The kids out of Dinwiddie are an even mix of "rednecks" and "gangsters." I say that with as little stereotyping as possible... it's simply what I know.

Most of them drive pick pick-up trucks with deer racks and listen to rap/hip-hop music. They are an interesting crowd. I have a lot of friends from Dinwiddie. I go camping with my friends in Dinwiddie along Lake Chesdin when I'm in town.

i used to live in dinwiddie and i agree on this totally. i guess you can all figure which out of the two i belonged to.

I've read all of the posts -- I think. I'm not sure why we're suggesting parks, and I'm not sure how far distance wise you folks are looking at, but might I suggest Pocahontas State Park? If you're looking at Appomattox Park, Pocahontas is worth a look too.

Being from the area, it doesn't SEEM to me that Kelly and Preston would be connected. I only say this because I know both areas well. They are opposite sides of town, really. Different demographics and other things of that nature. Chester is closer to Richmond -- Dinwiddie closer to Petersburg. I've frequented both areas... I went to high school with kids from Chester and Dinwiddie. Matoaca High School to be exact -- if you sleuth the area much, you'll run across it.

A map showing Pocahontas State Park in relation to BluePrint Automation and Matoaca bridge.

I just got a new free screen capture tool. Can you tell?

Here's my original post regarding PC

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - VA-Kelly Catalano, 40, Chesterfield MSG 15 Jan 10

There may be nothing that actually connects PC to KC - but I do believe it would be worth asking more questions of LE to find out.

Too many strange coincidences IMO. Could this PC be connected to any of Kelly's exes?

I find it odd that he's a military man who went on leave, only to come home and not tell family he's here. What does he do instead? He wanders around in the woods? The guy ends up being AWOL with the military. He walks into a police station and announces he's ok? And the story ends? There's no follow up, no nothing.

Would be nice to know exactly when PC's leave began and when he actually arrived and parked his car at Appomattox Riverside Park. No one knew he was missing until he didn't return to base when his leave was up.

What was he doing for food out in the woods all those days? Where was he staying? Out in the elements?

If the family hasn't pushed for answers in PC's situation I don't think it would hurt to do so. But that's JMO.

Just glad to see that people are still posting here. Was confused about the thread removal and didn't check in for a few days. Let me know if any searches go on this weekend. I want to help and I'm local. Thanks.

Ccweb, as a local, what do you know about Point of Rocks Parks? Is it deserted during weekday daylight hours? I would think this sort of park isn't bursting with people most days.

This is my final Google/Yahoo! screen capture today (everyone applaud) unless someone requests one, but I'm sort of stuck on Point of Rocks Park (PRP).

It is not far from BluePrint Automation (BPA) and can be accessed by all local, not well-traveled roads starting at Ruffin Mills Circle (which can be reached by going back up Touchstone drive, which is in front of BPA), making a right onto Continental. From there it's a short distance to State Road 746.

Here's a map from Yahoo showing the route from Ruffin Mills Circle to PRP. My guess is that that park is pretty empty on most days, yet boardwalks traverse marshland. Since I'm not leaning toward suicide, one could go for a walk here with someone, and suddenly ... that someone disappears.

This might be way out there, but you know, I'm not so sure.

Point of Rocks Park is deserted most days even in the summer. If memory serves there are 2 little league/softball fields, a soccer field and a football field. In addition there are a few picnic tables and maybe a few cast iron grills. I have walked the walking trail through the marsh land, both the short and long version and they are just trails, nothing spectacular but the marsh does rule.

I think this park is too far awya from BPA to be of concern, IMO, it would have been a walk through thick marsh to get there, very thick. If she managed to get there it would have been more likely buy walking snake road.

Yes Point of Rocks Park is very quiet a lot of the time, my thought was that someone could have driven Kelly there to "talk" and then harmed her! She probably played softball there!

Thank you both for the information.

Curious18, I was thinking more along the lines that Kelly was driven there. According to Google, once you leave the Ruffin Mill Circle there are several roads (not looking paved but with names that appear on the Yahoo! map in my earlier post) that lead to State Road 746, which leads to PRP. I don't know, I just know the local area has been searched so, so much with no results.

knowthings, that's exactly what I was thinking. And a poster wrote earlier in one of the Kelly threads that if you sink in one of those marshes there, you'd never be found. The boardwalks at PRP run right through marshes.

Yes, I think Point of Rocks Park should be searched, just a feeling I have!

Googlemaps says it's only 2.9 miles by the road, less than that if walking. That's not very much for a fit person who's used to walking. It would probably be longer than she would want to be away from work, but far from impossible.

Not far at all, and certainly not far by car. Someone could have picked Kelly up to "talk" and then drove her to PRP (what is it, a 4-5 minute ride max?), and done the deed there. If the place is deserted even in daylight, it's the ideal location. JMHO

It seems one of the only FACTS that has not been disputed was Kelly seen sprinting to the path towards the river, once on that path you are no where near vehicles unless she snuck back, which I must assume (hate to do that) is possible.

Knowing just a little a little about the area I don't think she could ever have walked there and found her way, the rive bears quite hard to the southeast, away from PRP, but maybe someone like Joseph might have a better take on the situation. I have never tried to walk between the two points so I might be wrong in my assement.

The road to there from BPA are all pathed, we locals call it snake road because of the twists and turns, hard to meet an on coming car actually.

All this just MHO.

I think all of these options should be explored since we don't know specifics. Hopefully someone will look into them. The thought of someone doing "the deed" to her or anyone else for that matter, makes me sick. I hope that Kelly is ok and if not, I hope whoever hurt her, rots in hell.

Snake Road =X Oh the horrible memories. I took my driving test down that road...

I also played softball at PRP a few times.

I was only ever there during the evenings and there was usually another softball game going on at the same time.

There isn't much at the park at all. A walk between BPA and PRP would be unlikely. A drive? It's possible. If someone feels very strongly about the area, I'd say search it for sure. The park is quite secluded. From what I recall, it was hard to find for my parents driving.

Sorry I can't offer much insight. I haven't been there since I was 13 or so.

I totally agree with you, beltingitout. Makes me sick as well.

I hope Kelly is alive and well, and I pray for her safe return every single day, but after all this time has passed, I can't help but conclude that the outcome will not be good.

I will rejoice if it turns out that I am completely and thoroughly wrong. Please, let me be wrong ...

Thanks for the information, LLLindsayy. I'm just fishing here. I don't want us to hit a brick wall, so I keep throwing theories around with the hope of hitting on something.

Kelly needs to be found, and soon.

I haven't commented on this case but have been watching it for some time now. I grew up in Meadville also. Class of 83. I just wanted to thank all of the posters here who have been trying to find this young lady. I hope she's just pissed off and hidiing. I know, not very realistic of me. My heart breaks for her family and friends.

Sorry I can't help more.

Truthsleuth, you have been very helpful indeed with the visual aids that you posted on this thread.

I agree with what you said in another post. I do hope that Kelly is still alive and that she will be found. But as you said, after a certain period of time, there is the concern that the outcome may not be good at all. Let's just hope that we're both wrong and that she will soon be found safe.

I was looking at one of the photos that you posted of BPA and the river that's next to BPA. Looking at the photos, I see that there are islands in the river.

What areas along the river has been searched?

Did they just only search along the side of the river?

Have the islands along the river been searched as well?

In another thread I was talking about hand held GPS devices. I believe cell phones have GPS. If I'm correct, I also believe the GPS on the cell phones can be used the same way as one would use a GPS on a car dashboard or handheld unit walking in a field. So if Kelly's cellphone had GPS, it is possible that it could store waypoints and tracks.

Has this happened before where Kelly would just go away for awhile and reappear again later on?

How long was she gone before she reappeared?

If she went into hiding, what would the reason be for doing so?

As far as GPS on Kelly's phone, if memory serves me correctly, her phone was turned off or at least when it was called, it went straight to VM, leading me to believe that it was turned off.

Kelly was able to hold on to a job for 8 years and I don't think they would have put up with her taking off any time that she wanted ie: having a break down or just mentally checking out, especially if she did this often. According to her FB page, she took a vacation in the middle of 2009...which according to her, she had not had one in quite some time.
