i am a local. a former teammate of my son was quoted in the washington post. he has been friends with levi for years, but never went to his house or met his parents because levi told him that his parents would be angry that he has a friend who is black.

there is no excuse for killing your mother and especially for killing your six year old brother, but clearly everything was not all fine in the home like the dad is claiming.

You're right about that. As we've seen before in other sad and horrible cases here, the ones who allegedly do such horrible things sometimes come from some bad, bad homes, or parental situations, or school situations, etc., etc.
We feel sad about what has happened to the one who is blamed, but then we see the awfulness on the other side of it. That kid was IMO facing an ignorant, narrow-minded, and probably stern father, and Levi was at an age where he didn't have enuff experience, maturity, or ideas to know how or where to get help, and he had nowhere to go to get away from it. So he did what he did. And it can't be undone.

The judge closed the hearing to reporters. I wonder if they will try to move the trial to another county due to how many people know the defendant. It's going to be difficult to find someone in Fauquier who can sit on the jury and not have heard all this back story.

I have not read the articles yet so this is based solely on the post here. What IF dad actually shot mom and son, was going after older son saying something to the effect "I will tell everyone you did it". Oldest son fires at dad as he is fleeing for his life? Now I will read articles so I actually form a real opinion.

This is my thought as well. I do believe this is not all on the kid. I think the father had a big hand in this.

Even after I read the articles I think my scenario is possible.

And, he then could easily explain the gun shot residue, as he stated that he fired his gun randomly, right? Why else would you just, randomly and unknowingly, fire your gun? It surely would cover and/or explain a lot. MOO. Katt

This new update regarding the fathers suicide makes me even more sure there is more to this! Any upcoming court dates for the accused?

I'm right there with you. When I heard about the father, it solidified for me that this is far from over and we will hear much more about this.

There was supposedly another hearing on March 9, but it must have been a closed hearing because there is no reporting from that hearing.

At some point we'll get a trial date or a plea deal.

Where on earth is this going? There is something real fishy about this. The father didn't seem to mind posting on white supremacist sites before so what was the problem now if that was his conviction.

Under the Miller and Montgomery cases, the killer is a "child" and will be out of prison in a maximum of 25 years.

That's the way juvenile justice works nowadays, all thanks to SCOTUS.

Even juveniles who commit rape in commission with murder get released after no more than 25 years.

Read the Miller ruling-any lawyer who supports it should have flunked out of law school. Yeah, over 40 states allow mandatory life for juveniles, but they all accidentally allowed the sentence. And, therefore, there's actually a consensus against life sentences for juveniles. That's basically a summary of the ruling.

They ultimately decided to punt on Lee Malvo because it would have created so much outrage.

OMG, the father was just found dead. Article states he was fearful of what police investigation into the murders would turn up about his affiliation with white supremacy.

He already pretty much disclosed he was a white supremacist by posting the David Lane saying on Facebook. If I'm not mistaken, that's the 14 words in the 14/88 white supremacist slogan. (88 stands for Heil Hitler since H is the 8th letter of the alphabet.)

And why would he have disclosed his name on Stormfront if he didn't want his membership on the website to be found out?

A little weird that he'd care.

Teen indicted for murders of mom, brother in Fauquier County

Levi Norwood, 17, has been indicted by a Fauquier County grand jury on murder charges in the Feb. 14 shooting deaths of his mother and brother in their home in Midland, Virginia.

Charging documents say Levi Norwood told his girlfriend earlier that day, while at school, “that he wanted to kill his mother.” The girlfriend also said Norwood was depressed and anxious, and told her he was schizophrenic and would see “shadow people.”

However, before his indictment, a district court judge ruled Norwood was competent to stand trial.
Norwood is undergoing additional mental evaluations, which could determine whether he was sane at the time of the crime.

According to court records, Leviathan “Levi” Norwood was indicted Monday on several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, for killing his mother, Jennifer Norwood, and 6-year-old brother Wyatt Norwood, and attempted murder, for shooting and wounding his father, Joshua Norwood.

Joshua Norwood told police that his son had been depressed and prescribed medication, and that “he and his wife had found text messages on Leviathan’s phone pertaining to committing suicide.”

Levi Norwood was also indicted on three counts for using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and grand theft of an automobile.

According to Fauquier Now,

Legally a juvenile, Mr. Norwood made his first Fauquier court appearance on Monday, Feb. 24.

Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge Melissa N. Cupp presided over the 15-minute closed hearing.

Judge Cupp closed it at the request of Deputy Public Defender Ryan D. Ruzic and Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott C. Hook.

Mr. Ruzic argued the hearing could be closed for “good cause.”

The Washington Post unsuccessfully petitioned the judge to keep the proceedings open to the public.

Judge Cupp last month certified the case to the grand jury for consideration. All of Mr. Norwood’s future court appearances will be open to the public.

No new news on this, so it looks like the hearing this week is still on.
