Recovered/Located VA - Lauren Cook, 30, & 3 children 7,5 & 2. Maybe travelling in a blue 2013 Chrysler van, Franklin County, 5 Sept 2023

I think it's probably the reporting. The direct quote from the police chief in previous articles is that they have shared custody.
Agree, LE was quoted they both had custody.

No update, no new articles in local news.

No word from the family. Odd....

Ah, got a name of dad. I figured out they were in Ferrum community connects to Floyd VA, home of the hippies.

Moo... <modsnip>

I knew something was off by the way the Sheriff office handled it. Franklin County is 100% farmers and lake folks, very conservative. These folks produce pot seeds and according to the website good ones.

WSLS is reporting still missing, and Franklin County FB.

...
The police will search the homes and close vicinity, and they may check local hospitals, check areas that are frequented by the missing persons,” Dr. Burke said. “What are their hangouts, certainly check cell phone records.”

Dr. Burke said the public needs to keep their eyes open in order to help find the family.

Real question here…There must be some sort of investigative protocol where the police would confirm this themselves, right?
Moo... They should make an announcement.

LE obtained bank records and all phone records, no activity since Lexington. Seems still an active investigation.

<modsnip - not an approved source> it’s interesting to see it in an actual news article. That she’s not missing. (Isn’t talking to another family member possibly who reported her missing then)
<modsnip - not an approved source>

It's strange that the father sent the statement to a TV station in Lynchburg VA. Roanoke WSLS and WDBJ are local to Franklin County and have covered the story.

I wonder why the mother has not contacted FCSD?

Until the Sheriffs dept makes a statement, she's still missing.

Moo....

But wouldn’t it be super easy for him to prove he’s talked to her?

Why hasn't LE said that "she isn't missing"? Usually even if the person doesn't "want to be found" LE still updates and says they're safe but don't want to be found, etc. I mean, im not saying she's not safe, but I would only take LE's word for that, not the husband who for all we know is Watts 2.0.

FCSD is being very closed mouth, about the investigation.

I do know from personal experience local LE and usually VSP do personally inform the family of a missing person, even when they do not want contact with the family. They also, very quickly remove from all missing person organizations and data base information.

I'm very concerned LE obtained bank and phone records, showing no activity since 9/8. FCSD did NOT state VSP were involved, however I do believe they have an open investigation. VA Code requires local LE to report all missing children, within two hours, VSP immediately enters into several national data bases AND initiate an investigation, required by law.

[URLunfurl="true"]https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title15.2/chapter17/section15.2-1718.1/[/URL]

Upon receipt of a missing child report by any police or sheriff's department, the department shall immediately, but in all cases within two hours of receiving the report, enter identifying and descriptive data about the child into the Virginia Criminal Information Network and the National Crime Information Center Systems, forward the report to the Missing Children Information Clearinghouse within the Department of State Police, notify all other law-enforcement agencies in the area, and initiate an investigation of the case.

Virginia takes missing children serious.

Since there are 3 small children involved here, I'd much rather take the sheriff's office's word that she's "not missing". Strange how little traction this story is getting, considering.

Good point.

As I see it, there are simultaneous investigations, either/both requiring LE discretion at this stage.
It's not just about investigating whether LC is really missing, but, also, whether she has maybe gone missing in order to try to conceal the kids.

We had a case in Canada last year where an ex-wife staged an accidental drowning, stole a friend's id, and disappeared over the border to hide out with her 7 year old in a place where she seemingly intended to start a new life.

We are used to LE not sharing information in Canada. I assumed it was a crime until she was found and arrested two weeks later.

As LE indicated, a missing wife/girlfriend is one thing. Missing children are a whole other level of crime, and Chris Watts was very much an exception, not the more typical/common scenario.

Bolding mine.
Same !

Obviously there is concern, on her side of the family ?
I'm not convinced that 'all is well'.

Last location Lexington, VA...
Moo....
VA has a vast surveillance system, cameras and license plate readers, even in small towns and communities. Most all states have the same.

I do believe, unless she's in a very remote area, the vehicle would have been spotted.

The missing mother and children are still listed as missing on VSP site.

Agree. Instead, the children are all still listed as missing

A husband is speaking out for the first time since his wife and three children were reported missing out of Franklin County. (Credit: Jordan Cook)

At the time, he provided us with a statement:
"Contrary to what has been reported, my wife and children are not 'missing'. I have no reason to be concerned about their safety or well-being. I have heard from my wife, and I'm sure she and my children are doing well. We ask that our family's privacy be respected at this time."
