Just wanted to pop in to say I appreciate the cultural insights. If they apply to this case, we don't know yet, but I find them helpful and interesting! I've said it before and I say it now, I never know what I'll learn when following a case on WS!

Apparently theirs was an arranged marriage. We don't know what she expected or hoped from it, but a lot of arranged marriages work out fairly well. This one obviously didn't. For her to want a divorce is pretty telling, IMO. It indicates that he and his behaviour were below what she and anyone else might reasonably expect from an arranged marriage. Maybe any affection at all, and respect, were totally lacking. A woman does not leave an arranged marriage which she had agreed to just because her husband doesn't shower her with kisses and love notes. Kindness and respect would be fine.

However, I'm South Asian too (albeit Sikh) and lived alongside many Hindu families back in Queens, NY and here in the DFW Metroplex and I'd say a lot of Hindu families will say "apni beti" or "apna beta" when it comes to talking about their daughters or sons. This means our daughter, or our son. Naresh and Mamta are both Hindu and not Muslim. Hopefully, someone from Nepal can provide much more insight?

In case I wasn't clear enough, by no means did I mean to insinuate that misogyny towards daughters is somehow the norm in either culture; my intent was just to point out that it exists to some degree. I certainly hope my comments haven't painted a negative picture of Pakistani or South Asian culture at large.

I have been wondering the same!!! I know that in other missing person cases they’ve asked for neighbors to check their ring doorbell or security cameras for anything out of the ordinary.

I think that is well within the realm of possibility. Actually, I was thinking the same thing in regard to the Mischa Johnson case. I always want LE to bring in tracking dogs, and I hope they are able to do so.

Search for Mamta Kafle: Community continues to comb Manassas Park to find missing mom

Weeks after she went missing, a northern Virginia community is still looking for a beloved mother, wife , sister and friend: Mamta Kafle.

Some of Mamta's friends tell FOX 5 - they feel like enough isn't being to bring her home. But community leaders – like the mayor of Manassas – is asking everyone to stay positive.

"Right now what I need everyone to do is to stay positive. Stay positive that this will have a favorable outcome. That is what you have to do when you’re waiting. I know it’s frustrating and its difficult to wait but you have to do that," Manassas city Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger said.

Happens in every case like this. Personally, I don’t believe the baby is in any danger, even if what most of us think happened did in fact happen.

I’d still like the baby out of there though, but you can’t remove a baby without evidence, and law enforcement is highly unlikely to share anything with CPS.

I just looked it up on the USCIS website, and the processing time for the application for naturalization (N-400) at the Washington DC office is 7 months.

Yep.

That is not an interview one misses, especially with the stakes as high as they appear to have been in this case. She was clearly working towards her financial independence via her current employment and studies and naturalization seems like a logical next step for her and her child(ren).

Involuntary for sure. Next steps are, I fear, a matter of time.

I haven't heard that she was pregnant, but there is a similar case, from Hawaii, with a pregnant missing woman that has been discussed as having similarities.

I believe it's coming from this quote from a friend:

“She was pregnant and I have never, ever seen anybody lighter,” said friend SBT. “You know, she was very energetic and very eager to help people – [she is] kind of person. And she is there to help everybody out.”

But I think it was the friend trying to describe her and how she was, even when she was pregnant (obviously relatively recently given her baby's age)

I think if she were currently pregnant again that would have been focused on by others and in media.

Just prior to that friend's comment about how she was during pregnancy it talked about her being a mom to a baby less than a year old, etc. which adds to my thinking the journalist thought people would realize it was about the pregnancy with her daughter and that it's not a second pregnancy already.

Also a pregnant missing victim would have been elevated to endangered and Missing. Here, LE has only made it known she's not a missing adult who is not missing voluntarily. JMO
