The finding of a body is not good news. The truck is a 2019, (based on license plate lookup). Has it been found?

Not yet, as far as media reports go.

Thanks @truthfinder2019. I did forget to include that link. I haven’t seen any new updates. Nothing but unconfirmed rumors.

Incident Being Investigated As A Homicide
March 27, 2026
Caroline County, VA- Earlier today, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a property owner in the Sparta area who reported discovering what they believed to be a deceased individual on their land between Bagby Road and Mt. Cloud Road. The caller, understandably shaken, did not approach the individual and immediately contacted 911.
Deputies and investigators responded promptly to the scene and confirmed the presence of a deceased individual. Deputies quickly secured the area, and members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division conducted a thorough forensic examination of the scene.
Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe foul play is involved, and this incident is being actively investigated as a homicide.
At this time, the identity of the deceased individual has not been publicly confirmed. Investigators are working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and coordinating with surrounding jurisdictions for possible leads to ensure a positive identification and proper notification of next of kin prior to releasing the victim’s identity.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Based on the information available at this time, investigators do not believe this to be a random incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Sheriff Scott Moser stated:
“This is a deeply disturbing case. The scene our deputies and investigators encountered was difficult, but they remained focused and professional from the moment they arrived. We are committed to ensuring that whoever is responsible is brought to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim this evening.”
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 633-5400 or if you wish to remain anonymous, please contact the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Incident Being Investigated As A Homicide-UPDATE

March 30, 2026

Caroline County, VA- Since the initial response, investigators with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office have been working around the clock to advance this investigation. Investigators continue to follow up on leads and are actively coordinating with multiple law enforcement partners as part of a comprehensive investigative effort.
Investigators have made significant progress; however, the identity of the deceased individual has not yet been positively confirmed. Due to the efforts taken by the person(s) responsible for this crime to conceal the individual's identity, the identification process in this case is complex and requires careful, methodical work in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Despite these challenges, investigators remain focused and are utilizing all available resources to establish identification and continue moving this case forward.
This remains an active homicide investigation. Based on the information available at this time, investigators continue to believe this was not a random incident.
"This is one of the more disturbing cases our office has encountered. The sick and deliberate efforts taken to conceal the victim's identity have made this investigation more complex, but our investigators have remained focused and determined. We are making progress, and we will continue to pursue every lead until we identify this individual and bring those responsible to justice."

Could be, there's multiple ways to try and hide identify which I won't detail out of respect for his family. But in any case, in a possible homicide investigation they seriously take their time in gathering the forensic evidence so that charges will stick. If the body had been outside for even a day or two in warmer spring temperatures, identification might require forensic odontology or DNA which can take a while.

Local to this.. does anyone else feel much of the story is missing? He left home at 11:30pm,he is pinged in Glen Allen (what was his mindset? Why was he in Glen Allen?) if he’s truly missing why has there been no media coverage? How do we know when the plates were read in VaBeach he wasn’t the driver? His family says the body in Caroline isn’t him, either it is and LE can’t confirm yet or he is running and had something to do with that body they found. His phone pinged 1.5 miles away from a corpse now he’s vanished. I can’t buy that subscription.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Websleuths. But I'm gonna help. First things first I'm gonna need to find surveillance photos of his car. A silver Silverado. Any one got an idea?

Glen Allen? I'm going to Google Maps.

According to Google and the News, he was last seen at Hopewell, Virginia, at 11:33pm. Hopewell to Glen Allen takes 40 to 50 minutes.

Here it is

This stood out to me: "the discovery site is approximately 1.5 miles from the 2100 block of Newtown, where his family says McComber's AirTag last pinged."
I am not a car owner. Is it common for people to keep an AirTag in their cars? Would it ping to JM's iPhone or to a family computer? Would "Find My" work that far away?

Welcome! A lot of things referenced in msm articles referring to evidence (for example, surveillance photos) are very often things which have NOT been released to the public and there is no data source that I know where you can find them online. If the stills from the surveillance are not posted in a major news source article or on LE's official page, they are likely not going to be available outside of FOIA requests, and even then may not be depending on the status of the investigation.

There has been a single photo circulating on Facebook that is allegedly of the back of his truck (showing window and license plate) taken by a flock camera but the original source of the photo has not been shared, so it can't be verified so I can't link here. If anyone can find the original source of that, that would be great.
