Depp is suing Heard for 'forever tarnishing his good name'

Continuing his motion to strike Amber Heard's counterclaim against Johnny Depp, the actor's lawyer Ben Chew says that the ACLU and Amber Heard were "conspiring" to make it clear that the Washington Post article she wrote about domestic violence was about Depp, even though he was not named in it.

Earlier in the trial, jurors heard testimony from Terence Dougherty, general counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), who told the court that a staff member wrote the first version of the Washington Post article under the actress's name and that tweaks were made to avoid making a direct link to her ex-husband.

The op-ed was published as Heard was announced as an ambassador for the organisation.

Depp is suing Heard for "forever tarnishing his good name", Mr Chew says.

'Mr Depp is an abuser'

Amber Heard's lawyer Ben Rottenborn is now addressing Judge Penney Azcarate about Johnny Depp's motion to strike the actress's counterclaim against him.

It's a little complicated so we'll try to keep repeating this bit - Depp is suing Heard for $50m for an article she wrote about domestic violence which was published in the Washington Post in December 2018; Heard is countersuing Depp for $100m over statements his former lawyer Adam Waldman made about her over her allegations against Depp.

"Mr Depp is an abuser who abused Ms Heard," Mr Rottenborn tells the court, saying Heard did not conspire with her friends to create a hoax about her ex-husband.

Yes. Court TV published who is supposed to be called for rebuttal. JD's hand doctor is on the list. As a juror, I'd give more weight to the testimony of a doctor who actually examined JD vs the expert from yesterday.

Judge Penney Azcarate says she has reviewed all the evidence and denies the motion to strike.

The jury should be allowed back in shortly and today's witnesses will begin.

I think Chew made a good argument with good case law behind it in his motion to dismiss (strike) AH's counter claim. But I knew he wouldn't win it. The judge is content to let the jury wade through all the he said she said.

If they're petty things, can't the judge refuse their request to approach? I don't follow many court cases so I'm not sure how that works.
