she has TONS of offers on her blog from people to keep her hidden, feed her etc.
she's strange ... her FB page is strange ... her blogs are also odd
I feel really bad for those kids, regardless of the truth of the accusations
they need a stable parent and I don't think she's it JMO

All the strange religious stuff gives me the creeps. Not your normal church-going folks.

I agree, and that's what gives me pause. Her allegations are unbelievable on their face, but sometimes-rarely-unbelievable things are true.

Well, she's also been convincing enough to find shelter all over several states.

And some of the quasi-religious sects are actually just fronts for sex cults.

I just don't know what to think.

In the comments of this link, her brother-in-law is saying some interesting things. According to him, the children have denied any abuse and Melody said she "heard from God" that things were happening.

Flying Free

This is a difficult one bc you don't want to totally discount her bc we can't know over the internet what the truth is. That being said, she sounds mentally unstable. The police have investigated and determined that nothing was going on. The US Marshals are now involved and that says a lot. IF, and that's a big if, any abuse was occurring, she still went about this the wrong way. Where she could have possibly worked things out by staying and dealing with this the legal way, she is now a wanted fugitive and will definitely not be seeing or gaining custody of her children for quite some time when she's caught. I just pray that God sorts it out. Such a horrible situation. Those kids are going to have lifelong psychological and emotional problems that stem from all this.

Why do they not just subpeona her IP address location from her internet posting or blogs.

Usually when a mom goes underground due to abuse on her children or herself and is placed in a safe house, she is taken off grid from everything. That's includes FB and blogs. So I do not see her being hidden by professional sources.

I want to know if anyone has had visual contact with mom or children since August.
If mom was a danger before August as per father and family and LE state then
Why was she allowed to take them on vacation?

I hope for the best for these children.
I see nowhere mom's family is pleading for her return with children.

It will not be long now.
US MARSHALL'S ARE INVOLVED.

@Steph8angels could she doing a post & run? But all they'd have to do is call in local LE when they got her IP.

Hmmm. Will be interesting to see how this goes down. I hope for the best outcome, with no physical harm.

Those poor kids.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bannister and her children is asked to call the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400, the U.S. Marshals Service at 877-WANTED2 or the NCMEC at 800-THE-LOST.

Finding Bannister and the children has become more urgent after “recent developments in the investigation have led investigators to believe the children may now be in danger,” the Sheriff’s Office’s statement said.

“We’re concerned about the welfare because they are unable to take care of themselves. They don’t have any means to take care of them. Melody doesn’t have means to take care of them,” Wright told host Tom Morris Jr.

<EBM for brevity> <BBM for focus>

OK, I've been trying to figure out why LE believes that the children "may now be in danger."
The only thing I can locate is that Melody doesn't have the money to support the children.
So, LE believes that the kids may be in danger because Melody doesn't have any more money?

OK, on Live PD one of the reasons given for the Sheriff's Dept. to think the children were in danger was because the mother was involved in a "clandestine cult" and members of this cult were the ones helping the mother. (?)
Also, mentioned was the fact that the mother no longer has money to support the kids.

My surprise is that LE isn't attempting to paint the mother as 'mentally unstable.'
Unusual case.

I agree but read this attached link re: IP addresses. Very interesting.
You'll Be Shocked to See How Your IP Address Gives Away Your Location

10 % below copied special notes on ip address.

Your IP address gives websites, and people that you have connected with online, more than just a number—more than your IP address.

To be clear, they can trace it back to your geographical location.
Also, if a person (hopefully not you!) were going online and doing something illegal (according to the laws in place wherever you are in the world), a law enforcement or government agency might seek legal permission to contact your Internet Service Provider for information.

With a subpoena in hand, investigators would ask the ISP to provide the online account holder's name and address.

Malnutrition is a cause for great concern in a child as it quickly becomes the inability to think straight. The children could make decisions that are detrimental to their well being without realizing it, such as walking off a sidewalk into the road, playing too close to water, etc. They need to be protected and this parent isn't doing that by yanking them here and there. Their sense of security is gone, their trust in her is gone and she will never parent these children again once caught. The two older girls, if they were abused, are educated enough at this point to know right from wrong and will most likely speak up in the event of abuse. They need to be away from mom for a few months, feel safe and they'll talk. The littlest one will say things and not even realize he's giving adults clues because he is too young to grasp these kinds of concepts.

If she left with four children, a large dog and a cat, what kind of a vehicle is she diving? Wouldn't there be toll booth photos or other video proof of the vehicle? Also, why wouldn't the FBI be involved since they have obviously crossed state lines? MOO MOO MOO

  • #34
Didn't one of the missing posters either say a minivan or have a picture of one? I'm sure she would have ditched that by, though.

Wow, I don't have any idea about what to think about this one. Is she a nutter or is it true? Were physical/sexual assault exams done on the children? I would think that could prove if they had been sexually assaulted.

That was my original reaction as well. Okay, it's probably true that she is a little off or spacey but so far the only response I've seen about the allegations is that they were "unfound". If these men are the type of people she is saying they are don't you think they would pick these kinds of women to prey on anyways? The population of Stafford, VA according to yahoo is 4,320

Looking at her facebook she posted about a mom support group hosted by a baptist church. I don't think the baptist hosts it exclusively but I do believe it is a religious-based* program. I wonder how involved she was and what if anything they could say about her. I would think as a support group they would have to discuss something things, maybe she had made a few superficial relationships or genuine? I would be interested to see what their opinion was of her and how "incompetent" she was

*the website refers to God but not the word Baptist, the invite listed the location and I googled it

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Amanda Vicinanzo said investigators believe Bannister has had help along the way from members of a religious group of which she is purportedly a member, according to the Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg. The newspaper reported that the family’s pets, a white Great Pyrenees dog and white ragdoll cat, were left at one of the stops Bannister has made since leaving Virginia.

“After months on the road, we had to say goodbye to our beloved pets: Our giant, bounding bundle of puppy-faced joy and our fluffy cat, whose soothing whirr often assuaged our soreness of heart,” Bannister wrote on her blog. “It is a comfort to know they are in good, loving hands, since they can no longer be in ours.”

“Live PD” pointed out that Bannister has written about her religion previously, describing it as a “cult.” According to a blog she began in 2016 called Lady Adelaide’s Realm, Bannister grew up in a Quiverfull household.

Followers of the Quiverfull movement believe that the men with the most children will earn the most favor from God. They shun all forms of contraception, believing that it is only God who “opens and closes the womb,” follower Kelly Swanson told NPR in 2009.

According to some of Bannister’s friends -- and a second blog the missing woman appears to have written since going on the run with her children -- the danger toward the children lies not with their mother, but in their father’s home.

‘Will justice triumph over lawlessness this Christmas?’
A Change.org petition begging for help from Virginia and Alabama officials claims that the children’s father “conspired with (Bannister’s) father-in-law to perpetuate some of the most horrifying sexual and physical abuse imaginable upon her children.”

“When local law enforcement failed to protect these children, ordering them back to live with their abuser, Melody chose to live on the wrong side of the law. What else could a truly desperate mother do?” the petition reads.

“The children have spoken of being given strange substances in the barn that made the world swim before their eyes and caused the taunting faces of their abusers to converge together in a dizzying blur,” Bannister wrote.

She wrote on the blog that her only crimes were “believing (her) children when they disclosed a lifetime of ongoing abuse” and “reporting (it) to the Stafford, Virginia, police.”

“A joint investigation with Stafford County law enforcement and Child Protective Services determined the allegations were unfounded,” according to the statement from the Sheriff’s Office. “Shortly after the conclusion of the investigation, Bannister left Virginia with the children on a planned vacation and never returned.”

“We spoke briefly once, when he told me that he had interviewed my husband and would soon interview my father-in-law,” Bannister wrote. “After that, he stopped answering my phone calls.”

“We left home with barely a week’s worth of summer clothes and are practically penniless, living off the kindness of friends who, one by one, have taken us under their wings,” Bannister wrote.

Read Bannister’s entire, five-part blog here. Warning: It includes graphic details of alleged child sex abuse.

Stafford County’s Juvenile, Domestic and Relations Court granted sole custody of the children to their father the following month, Stafford County authorities said. Their father, identified in court records as William Joseph Bannister, filed for divorce last month.

“(Melody) Bannister refused to return the children and subsequently petitioned the courts in Alabama requesting custody be issued to her there,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. “The courts in Alabama heard the case and also ordered Bannister to return her children to their father back in Virginia.

“We set up residence in Alabama and made it our new home, where we obtained a protective order against the man formerly known as Daddy,” Bannister wrote on her blog. “This was swiftly snatched away when the judge deferred to the Virginia ruling, which ordered me to return the children to him.”

Bannister wrote that a family court hearing was held in Virginia without her presence Aug. 19, with a judge ruling in her husband’s favor. She claimed she was never served with a summons for the hearing.

US marshals issue alert
Aside from Alabama, potential sightings of the family have been reported in Wisconsin, Colorado, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas. The U.S. Marshals Service and the NCMEC have been involved in the case over the past few months, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A friend of Bannister, Julie Lampkins, shared a story on Facebook about the missing family, saying it was “with a heavy heart” that she shared the link about the mother’s alleged abduction of her children.

“We all have questions, but no answers,” Lampkins wrote. “Help the authorities find her and her (four) kids.”

Virginia mom, 4 children sought after she abducted them amid claims of sex abuse

So much amazing information, thank you! What is your take?

Things that bother me about this case:
The police are saying they are now in danger because they don't have means to take care of themselves but they keep bouncing from state to state making it obvious that they have the means.

One of her blogs quotes that she marries her Sir Knight and they fly off to blah blah blah. They make it sound like she recently joined a cult but with her background, it sounds like she's always been this way. So why all of the sudden has her ability to take care of her children been in question?

She makes a statement on her blog (the 5 part one) that her husband says she and her 2 older daughters (who accuse his father of the abuse) are not competent but how does he get to claim that? If she files a claim of abuse how in the world did they find him and his father clear of all accusations without even talking to the children?

How did this turn from a child abuse claim on one family member to felony charges on the mother in 2 months?

The comments. Wow. The BIL sounds reasonably objective in his comments too. Where are these children wintering at? Do they have warm clothing? Are they being educated? The older girl will speak her mind when she’s out of earshot of the Mom and feels safe. I hope that happens soon.

Admittedly, I haven’t read all the blogs yet. Just the first and part of the second before I had to ask...if her daughters were preschoolers when this happened, and then again her son, how didn’t she know? I totally understand how abusers are very good at manipulating, but she mentions their battered bodies. How physical abuse, not only sexual. There would be bruising. Did she not bathe them? Help them get dressed? How did she not see the outside harm?
I almost always take up for the accuser/victim, and I would 100% believe the children if that’s who made the claim. But I just don’t see how a mother who lives with her children full time doesn’t see signs of physical abuse and, at such a young age, signs of sexual abuse. Especially if it was multiple men. Not to be explicit, but that would leave visible signs.
I also hope the oldest girl can speak her truth soon. One way or the other, those kids are the true victims and have been through too much.
