Both the Missing and Exploited Childrens Agency and Virginia Medical Examiner are following though with the lead I mentioned. I did get an email and they said they would let me know if it panned out.

It was good lead. Someone said that looks just like someone they traveled with , and gave a name and location, but there is also a margin of error with a photo like that…

Anyway, when I hear something I’ll report back.
Well??? I am on pins and needles here. I wish they would get back to you. I also have read that he had excellent dental hygiene. I wonder if dentists throughout the south or southeast have seen his picture? I wonder if there is a gathering place where dentists go to chat? Maybe his picture could be posted there and something might just ring a bell.

Shouldn't the Ocala National Forest gathering be going on about right now? I was down there over Valentine's Day weekend two years ago.

I'll email them again, but since then this case had been broadcast on national tv again. (read above)

This case is also at the Doe pages. You can follow it there.

Sorry for the double post.

I think they should go ahead and have a funeral for him. There should be a data base for missing people like this, but after a certain amount of time they should put this person to rest.

It's possble that he only had a single mother (or father) who had other siblings and simply couldn't afford a funeral.

He could be from anywhere in the western hemisphere.

maybe we should all give more support to places like the Doe pages.

someone might recognize him from a rainbow gathering, but lets face it, that's a slim chance, as not many people from 95 will be at the gatherings in 2007.

He has a very familiar appearance. Give it your best shot, but at this point he should be put to rest, and his memory (record) kept alive.

I think it would be harder on the family if they found out he was in a morgue for over ten years and not put to rest.

peace
John

Do you know any other information on the Leslie and Shawn Jones case? I'd appreciate hearing any info you know on their disappearance.

Thanks.

I think Jenna is referring to Post #17 in this thread, by Pondering Things, from December 30, 2005. I think it's just a coincidence that Jenna posted it about the same time that there was a person named Shawn Jones involved in an apparently unrelated missing persons matter. I was a bit confused, too.

  • #248
Yes, right, I was referring to the post by Pondering Things, and had no idea there was another Shawn Jones involved in another case. Sorry for the confusion.
I've been following the Shawn and Leslie Jones case for a number of years and would like more information, if any more is known.
They both disappeared in 1993 from Cape Croker in Ontario. There were apparently a couple of sightings of them shortly after their disappearance, but that's all that's known.
If Pondering things, or anyone else, has any other information on the case, I'd much appreciate hearing it.

Throughout these Cold Case threads, there are references to murder victims or missing persons who were believed to be followers of the rock band, The Grateful Dead.

Here are a few links to those cases. I do not know if any of them are related to each other except for the reference to the Grateful Dead.

Any thoughts on the subject? Any other cases linked to Grateful Dead Fans?

Wow. the younger picture does have some resemblance.

NOTE...I am working on more than one case where the Doe network has had incorrect info.....one inparticular DOE said there were dentals available, and there were NOT. They may have the eye color wrong...look at the pic of the boy, the 1st pic, the eyes DO NOT LOOK BLUE to me.....just a thought...maybe this needs to be looked into???

I never heard back from Trying2ID...and to be honest, I hate to admit it, I had forgotton about this case for a couple of weeks.....anything new?

What about this potential match?? Has it ever been submitted? I was going to do it, but I forgot, I'm sorry, I am horrible! I think I was waiting on a response from Trying2ID. I also messaged the myspace page w/no response.

I know a couple of submissions have been made, but is this one, should it be?

i apologize if anyone has posted this previously, but i stumbled on this guy's missing page again... and then after googling found out someone else on another site had already tried this but got nothing back from LE as far as i can see...

http://charleyproject.org/cases/k/kellar_robert.html

once again, sorry if someone has posted this already. something about this guy just strikes me in a funny way that i could be him.

Does anyone think that this could be a possible match? What sparked my attention is that it states he was last seen in Washington, D.C. on May 1, 1995 which was only a month or so before the concert. He must have been somewhat of a drifter as he was seen in Newfoundland in 1994 and he was originally from Swastika, Ont.

I think your guy is too old he was 35 when he went missing but would be 47 now. Our guy would have been born in the late 70"s early 80"s making him in his late 20"s to early 30's. Good work though.

  • #254
I think that a lot of information does seem to match. In regard to the stated age of Mr. Block, I would take that with a grain of salt. Note that the Doenetwork birthdate and age do not match when you do the math. One or both could be off a bit.

Even if the man was 34, it is possible that he appeared to be in his 20's. Remember also that the Grateful Dead John Doe's face was damaged significantly and the images available for comparison were only an artist's best guess.

I did the math from the DOB to get his age. The doe network age at disappearance is correct for 1995. Plus the hair & eyes are off Greatful Doe had natural red curly hair v MR. Block has straight blonde hair & Greatful Doe had brown eyes v Mr. Block's blue eyes. Mr. Block was also taller than Greatful Doe I guess the height of Mr. Block could be off but Greatful Doe's should be spot on. I'm not trying to discourage you if you want to report it I'm just telling you the differances I found between the two. I am pretty sure they are not the same person.

  • #256
I believe Grateful Doe's hair was not naturally red, but rather that it was corrected (by trying2id) that the hair was dyed red. The composite sketch seems to show straight hair, which is much different than the curly hair on the bust. Despite the age difference, the timing and location of this gentleman's last spotting seems to make it worth pursuing.
To jump back a ways, I believe it was reported that Aron Silverman was ruled out. Also someone reported that the general consensus in the area was that Silverman had drowned. That seems to make sense, given the circumstances of his disappearance. I do note, however, that his parents apparently were keeping an eye on Grateful Dead concerts as a possible place for Aron to show up. See a great, but old, article on Aron Silverman: http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/VA-news/VA-pilot/issues/1995/vp950419/04190031.edu . This article was published about two months before Grateful Doe died. Aron's mother is quoted, "Then, as time went on, I thought maybe he ran off with a group of friends to do something wild, like follow the Grateful Dead around. That's just the kind of thing that Aron would do."

what about rober kellar? has he been ruled out already?

  • #258
Are you sure about the hair cause his my space it was naturally red and curly
http://www.true-ghost-stories.com/HelpGratefulDead.html this site also says natural red hair.
Also I know I read some where that they stopped on their way to SC to see the drivers mom or dad one and doe introduced him self as Jason. I checked the VA state police website they still say red hair too and that a radiographic review is how they got his age. but even if the age and hair color were off the eye color should be correct. I think he may bee from our local area here it is very common to get off 95 there and take 58 to the hampton roads area. Also in VA under the 804 area code 914 is in chester which they would have already passed but he would not of needed the girls area code because at the time 804 had just split and hampton roads became 757 but he would have had no trouble keeping it straight because every one was aware of it. I think the girls had he correct name "Jason" I think he was from my local area and I think the girls altough never located to my knowledge more than likley lived in Chester VA. The dead came to Hampton VA every year and I remember it quite well because of the traffic jams drug busts and smell dead heads. I graduated HS in 95 I know that tat. was popular around here and tons of the guys I went to HS with had them. I think the key is a lot closer than we think. There is also some speculation that they know who he is but the family for what ever reason is not claiming the body. has anyone else heard about this? How/Who would I e-mail get in touch with to get this on our local news? Even if I am wrong and he is not local there is a huge dead fan base here maybe someone would recognize him.

The hair information comes from S.L. Groover, trying2id, who posted an explanation on a different thread on Dec. 29, 2005, entitled "Could you be the one to solve the mystery?" Trying2id said that the unidentified man had shoulder-length, wavy hair that was light-brown or dark-blonde. The hair had been dyed red with apparently a temporary dye that had faded in spots and appeared almost pink in places. Trying2id was very active in looking into this case, had been in contact with law enforcement, and appeared to be quite reliable. You are right that they had stopped in to see the driver's father, but I don't recall anything about the boy identifying himself as Jason.
