VERONA, Va. (WHSV) - Since September, community members and investigators have talked about a local three-year-old who went missing months before her disappearance was reported.

According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), Khaleesi Cuthriell was last seen in January 2021, and she was reported missing in September 2021.

Eight months since that report, there’s still no update. There’s been little information released to the public since the investigation began.

The community continues to ask: Where could she be?

Each of them has been charged with aggravated murder … felony murder, unlawfully concealing a dead body, conspiracy to commit aggravated murder, conspiracy to commit child abuse, and conspiracy to conceal a dead body. Brown has an additional seventh charge, of child abuse/neglect. Martin said he would not release any substantive information about the details of the case – including whether or not Khaleesi's body has been found – in order to protect the integrity of a future trial. [snip] Court dates have not yet been set for the new charges.

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) - An Augusta County girl who is presumed to be dead would have celebrated her fifth birthday on Monday, Dec. 5.

A group of community members plan to gather this weekend to honor her.

“When I first heard her story, I just felt like there were a lot of people who didn’t care about her. I just feel like god placed her in my heart, and then I felt like the least I could do was to try to get her story heard and advocate for her,” said Erin Landes, one person who tries to raise awareness for her story.

She said learning more about Khaleesi’s story will help other kids in the future.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A woman has now pleaded guilty to a murder charge in connection with the disappearance of an Augusta County child.

According to WHSV, Candi Royer pleaded to a first-degree murder charge connected to the death of Khaleesi Cuthriell on Wednesday.

She was facing charges of child abuse leading to serious injury, concealing a dead body, aggravated murder of someone under the age of 14, and homicide, but all of these charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.

Cuthriell’s mother put the child in Royer’s care in late 2020 and the child has not been seen since February 2021.

It is believed she died sometime in January 2021, but her body has never been found.

Travis Brown, who was Royer’s boyfriend at the time, was convicted of aggravated murder, felony homicide, and child abuse causing serious injury last month.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 8 while Royer will be sentenced on Feb. 22.

Royer pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and cruelty with intent to injure a child. In return for her pleas, six other charges against her were dropped, authorities said.

She faces 20 years to life in prison at her sentencing hearing scheduled for Feb. 22. Brown's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8.

"This agreement made it so that Khaleesi's family will not have to re-live the horror of what happened to her, and it gives us a clear path to each of these defendants never walking free again," Martin said Wednesday

During the questioning, Brown, 32, admitted the toddler was dead after initially lying and telling investigators a Child Protective Services official in a state car had taken her away in January 2021.

Brown and Royer, 44, were both convicted last year in the child's death. Khaleesi's body has never been found.

On Friday afternoon in Augusta County Circuit Court, Brown will be sentenced on a charge of aggravated murder, which carries an automatic sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole.

An expert on child abuse and torture testified the case fit the definition of child torture.

After authorities arrested Brown and Royer in Pennsylvania, Virginia State Police searched the couple's home where investigators found bloodstains on a wall that contained Khaleesi's DNA. One of the bloodstains was six feet off the floor. Police located a wire hanger with a handle made of tape that contained both Royer's DNA and the toddler's, evidence showed. Khaleesi's door to her bedroom was also found to have a lock on the outside.

Brown, also convicted of child abuse, has a sentencing hearing that begins at 2 p.m. on Friday. Royer, convicted of first-degree murder, is scheduled to be sentenced next week on Thursday, court records show.

I am sure you would be stunned on Virginia's list of 'say it so's"
I know I was. I however need to know if you caught the name of that expert?

Is Candi Jo Royer still refusing to talk? Have not seen any statement from her. Guess she doesn't need to since she thought it was a great idea to record herself abusing that poor girl.

STAUNTON — Travis Brown was sentenced Friday to life in prison plus 20 years for his 2023 Augusta County conviction in the killing of three-year-old Khaleesi Hope Cuthriell of Staunton.

Before his sentence was pronounced, Brown, 32, of Waynesboro, promised an appeal and said he was innocent. He said he ignored the abuse of Khaleesi because of a severe heroin addiction. He wondered “why I am convicted of something she did,” referring to co-defendant and former girlfriend Candi Royer. Royer will be sentenced next week for a first-degree murder plea in Khaleesi’s case.
