How is it so different from LE? Most make it a practice to do the same. I don't find any solice in them being so closed on information. It does protect the wrong people in light of what has actually happened at times.

This is one case that I feel everything should be shared publically or they should be ready for the famly retaliation. You have a girl that possibly was a victim to one of their own...and you have a victim that had a horrific death.

They should be forthcoming on the suspect and help solve the case.
Im not sure I understood your question, SS. I was not condoning their practice, in fact I think I'm record I disagree with it strongly, these people deserve to know if they are safe right now, at a minimum. As I stated early on in this thread and in another few cases, I think the code of silence protects only them- Also- I see no reporting on the fact that NCIS is not releasing anything OR LE, no new info- reporters should be on their lawn, imo.

mmmbrownies, I agree. I was watching the news this morning and the story about the Lt. came on. I felt guilty for insinuating he had anything at all to do with Meghan's murder. He may not have and I wouldn't want to think that I sullied a perfectly innocent man's name. Maybe it is all coincidence.

As far as implicating Meghan's family in the Lt's murder, that was never my intention. It seems there are a lot of people hurt and angry by what happened to her. It could be a vigilante. Who knows. LE isn't giving us any information so everything is just a guess.

If LE was concerned for the fiancee and the children I wouldn't think they would put their names in the obituary. As a matter of fact, I have known in cases where there is a safety issue that the obituary is left out of the paper all together.

Chico - NICS is not investigating this, they were there though because of the person that they questioned. It's military protocol to have them present when someone military is being detained and questioned. They're a scarey group too, because while local law enforcement shows up with a couple of detectives to question you - NCIS shows up with a team. They questioned me several years ago in relation to some robberies in North Chicago, myself and a friend of mine saw a young guy getting beat up, so we stopped to help him (we caught one of the guys and put him in the hospital the other ran off when the car stopped), turned out it was a couple guys that were pretty much beating and robbing new sailors that were going to the exchange. When NCIS came to visit me there were 5 of them, and I didn't do anything wrong :) First and foremost it's the Portsmouth Police Department's jurisdiction, which can be federally overridden - normally by the FBI, but just because they're there, does not mean that they're the ones controlling the investigation. Beacuse of the area, there's a lot of interdepartmental cooperation required - more than you would ever think (more than I ever thought as well, but I know several people that work for and with the police departments in the area). There may be information sharing and you may see NCIS again if they take a suspect in custody that is military, but old standard is that civilian authorities get first crack at you. Also if someone is taken into custody, they'll be taken into custody of the Portsmouth Police. I'm sure there is a list of suspects that they're working through, but who knows how long it'll take. Also, since they said it's not random, there's not much need for the average person to be afraid, at least not of being the "next" victim. Be afraid because this sort of thing is becoming commonplace, but not that there's someone stalking victims.

I will agree, however, that there is someone walking around right now that given the right circumstances could very well become violent again. They need to be caught. I don't see, and I'm not hearing of anything that would cause further alarm.

Police departments (state, federal and local) tend to not release alot of information anymore, they work through one spokesperson that decides what to disseminate and what not to, which works out great because they tell everyone the same thing and there's not much variation to it at all.

As far as what federal law enforcement drive, you'd be surprised. They own a whole fleet full of Chrysler Vehicles, 300's, Intrepids, along with other siezed vehicles that were never released. They blend in pretty good to everyone else, which I would suppose is the intent.

JMHO, LB, but I did not feel you sullied him, or anyone else, I personally feel there is a connection to Meghan's case, but do not accuse Lt. Cox of any wrong-doing whatsoever. I am keeping an open mind as we all are when he have so little to go on.

Ive been reading along and have just been able to log on. The military will not release anything unless there is a "need to know". And the murder of Meghan, could it be someone right there on her street? When she went to get the Mac and cheese, the neighbor she got it from said that Meghan talked to her in her (the neighbor) backyard. Being a teen and not thinking about any danger, she probably left her door open planning on returning in a few minutes. There may very well be a someone crazy enough to do that right in the neighborhood. When I was younger growing up with 4 sisters, (before caller ID) someone would call our home nonstop when one of the 5 of us would walk in. The phone didn't ring when the four brothers were home or if they'd just walked in. It was someone in the neighborhood watching our home. The phone company put a trace on the phone and narrowed it down to three houses across the street. One was an elderly couple (60ish), another house was that of an elderly grandmother raising 3 grandsons (highschoolers), and another home was that of an elderly lady. They could not prove who the caller was, but after LE knocked on their doors to question the residents of the three homes, the calls stopped. I think it could be someone on her street. And look on mapquest at her address. The back of her home lines up with the back of a store or business or something. Any 0ne could escape unnoticed?

the back of her home has a drainage ditch as does mine her house backs up to other homes behind her someone could of came up from behind foodlion down the ditch. I would think they would have made some type of tracks being as wet as its been with all the rain. i think if they didnt have an idea on who did it the parents would be outraged on why they arnt finding anything or anyone and would think the news would be on it more. Im hopping they are just building a case to hang this person from the highest tree.

Maybe I was misguided by the map. But what about her talking to her neighbor in the neighbors backyard? Can her house be seen from there? Just looking for answers I guess like everyone else.

I know when there is a problem in the public schools, parents are usually notified. Then Ive seen instances where the parents nor the public are notified (a rape in a high school, drug bust, weapons bust, etc.) I don't know why they wouldn't notify the local community. (My prayers go out to Meghan's family, the families in that community, and those affected by the recent tornado in Suffok and Richmond)

another new person... welcome to ws jerseygirl123 !

I agree jerseygirl123, and BTW- Welcome to WS :blowkiss:

This whole community should have been alerted when they figured it wasnt the POI they thought it was- Kinda reminds ne if Brianna Dennison- in the fact that LE had at least 5 rapes before they put the DNA/clues/MO together and came up with a perp and a young college girl sleeping on her ouch was kidnapped and merdured because it was to late. I understand not giving all clues to the public because that helps in prosecution, but dont leave these poor people in the dark! Give them some type of clues!!! Please dont let there be anoth Brianna or MEGHAN!!!:furious:

Meghan's family needs compfort as well as the community in knowing some clues or whats really going on- You never can tell- Unfortunately, there are a lot if sickos out there!!!

I think the neighborhood would be freaking out and the parents would be keeping this in the media (correct me if I'm wrong 757ptwn, BTW, I'm a neighbor) if they hadn't been assured that this was not a random murder. I keep trying to convince myself that we haven't heard anything because they know who did it and are just getting their case together. I pray that's what it is.

757ptown -welcome to the group
I know this is supposed to be anon, so I will only ask this question. (i just have to ask as the irony is too familiar.)
Do you have a nephew who works in the sheriff's dept in ptown?

The incident 757ptown was referring to is the fact that my sister was murder in 1977. I doubt you will find anything on line relating to my sister's death as it is micro filmed in the Norfolk library.

lizzbeth (or whoever else may be a neighbor), you said you are a neighbor. I am not familiar with the neighborhood. From the backyard of the neighbor she got the food from, can her house be seen from there? My question is if she was nervous all day, then she knew who it was, or was there someone stalking her and saw the perfect opportunity when she left the house for (I don't know how long). Did she leave the door open when she went to speak with the neighbor?

  • #439
id say they could see each others backyard or back porches . this neighborhood i would think if someone went to the front they would of been seen with the older people around . ive racked my brain trying to recall if i saw anything out of the ord. i had a delevery that day and was from a fright service with a big tractor trailer i called the detectives to let them know just incase he saw anything

Welcome all new comers!!!

You have all been busy here!! Thanks for the insights into the neighborhood layout.

757............was that big trailor parked in front of your house so that you and possibly other neighbors might not be able to have seen Meghan's house??

Sorry, but it sounded like you both lived near Meghan?? If not...just whack me one or two on the head.
