1988 mystery of Jerry Plaster remains cold

1988_Cold_Case_0_59960410_ver1.0_640_360.jpg

Jerry Plaster, 25, disappeared on April 16, 1988, after he was dropped off at the Manassas Mall by an acquaintance.

"Detectives assigned to the case have gone through and tried to retrace everything, kind of, about Mr. Plaster. His family, employers, to try and open up any gaps that might create a lead as to where he is currently,” said Sgt. Justin Lehman with the Manassas Police Department.

A month after his disappearance, Plaster was officially reported missing to police by family members in May. Relatives close to the young man thought he may have gone to Michigan to visit a relative, but this was confirmed to not be the case.

<<Authorities would like to identify an individual seen with Plaster on the day of his disappearance. He's described as Caucasian, in his late twenties, with an average build and thin, unkempt sandy blond hair. A sketch of him is posted with this case summary.

Plaster was unmarried and childless at the time of his disappearance. He had dropped out of Stonewall Jackson High School and was working as a laborer in 1988. It's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. Few details are available in his case.>>

From the 2018 article posted a few posts above

<<Jenny Beavers said, "He went to the mall in Manassas with a friend of his, David Dellinger. And, Dellinger said that he dropped him off, and that Jerry told him that he would find a way home."
But Jerry never made the five mile trek back home from the Mall on that Saturday, April 17, 1988.>>

<<"Investigators believe that he was suspect in the case and might have something to do with his disappearance," Senior Officer Charles Sharp said.

Detectives questioned Dellinger several times. You see, at the time there was no mall security footage to examine, no eye witnesses, just plain old gum shoe work.

Officer Sharp said, "He was evasive, and also, he was was the last person to have seen him alive which is also a pretty strong indicator that he may have been involved in his disappearance."
It may have been a strong indicator, but there was not enough evidence to charge David Dellinger in connection to the Plaster case.>>
