Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers is asking for tips from the public to assist in a cold case from 2006, the murder of Michael Dobbs.
On February 5, 2006 around 2:38 in the morning, Richmond Police responded to the intersection of Ellwood Avenue and North Auburn Street to investigate a report of gunfire and a person shot. The officers located the victim, Michael Dobbs, dead from a gunshot wound, on the sidewalk of North Auburn Street. Michael had just left a friend’s house on North Boulevard and his vehicle was parked nearby.
Police believe that Michael Dobbs was killed during a robbery. They believe that Michael fought with the suspect before he was murdered. An unknown witness saw a fight involving a white male and two black males in the 3100 block of Ellwood Ave shortly before the gunshot was heard. Police do not believe that Michael knew the assailants.
Michael Dobbs was a recent graduate of Bridgewater College and was employed by the Cavalier Phone Company when he was killed.

Cold Case Tuesday: Police Still Seeking Information Related to Carytown Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is still seeking information related to the homicide of Michael D. Dobbs who was found dead in Carytown about 12 years ago.
At approximately 2:38 a.m. on Jan. 5, police were dispatched to the intersection of Ellwood Avenue and North Auburn Street for calls of random gunfire and a person shot. When officers arrived, they found Dobbs lying on the sidewalk of North Auburn Street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were told at 1:30 a.m., Dobbs left a friend’s house on North Boulevard. It was reported around this time, a white male, believed to be Dobbs, was attacked by two black males within the 3100 block of Ellwood Avenue. Moments later, a gunshot was heard. Upon further investigation, the incident appeared to be a random street robbery. Police do not believe Dobbs or his assailants lived in the area.
A recent graduate of Bridgewater College with a new job, Dobbs was loved by his family and friends. His family wants justice and closure for the loss of their loved one. The family has offered an additional reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this terrible crime.
