exercise now might be for us to put WH's statements in a box and approach the story without those variables. Where does it lead us?

1. AJ was last seen by her mother and sisters around 7AM March 2nd.
2. At 2:30PM, little sister texts AJ (ie "hey where are you") and AJ replies "With Friends ". Her truck is still in the driveway.
3. Sometime between 4:30AM and 5:30AM on March 3rd JH receives a text from AJ that she is OK, just not ready to come home yet.
4. At 9:15PM AJ still is not home and no one has heard from her since the text early in the morning. JH reports her missing.
5. Sometime on March 4, the neighbor found a piece of her debit card on Halprin Dr while walking back home from work.
6. Family and friend search the neighborhood on March 6th and find another part of the card
7. Wes breaks into the neighbor's house and claims he found AJ's jacket "balled up behind a couch cushion". Locals confirm the police were called to the house. LE did not confirm the jacket as being hers, but instead showed Wes pictures of some other items.
7. Between March 19 and March 21, police search a 3 mile radius around the Southern Packing Plant off Battlefield in Chesapeake and recover several items believed to belong to AJ.
8. Wes is arrested on March 20.

So here are the questions/comments that raises:

Were there other texts between AJ and JH between 2:30PM March 2 and 5:30AM March 3?
How did she leave the house?
Were her keys found at the house or are they missing? What other items may she have had at home are no longer there?
The neighbor was not arrested and we should assume he has been cleared by LE. Is there any other known possible reason he may be of interest?
The items reported by the media and reported on the scanner are in conflict. I can't comment on specifics but I question how the media knows exactly what was found after the fact when LE has not made a statement or confirmed the items are AJ's.

Very good post. I am too tired to address all the issues you raise. I will definitely revisit this one. Thank you very much for the resources.

So let's assume that WH was completely lying about giving AJ money. Let's assume there was no GoPro, no Craigslist. What happened to AJ, if we take all of WH's story out of the picture?

  • #860
Flip I'm lost so AJs jacket wasn't found at the boys house and this is the weird text boy from the house Wes broke into? And weird text boy was one of the people who saw AJ in the afternoon along with the smoky guy? Is this right?
