Some of the DNA evidence collected includes the following:
  • Cheek sample from the couple's daughter.
  • Hairbrush belonging to Mamta.
  • Piece of carpet
  • Cheek sample from Naresh
The report, prepared by Virginia’s Department of Forensic Science Northern Laboratory, indicates blood found on parts of a reciprocating saw, a handheld power tool commonly used to cut drywall, wood, hard plastic and metal, matched a DNA profile created from Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s hairbrush.
That's two killers in a week now that have been found to have used saws for this purpose (Brad Simpson being the other). Crazy.

I had just scrolled up after the prior post thinking somehow I hadn't actually clicked on Mamta's thread and was in Suzanne's again instead also thinking surely we didn't have a second this week!

This week, prosecutors filed four certificate of analysis reports from the commonwealth’s Department of Forensic Science, which provides insight to evidence police believe they have in the case against a defendant.
  • Items submitted include Mamta’s hairbrush and strands of hair, swabs taken from inside the cheek of Naresh, swabs from Mini Mamta, and swabs from a garbage can which had blood inside them.
  • Also submitted was a piece of carpet with blood on it that prosecutors said was Mamta’s.
  • Prosecutors have video of Naresh dropping bags into a dumpster after dropping Mini Mamta off with a babysitter on July 30.
  • Later that evening, Naresh purchased a “40-pack of extra strong black trash bags.” Earlier in the day he bought a set of knives.
  • On July 31 at 1:30 a.m., Naresh was caught on video retrieving bags from his Tesla and putting them into a trash compactor.

According to the report – completed by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Northern Laboratory, submitted to police Oct. 29 and available via court documents this week – stained swab samples from a reciprocating saw’s bottom vent and the interior ridge of the saw’s handle matched a “DNA mixture profile” created from Mamta Bhatt’s hairbrush.

As for an official cause of death and a murder weapon, Lugo declined to delve into further detail when asked at the press conference. A section of the report dated Aug. 28 reveals four knives were tested for blood and came back negative. “No blood was indicated,” per the report.

"We don't have a complete DNA profile of every piece of evidence, but we have a lot of powerful evidence," Fishwick opined.

The certificates of analysis from the Department of Forensic Science later filed into the court record were dated between August 28 and November 12. Naresh was indicted by a grand jury for murder and physically defiling a dead body on December 2.

***This article is paywalled, but here is a summary per TOS.

One of Mamta's co-workers, SB, believed her when she said the bruises on her face came from a fall. Then she came to work in February hurt again and crying. SB gave her the number for the National Domestic Violence Hotline and 5 links to resources in Virginia. Mamta told her she wanted to try couple counseling and give NB another chance because she loved him so much and didn't want to get him in trouble. Not long after that, Mamta transferred to another hospital and stopped answering SB's messages.

That same month, Mamta and her baby arrived at SN's house bloodied, without a functioning phone, their joint bank account emptied, and needing a place to stay. SN bought Mamta a phone and begged her to call police.

Mamta sent her brother, MK, a photo with blood on her face and swollen eyes. He said in an August interview that NB beat her “uncountable times.” MK said his sister feared something worse could happen, but she thought staying with her husband was best for her child.

After staying with SN for a week, Mamta agreed to a meeting with NB, in-laws and some of their friends. She decided to return home and work to keep her family whole.

Friend and former co-worker HW said NB didn’t want to take care of a newborn, which complicated her return to work. HW referred her to an employee assistance program.

Mamta grew increasingly isolated, and after she transferred to a different hospital, SB said she continued to reach out to Mamta from time to time. She last messaged her on Aug. 1, but by then, Mamta was already dead.

“It places the defendant in the house, blood evidence on the saw and in other places within the house that is connected to Mrs. Bhatt," Fishwick said of the DNA evidence.

This week, the defense objected to the Commonwealth's notice to introduce publicly broadcasted interviews of Naresh Bhatt from a local news outlet as "business records." Fishwick expects the judge to permit this evidence, despite the defense's objection.

He seems to be a dumber version of Patrick Frazee, if it is even possible.
Oh yeah, no doubt. This time the killer left enough evidence that he doesn’t require a material witness to get a life sentence.

"The forensic unit of Prince William County said it was one of the worst crime scenes they've seen. That was one statement they made to the day that Naresh was arrested," said Chief Lugo.

"We're waiting to see if additional leads come about and where her remains might be," Lugo said. "And we're doing some other record checks of her social media and phone records and stuff like that."

Well, exactly.

Might as well have provided a guided tour for LE.

Such a pointless, ugly crime, with no obvious payoff, and no thought given to the fact that daughter, family, friends and colleagues might just notice that Mamta had gone missing in a wholly out-of-character way and might make an effort to find her, or what had happened to her.

Again, Frazee-esque.

friend of Mamta Kafle Bhatt, the Virginia pediatric nurse and mother believed to be murdered by her estranged husband Naresh Bhatt, provided more insight Tuesday into the couple's dynamic.

Nadia Navarro appeared on Crime Stories With Nancy Grace, alleging Naresh Bhatt was jealous, controlling, and emotionally abusive towards Mamta Kafle Bhatt.

“There's a little bit of a chess match going on now between the Commonwealth and defense attorneys,” explained John Fishwick, a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia who now does criminal defense. “The defense team wants to make sure they know everything about this case before the trial, and so they're going to ask for everything under the sun and hope to get as much as they can.”

Fishwick, who has been providing 7News with his independent analysis of the case, said it’s possible some of the discovery could be used as an exhibit in the upcoming status hearing on March 20.

Mamta's body has not yet been found. Naresh's trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8.

Noting:
  • 50 physical searches have been conducted according to Chief Lugo. He reported more than 20 searches last November.
  • 44 search warrants, court orders and subpoenas have been executed, compared to 30+ executed as of November.
  • They are still obtaining and executing additional search warrants, court orders and subpoenas.
