GUILTY VA - Genevieve 'Gini' Orange, 29, raped & murdered, Falls Church, 25 Sept 2008

Gini worked for Futures Insdustry Association in Washington, D.C. FIA is a lobbying group.

Their website is here:

http://www.futuresindustry.org/

On their home page they make an announcement of Gini's death and say they are making a book about her professional life to present to her mother.

Hello All~
I have been following this case for the past few days. Has LE stated whether she was sexually assaulted?

Reflossn, they have said nothing about it at all. Zero. They have simply said she was found dead in her apartment late Thursday morning and that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the upper body. Some reports went on to say she was murdered sometime Wednesday night.

Thanks Airplane!

I hope they will release more info. soon. If I had to bet, I would say, there will definitely be some sort of sexual attack involved. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she was strangled also. The perp. will most likely be someone who:
1) lives close to her apartment or in her apt. building
2) someone who worked in the building
3) worked close to her apartment
I hope they get forensic info. processed quickly and make an arrest.
It is so sad and senseless.

Ruflossn, both LE and her family are holding everything very, very close to the vest. For example, questions about whether or not she was dating anyone are responded to with a terse "No comment." They're just not letting anything at all out. There have been zero leaks. We have only the information that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the upper body, was murdered sometime Wednesday evening, and was found late Thursday morning. Nothing more from either LE or her family.

I suspect we will have more information when they make an arrest, which will likely not come until the forensics are in.

I tend to think she was murdered by someone who knew her.

The funeral last Sunday afternoon for Gini Orange was mentioned in her obituary. Her mother and sisters flew with the body to Thomson, GA (where the family is originally from) and Curtis Funeral Home handled the graveside service for family and close friends. She was buried at Mt Beulah Baptist Church which is half way between Thomson and Wren, GA.

By the way, my son dated Gini for 3 yrs from 2001 to 2004 while he was in med school. And no, he is not the one who took her life! But you are correct in stating that her family and homicide detectives are mum on a recently former or current boyfriend.

Hi! Gini's obituary ran in three different newspapers: the Washington Post, the Roanoke Times, and the Augusta Chronicle. I read all three of them and while they had little differences, none of them stated the date or the time of her burial. The visitation and funeral services in Falls Church, yes. The Burial in Georgia, no. It mentioned the name of Curtis Funeral Home in Thomson, Georgia, but no time or date -- at least when I read them. :-)

I wouldn't think that a boyfriend from four years ago would have murdered Gini. That would be an awfully long time for a boyfriend to have a fixation on someone. However, someone more recent might be angry enough to kill her or a present boyfriend who is jealous and possessive.

It doesn't strike me that Gini was a fearful person or that she was hiding from some creep from her past who was stalking her. She worked for a lobbying group and was very active in her church.

Given that her apartment building had restricted access and there was no mention of forced entry, missing items, or a ransacked apartment, I am lead to believe that she was murdered by someone she knew and not, say, a burglar she surprised or someone who broke in looking for someone to rape and murder. There are too many places that would have been easier to get into and out of than a restricted acess, elevator apartment building. This is Falls Church, Virginia, not New York City. So, I think someone she knew murdered her, if not a boyfriend then someone else she knew and trusted enough to allow into her apartment.

Now that I go back and read all her obits, you're right--there is no mention of the time and place of her GA burial. I spoke with the feneral home in GA, so that's probably where I found out about the graveside service.

Gini was not the tye to pick up someone in a bar and bring him home, and she was also very careful about checking out her surroundings before she entered or exited her building since it's not in a great neighborhood. And there are a couple of gangs in the surrounding areas. But the intuition of some family members is that it was someone she knew and was comfortable letting in her apartment. Also, perhaps premeditated? She didn't have anything in her apartment heavy enough to beat her to death, so I'm thinking someone came with something. I hope they catch the 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 soon!

Basket-
welcome to WS!
I am sorry it is under these circumstances. How is your son doing over the news? My prayers and love go out to you and your family.
Thank you so much for sharing that information with us.
This young woman's death is such a tragedy (shaking head)

I am not sure if you read my post upthread basket, but I agree with you I dont feel as though the COD released by LE indicates she was hit by something as much as I take it to mean more of a beating death.

I have a former undergrad roomate from this town who is convinced that LE knows who it is as well as the family, it is a matter of building the case.
I hope for their sakes it is swift.

Respectfully, I think it is possible it was someone Ginni worked with currently or formerly, but I do not think there was a sexual assault or strangulation as they gave the COD as blunt force to the upper torso.
She knew this person, and knew them well; I am sure of it.
I agree with you and pray for a quick arrest.

Basket, I tend to think she was simply beaten to death with someone's fists. However, it wouldn't have to be an extremely heavy or large object. A cast iron frying pan would be heavy enough and sturdy enough to do the job.

I don't think it was someone she picked up in a bar either. I guess I just have trouble imagining Marilyn's daughter doing that. It's such a dangerous thing to do. I think it was someone she knew and trusted enough to allow into her apartment.

Had she been attacked in the parking lot, it would be reasonable to think it was gang members out cruising around looking for victims. She wasn't. She was attacked inside her apartment in a restricted access elevator building.

To blink34,

Two days after Gini was found, the lead homicide detectives paid us a visit, mainly to speak with our son. They were here for perhaps 30 min gathering information from us. Since our son is now an MD out of state, they talked to him on the phone while they were here. When I called him and told him that Fairfax homicide was here to talk to him about Gini, he hadn't heard and I had to just blurt out the news. He was stunned and speechless. He was able to carry on a conversation with the detectives and to provide them with an alibi and some information they hadn't previously gotten anywhere else. Being an M.D. he deals with death now and then and is able to tune it out. But this is his first experience with the murder of a friend, and it will take him a long time to get over it. i doubt that he will ever "get over it." He will somehow "get through it" one day at a time.

It would be just so shocking to have a friend murdered. It's shocking enough when a young, healthy person dies in an accident. It would be very shocking to have a young, healthy, friend who was a nice and good person murdered. Gini wasn't in any kind of high risk group for physical violence. It would be a huge shock. I doubt your son will ever get over it, he will most likely just kind of "get used to it," for lack of a better term. He will have to adjust to that idea. It will not be easy.

I cannot even begin to imagine what her mother must be feeling. Marilyn lost her husband in January and now her daughter has been murdered.

O my dear Basket- I got goosebumps when I read your post. How horribly frightening that must have been for you and your dear family.
I have had a similar experience and I know it to be life altering, it is how I came to WS as well. My thoughts are with you and Mr. Basket and Dr. Basket. As a an aside, I am sure your quite proud of his accomplishment, not ot be overshadowed by the circumstances.

An observation of slight concern though, If LE was at your door 2 days following, I must say it brings me pause that the actual killer may not be very well known to Gini's circle, at least initially.

Please do not think me presumptious to provide words of comfort to your son, but I believe strongly that Gini passed into the loving arms of her father through her strong faith without fear and with much peace.

I agree and I am praying to bring peace to her pain right now.
God Bless.

Dear Blink, you just beat me to it!!

I am so glad they have this guy. I thought the same as you: that our girl fought back because this Lawlor fellow has bruising and discoloration about the eyes. And, it was someone she knew. He was right there living in the building.

Now, I am wondering how they will charge him.

The second link states they are charging him with her murder, but non-specific.

His bruising, and the fact that this happened 2 weeks ago gives me pause as to the intent of this attack. I am not prepared to hear if this Lawlor character misinterpreted the kindness of a lovely young woman.

It kind of sounds, from the article, like he's just some creep who was always on the make for the female residents.

There are several different degrees of murder he can be charged with, and it will be interesting to see what else they have on him and exactly how they charge him.
