He explains that surgery to reattach a finger is called "planting". Dr Moore says when he is operating he assesses the cause of the injury, as he says the way the hand has been injured can affect the management and treatment of each individual case.

He says he has been working as a hand surgeon for over 25 years and has carried out 1000s of surgeries. He says he's done numerous similar surgeries to that which he completed on Johnny Depp after the tip of his finger was cut off during an incident in Australia in March 2015.

Court is just getting ready to start. Today Amber Heard's team will finish giving their evidence, and in an unexpected turn they will be calling on Johnny Depp as one of their witnesses. We should be hearing from him later this afternoon.

After Heard's team have fished, Depp's team will begin their rebuttal.

Depp's team has so far used 42 hours and 45 minutes of their time meaning they have 18 hours and 30 minutes of court time left.

Heard's team have so far used 53.01 minutes, and so have 8 hours and 14 minutes left.

First witness - hand surgery specialist

The first witness of the day is Doctor Richard Moore - an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hand surgery. He is being questioned by Amber Heard's team.

He seems nervous

Johnny's face right now... Looking right at the Dr as the Dr says he doesn't believe the injury occured from the vodka bottle.

He looks pissed!

I'm not 100% sure how his finger was damaged, but I don't buy someone saying it couldn't have happened in the way it was described.

Yeah, another reason I believe him. His reactions when people testify to things that he knows are wrong,he is quite animated.

Amber's team's eight hour clock is ticking and I don't think this is helpful for her side AT ALL.
The Dr is pleasant, but this seems like a poor way to spend time. What's the point?

'Depp's injury was not caused by a thrown vodka bottle'

Doctor Richard Moore, an expert witness in the area of hand surgery, is being questioned by Amber Heard's lawyer. He is asked whether he believes Johnny Depp's injured finger in March 2015 "occurred as result of a vodka bottle being thrown at him?"

Dr Moore says: "No". He goes on to say the damage to Depp's finger "was not consistent with that pattern of injury". He refers to the description of Depp's hand as "resting flat on a bar" when it was hit by a bottle, and suffering a "crush injury". Dr Moore says there is not evidence of damage to the nail which he would expect to see from an injury caused by a bottle hitting the finger from above.

"squeezing the finger between 2 hard opposing surfaces"...yes, the counter and the bottle, they are heavy bottles. I believe the bottle shattered more when it hit the floor, not his finger...and the fact that were no injuries to the rest of his hand supports Johnny's version
