Virginia 22-year-old missing for over 2 weeks, South Hill police searching | 8News

Monte Theodore Reavis has not been seen by family since Oct. 11 and he has not been spotted at all since Oct. 13.

His uncle and his mother’s neighbor last saw him at His mother’s home on 3465 Evans Creek Road in Brodnax, Virginia on Oct. 11. Two days later, he was spotted walking on Canaan Road in LaCrosse.

The police department describes Reavis as a 22-year-old black male who is 5’11” with black hair and brown eyes. They list his identifying features as a small tattoo on his chest and a surgical scar on his abdomen.

Hi!!!

A 22 year-old black male named Monte Reavis has been missing in my hometown since October. Small town rural VA population about 5k. The media has hardly covered his disappearance besides online articles from when he first went missing. The local police department issued an update a few weeks after he disappeared only after receiving heavy scrutiny on Facebook. The update was vague like most of what we know about their investigation. They have declined help from the sheriff’s department in two counties. To my knowledge there has not been any official search for Monte at all. Rumors are swirling. I have filed a FOIA request with South Hill Police Department and I’m in contact with someone close to the family but that isn’t enough. We need answers!!! I have put together a timeline based on articles I’ve found and pieced together people who have talked to police or saw him back in October. What else can I do? Any advice?

BBM
The South Hill Police Department needs your help to locate Monte Reavis. While not normal to provide investigative updates to the public, this case has generated a great deal of public interest and some concern about the handling of the investigation by the South Hill Police Department. What follows is an overview of our investigation, if you have additional information, please contact us.

On October 15, 2021, the family of Mr. Monte Reavis reported him missing to the South Hill Police Department. During the course of the investigation, detectives have constructed the following timeline of events:

October 9, 2021 – This is the last reported contact between Mr. Reavis and his family.
October 10, 2021 – A friend of Mr. Reavis reported that he dropped Mr. Reavis off at the Days Inn in South Hill. When he returned later, Mr. Reavis was not there. (SHPD later confirmed that Reavis had stayed at the Days Inn for several days before checking out on October 9.) Mr. Reavis left his cell phone at this friend's house.
October 11, 2021 - Mr. Reavis was reportedly seen on this date on Robinson Ferry Rd. in White Plains. He was also seen knocking on a door on Evans Creek Rd in Brodnax on the 11th Investigators believe this to be after he was given a ride to the area by a family member and ran off.
October 13, 2021 – Mr. Reavis was reportedly seen on Canaan Church Rd. in LaCrosse by a subject that had worked with him in the past.
October 15, 2021 – Mr. Reavis is reported missing and entered into the national missing person’s database.
October 16, 2021 – SHPD Detectives created a missing person flyer and posted it to social media.
October 17, 2021 - Detectives received updated information from the family and responded to a family residence in Brunswick County to speak with them. The family reported that Mr. Reavis had been seen by a family member on October 11, 2021, and was given a ride to his mother’s house, in Brunswick. Once at that location, Mr. Reavis got out of the vehicle and ran away. Detectives contacted several subjects that Mr. Reavis had stayed with over the past several years and none of them had seen him since October 10, 2021, at the Days Inn.
Week of October 18, 2021 – SHPD received information that Mr. Reavis was seen in a local convenience store.

Detectives have been in contact with Investigators from Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
All areas that Mr. Reavis was reported in have been checked by detectives.

Detectives have tried to track Mr. Reavis by an iWatch that he may have in his possession, but those efforts have been unsuccessful. Detectives have also tried tracking Mr. Reavis by his debit card but his last transaction was when he was with friends prior to the last contact family had with him.

Information was forwarded to area news stations.

The South Hill Police Department takes this matter very seriously and is working hard to find Monte Reavis. If you have seen him, know of his current location, or have any information that could help in this investigation please contact the SHPD at 434-447-3104, Mecklenburg 911 at 434-738-0028, or 911 if in Mecklenburg County. If you have information and wish to remain anonymous you may contact Mecklenburg County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-676-8477.

If you live or have a business in any of the above locations and have cameras, we would ask that you please check them for Monte Reavis. These are the clothing descriptions that we have:
October 11th – Black pants and red and white shirt
October 11th – A person living in White Plains saw him wearing black pants, possibly sweats or joggers, and a red hoodie.
October 13th – Former co-worker said black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Missing person case raises questions; SHPD responds with investigation overview

(Editor's Note: This article has been updated from the printed edition of the South Hill Enterprise to include a response from South Hill Police Chief Stuart Bowen.)

SBBM

Chief Bowen said that no organized search parties have checked any of the areas he was seen. “We have the locations in Brodnax, Lacrosse, and in South Hill that he was seen in around the same few days. In all cases he was on foot and was along a roadway. When we got these locations, detectives went and checked the areas. Unfortunately, these sights were generally about a week old when we received them. Friends, family, and investigators from SHPD have checked these areas frequently. We also handed out missing person flyers while doing a traffic check in an area that he was known to pass through.”

Many responded to the social media post from the SHPD with questions about why K9 units were not brought in to assist with the search for Reavis. His mother says that she was told that K9 units would unlikely be able to pick up a scent due to the amount of time that had passed since he went missing.

SNIP

The only update since the post made by the SHPD is that Reavis is believed to have been seen getting into a white Chevy car around October 11, that had a Virginia tag similar to UVT 9684 in the Evans Creek road area.
