Circumstances of Recovery: Sometime between August 1997 and January 1998 an off-duty deputy was fishing in a county pond and discovered the hair mat. It was later investigated as possibly belonging to a missing girl from the county, but ultimately was determined not to be her.

Apparently there was soft tissue too according to Namus (”partial remains with soft tissue”).

Maybe it would be possible to extract DNA from it.

I remember a case like this before, I think. The girl was missing out of Ohio maybe and the same type of remains were found in VA by someone fishing. Would assume this is Not the same case as it wouldn't be on Namus if it was. Interesting nonetheless.

I assume that since they know race and sex for this person, they probably have DNA.
