Google doesn't have a StreetView at the pond where police were diving but Bing does. Unfortunately, Bing requires you to have a plug-in installed. If you want to try, here's the area:

Notice that view matches what is shown by this reporter:

If you simply want to see the view, here it is:

Closer view:

I'm mostly just giving this so everybody can see how close it is to the vet school building. I wonder if school security cameras captured anything even if this was only the site of weapon or phone disposal?!

I don't have access to Twitter or Facebook here at work, so I appreciate anyone who can update. Otherwise, I will update once info hits MSM.

If she was killed to silence her about their inappropriate relationship (assuming because he's 18), why in the world did he become involved with her in the first place?? It's bizarre! He was a college freshman with a school full of girls to choose from!

I work at VT. Doubt the cameras caught anything. It's a pretty large pond. Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but there's a cross-country trail that runs right by the pond/Vet school, so maybe that's why they are checking there? He would have been very familiar with that part of campus.

Funeral Services Today for Nicole Lovell

The family and friends of Nicole Lovell will lay the 13 year old girl to rest in Blacksburg.

The service will begin Thursday, February 4 from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.

The family has asked the media not to come inside the church during the service and ABC 13 will respect those wishes.

Following the funeral there will be a graveside burial in Blacksburg.

I was mostly thinking the vet school might have cameras due to on-site drug storage. It would be great if cameras picked up something since the road is so close to the building. Perhaps he even turned the car around in the lot.

That's a great thought about the trail and him being in track!

Bizarre, to say the least!

And, I wonder what his history is/was with girls in the past... any high school girlfriends??

Because 18 year olds are not exactly a model of caution and self-control?

Online, Nicole may well have claimed to be 16, 17, 18.... I can't picture her pulling that off for 30 seconds face to face. Sadly, there are 18 year olds out there who can rationalize anything with, "Oh well, she didn't say 'no'..."

You can't make a 13 year old responsible for your decisions.

I could not "thank" this post enough. This is what I don't get. Nicole was not the kind of child that looked like she could pass as 17 or 18. She looks very young...and because she was petite in height, one could argue she looks younger than 13. I don't know any college freshman who would be attracted to a child so young (unless he was a closet pedophile). But will say that Nicole's language on instagram was harsh at times. I'm not being critical of her, just noticing that the f word is used often. Perhaps she thought it made her sound older and cool. But maybe David saw and read the things posted and assumed she was easy and eager. It's uncomfortable to type that, but that is the only that I can come up with as an explanation as to why he met up with her (sure thing?).

From what has been reported to this point, it seems possible that DE manipulated/coerced two females (ages 19 and 13) or NK manipulated/coerced DE and Nicole. The hows and whys... I have no clue.

The Internet is a fantastic wonderful place, where kids can travel the world, learning about other cultures, languages, or just meet up with their friends to hang out, creating stories, music, cartoons, videos. It is not Dantes Seven Circles.

I want to raise my child to be comfortable in her duel citizenship, she can be as safe online, as she is offline, it takes the same parenting skills, it's just the format that's different.

I love how you describe the citizenship aspect of your daughter's online presence. From a slightly different angle, I have two kids who are polar opposites. I can and have done similar things with my one child. The guidance and dialogue got us to a great point and safely launching to college next year. My second is mercurial, impulsive and full of adventure. On the net and in life, a new plan had to be hatched because it was not just about awareness and dialogue. He needs boundaries and guidance in ways that have challenged and will challenge us.

Your point about being the guide for child is well stated. I think the underscore for me is that one has to recognize who your child is and how they function in order to get the best plan in place. I have seen many parents abdicate to what other families do rather than recognize safety is centered on who your child is. Not all kids should drive at 17. Not all kids are ready for college at 18. Certainly, there are many young kids who are not ready for an unchecked online life no matter how small their digital footprint is.

It may not be enough to have your child's password and access to their phone on a regular basis. Many parents may need to really look and assess what their child is up to. I have seen a lot looking through some of the teen profiles that have a missing thread on WS. I often think how could they have some of the photos and statements posted.
