GUILTY VA - Ashanti Billie, 19, found deceased, Virginia Beach, 18 Sept 2017 *Arrest*

Ashanti may have met someone from the base on an online dating site or something and was preyed upon. I know they said she was in a relationship but for different reasons when people are new to an area or something they join free sites. It's possible that the guy in the video was also one of the people searching for her in Norfolk before her body was found in Nc

The other day, someone mentioned a bank being near the Blimpie store. That made me wonder if that AM Ashanti stopped by an ATM on base to withdraw some money for the week and someone accosted her there; or, if she was accosted when she got out of her car at Blimpie and was forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw money at gunpoint. Just speculation, but if the motive was robbery the perp(s) may have been concerned Ashanti could ID them so wanted to prevent her from talking. Have the cameras at all of the banks on base been checked?

I don't see how this could've been pulled off by only one person. I still think Ashanti was forced into a van or truck in a location where there may not be any cameras, and tied up--I don't think she would've been visible when she passed through the gate for the last time--separate from her car, which was driven by the other perp. And, I also speculated earlier that one perp or both had a delivery to make in NC--either in Charlotte or it was along the way. I'm still leaning this way. Ashanti may not have been dead, but perhaps only incapacitated, when she was taken off base and then killed in a more secluded area.

All JMO

An ATM ambush has been my thought for awhile -- she may have been accosted by someone near the ATM, and that/those person/s forced her to withdraw as much as possible -- or she may have resisted and was injured by the perps. But if so, why didn't the perps just take the money & run? Did they want "more" from her?

What a mystery this is... Her poor family -- trying to sleep each night knowing they will never see her again, and wanting justice for her.

I contacted the fbi because I believe I know someone that might have taken Ashanti. I had to call the number 5 different times and press several different numbers to reach someone. I felt brushed off. I hope and pray they find who did this. I'm concerned for myself too if he gets an idea that I may be on to him. I have never seen experienced anything like this before.

Thanks, Justice, for being a good friend and a good citizen. This could be a break in the case. Please be alert and careful.

Just now catching up after being away from this a few days...

Good post, Summernights -- glad you're posting with us. Yes, this one is a strange one -- unless she was willing, and something bad happened on the way or when they got to whatever destination where they were heading. Did she have a sever seizure that left her incapacitated and the other person panicked? So many unknowns. Let's just hope that LE knows a lot more than we do.

And,

I'm thinking that that the ATM is too close to the gate for something like that, but criminals do dumb things - and then sometimes just have dumb luck on their side. I believe the gas station next door may be shut down for a while so that only leaves the NEX Mini-Mart at the other end of that shore strip mall. When I was there around 7ish, there was a lot traffic at the NEX. With sailors and marines having shifts and duty either going off or coming on it wouldn't be unusual to have some business at the NEX at that hour. If they were open. I need to look and see what time they open. I thought I had written it down when I was there last month.

Per my internet search that NEX Mini Mart opens at 0530. That's just about the time Ashanti's car would be leaving the base. But those opening the Mini-Mart were probably there by 0500, 0515 at the latest. At about 0525, there would likely be a customer or two in the car out front waiting for the NEX to open. Between all of this and the proximity to Gate 1, I'm wondering if Ashanti stopped somewhere else the crime went down at that other location. If I was going to abduct someone the Blimpie's would definitely NOT be my first choice. Stranger things have happened, though.

The latest, but not really anything new.

I thought I read somewhere that Ashanti's CAC ID was scanned at the gate. But (1) she went through 2 gates, Gates 1 &3, and (2) the guards don't always scan the CAC's. During the morning hours when you are arriving on the base they are more likely to take your CAC, look at the back and then compare the photo to the driver and not even scan it. That early in the morning, though, they might have scanned her ID, but no guarantee. And even if they scan her CAC, they would not ask for an ID from any passengers.

Well done you for your persistence and for courageously speaking out .
I hope you're right and there's some swift justice. Looking forward to updates from the info you've supplied x

Thanks for the warm welcome!

It's definitely possible that she may have had a medical episode due to her epilepsy. She may have been without her meds, or I wonder if the extreme stress of being abducted could have induced an incapacitating seizure. I lean towards thinking it was murder though. When this case is solved (I'm optimistic), I'll be hanging onto every word to find out exactly what happened. It's baffling. I agree, LE knows more than what they've shared...that's expected and understandable. They know the cause of death which would give them important insight regarding motive, timeline, etc. I believe there is a lot of behind the scenes work going on and, out of the blue, we'll hear of an arrest. As with many cases, I suppose we have to be patient.

Thanks for the link. :) I thought I read they scanned her ID too. Actually, I haven't been on any base in several years where they HAVEN'T scanned mine or my husbands (whoever's driving) when we come through the gate. (our local Navy base and Langley AFB in Hampton, VA) It's almost quicker to just slide that card in their little machines and get a confirmation than to have to ID the person through the car and look at the ID and compare, compare. Maybe during really busy times like in the morning they just look at the ID.

I appreciate that...I'm constantly looking over my shoulder, reading, researching and waiting. I'm so glad you all are here

Thank you for the article link... this, hits, sooo close to home

I’ve never not had Id scanned (even as a passenger). Lots of posts have the self scanners now as well- they don’t always work, but if they don’t the mp will scan it with their hand held.

If the passenger does not have a military id they just look at it and hand it back. I’ve had to use my drivers license many times because my id is in the cup holder of my car [emoji4]( and I’m in my hubbys car with him). My husband said some places scan drivers licenses- but nowhere we have ever lived.

That said I guess all posts are different...but our experience over the last 22 years it was always the same each place we went. But now that I think about it I’m sure it has to do with what force protection we are at at the time. FPCON A does not require passengers to show id. We have been at B since last summer.

Anyway- I can’t recall if we knew for sure she was alone on the way in- or did the video not show.

I know Norfolk Naval Station where I work does not have self scanners at the gates and I've been thru Gates 1, 2, 3A, 4, 5, 10 and 22 all in the last few months. (They have closed Gate 1 for upgrades the last few days so maybe self scanners are an upgrade.) Last month I went through Gates 1,3 and 5 at the joint base at Little Creek and there were no self scanners. During the high part of the morning rush hour - 0530 to 0800 - I can drive in and MAYBE have my CAC scanned 1 time out of 5. And it is random - i.e., I will watch a gate guard merely check the ID photo and driver and not scan the card for maybe 2-4 times, then scan two cards in a row. So even though they aren't scanning them, you don't know who they will select. However, the rest of the day they scan almost 100% of the cards. And driver's licenses - that depends on the guard. I've had to pull a co-worker's CAC out of their computer where they left it the day before and take it down to the gate because the guard will only accept a CAC or retired military ID. As far as passengers go, they only check those during security drills - about 2-3 times a year.

All of this does make me wonder if there is real confirmation that she actually drove on base that morning. Either way with everything I have experienced I just hope the killer is brought to justice asap. I wish that the public had more info but my guess is that LE has to keep certain details under wraps due to the nature of the investigation.

Yes, that possibility occurs to me every time I think about her case.

So could you describe the type of person you think this is? Drug user? Violent? Sexual predator? Working alone? Employed? White? Black?
