Just added to NamUs. Looks like a pretty good match. Possibly a skip school day to go swimming.

Age 16-25. Estimated PMI 3 days.
Age, height and weight all off.

Seems like the match would have been made since both UP and MP located in Norfolk.

Red trousers with white pin stripes
Olive drab fur-lined zipper jacket (heavy)
Swimming trunks found in the pocket of the jacket.

The NamUs page of that John Doe was removed today. Darren's NamUs page was also modified today which makes me think that he's going home after 52 years.

Wow, I wonder why the UID case was only added to NamUs in 2024. Rest in peace.

His NCMEC was removed within the last few days. I expect that will hear something from the news coming up.

Just talked to a family friend who stated that they were not tracking him being found. I contacted the Norfolk PD and it went to voicemail.

Wouldn't it have been way too cold to swim?

I certainly would think so but somehow he ended up down at the river on his way to school. I’m just glad he has finally made it back to his family. Still questions that will never have answers.

Glad he was finally identified but this has really upset me. He was found only two weeks after he went missing and so unbelievably close by and so many items matched up. Maybe he wasn't fully recognizable from being in the water for weeks but still. So many mistakes. Not just for the fact that his NamUS was only added in 2024 but that this wasn't pieced together back in 1973. Literally had people half a century later linking him to at least two serial killing cases in CA and TX when he was found a stone's throw away from his house.

I was just listening to this news report from 2018: Man asks for help finding missing brother, 45 years later

The sadness in the brother's voice is just so palpable.

I wonder how and why authorities didn't make the match or try harder to identify the boy. It's so sad.

Makes you wonder how many other missing/unidentified cases could be immediately resolved if everyone entered all their cases into NamUs.
This isn't the first time this happened.
