PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Thirty-two-year-old Hector Olmeda normally calls his 10-year-old daughter two or three times per day, but he hasn’t called in over a month.

His uncle, William Rodriguez, said Olmeda was visiting Portsmouth to help a buddy who was going through a tough time. He traveled from Chicago to Portsmouth and stayed at a Wilcox Avenue residence.

Rodriguez said the family last heard from him Feb. 27.

Hector Olmeda's phone, bank documents and passport were found in the car of a man who was a friend of his and with whom he had been staying. Human remains were found in the man's residence. The friend, Angelo McDuffie, a Navy sailor, has been arrested for charges connected with a high speed chase.

*****
Olmeda’s family said his remains have positively been identified and they are laying him to rest in a service Tuesday in Illinois.

Then, two weeks later (after his disappearance), police told 10 On Your Side that Olmeda’s remains had been found in a five-gallon bucket filled with concrete. The bucket was inside a closet at the Wilcox Avenue house. Police also found blood splatter on the walls, along with garden tools.

*****
10 On Your Side has reached out to NCIS, but has not heard back. In Olmeda’s obituary, the family said that, in lieu of flowers, people can make a donation to his 10-year-old daughter’s college fund.
