13News Now Investigates: How long have police officers, volunteers spent searching for 4-year-old Codi Bigsby? | 13newsnow.com
[...]

The Hampton Police Department doesn't track the hours spent on each particular case. But the amount of overtime they've recently logged helps fill in the gaps.

We found Hampton Police logged 5,415 hours of overtime in February.

Compare that to the 4,112 hours of overtime the police force averaged the prior three months (November-January) when the department was not consumed with the Bigsby case.

That's an extra 1,300 hours of overtime during the height of the Codi search that began the last day of January 2022.

[...]

The military veterans' nonprofit organization "W.A.T.E.R. Team Inc." has spent 38 days searching for Codi, with no plans of stopping anytime soon.

President Joe Slabinski told 13News Now they've logged 1,940 hours in searching for Codi alone, and another 106 hours in mapping out and planning where to look.

“The evidence that we have does not completely match the stories that we have received at this point,” Hampton Police Chief Mark Talbot said at a news conference.

But Talbot also says there’s no evidence Codi was abducted.

Neighbors say they hardly saw Codi or his siblings outside and never saw an adult around.

Police are asking for the public’s help to determine when the four-year-old was last seen by anyone outside his family.

Boy’s body found in suitcase in Indiana: What we know | WAVY.com
The death of a little boy in southern Indiana garnered national attention after police revealed his body was found inside a suitcase.

The weekend discovery in Washington County has baffled local investigators, who have set up a tip line and released disturbing new details.

[...]

The suitcase has prominent Las Vegas logos wrapped around it. Investigators said it appeared to be in good condition.

“The child was found inside a suitcase that was sealed. He did not put himself there and wind up approximately 80 feet off the road in a wooded area by himself,” Huls said.

[...]

Huls said the boy was approximately 5 years old. He’s described as a Black male who’s about 4 feet tall with a slim build and short hair. Police had previously said they believed the boy was between the ages of 5 and 8, but they’re now confident he is around 5 years old.

Investigators say they believe he was killed within the last week.

[...]

Huls said he’s received multiple inquiries about Codi Bigsby, a boy reported missing from Hampton, Virginia, back in January, but said his investigators have been looking into the case and don’t believe the child is Bigsby.

“We don’t believe that will be a match,” Huls said.

“I’ve seen a few at 7-Eleven and mom-and-pop shops around here that have Codi Bigsby signs up that the police initially sent out, so the fliers are still up. The Hampton community has not stopped advocating for Codi,” said Wilson, who is the founder of the nonprofit organization No Woman Left Behind.

“Please don’t give up. If you can just kinda make it more aware, have banners and fliers, go on social media and share what you feel online on Codi, and that will help keep his name alive,” said Wilson.

Bigsby's attorney sends "cease and desist" letter | 13newsnow.com
[...]

The newly released letter, which was specifically addressed to Chief of Police Mark Talbot, Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck and City Attorney Cheran Cordell Ivery, states that "accusatory" comments made by Talbot during the investigation have "brought additional emotional, psychological and physiological injury to some of Codi Bigsby’s family members."

[...]

The letter goes on to say that comments made by the chief in the days and weeks following Codi's disappearance were "reckless, dangerous, and create conditions where the Bigsby family could be targeted for more harassment and potentially violence," and that they "further attempt to establish a false impression of guilt in the public eye, presumably in order to taint a future jury pool."

Several examples were included, with one of them being an incident on February 28 that had been recorded on Facebook live where several people approached family members of Cory and began questioning them. The people in the video can be heard using expletives while engaging with them.

The letter states that this incident happened after comments Chief Talbot had made in a media conference on February 25 and that they were a result of this particular statement by Talbot:

“I could give you more direction if the people who said they love Codi Bigsby gave us more direction.”
