When it comes to her audible laughter in court today, I think she is Daddies lil princess to be honest. He may have paid for her enrollment in this club. I believe she knows she is a monster, hence the chuckle. IMHO

Also, I am thinking her Dad probably did talk to the jail about her mattress and food. Since he got no speedy response from them (probably heard from a call from his daughter) he brought it up in court. I feel for him, I really do, he has so much to learn about this new world his daughter has opened up for him and his family.

If she was in the jail I used to work at, she would not have to worry about a mattress allergy. Due to her past cutting and suicidal tendancies ....especially being weaned back on her Prozac, she would be in a paper gown, in a dry cell on suicide watch. She would have no mattress, no sheets, no shoe laces, no toothbrush, no pencil *unless requested and then for limited time under constant supervision. I cannot imagine if they take her mattress and give her a cleaning wipe to wipe off the metal or cement the bed sits on and give her a blanket to use to help her allergies how she will feel. Working in a jail/prison, you learn all about inmate manipulation, and usually it backfires badly for them....IMHO

here in CA anyone without an attorney gets a court appointed one. later, they may be billed if they are found to have assets but in general if you say you cant afford one, they assign you one. they don't want anyone getting off because they weren't represented.

You don't just get to say "oh hey, I'm going to need some time shopping for a great attorney, just do me a court appointed one for now". Only indigent people qualify for a court appointed attorney and from what I've read, Virginia is pretty strict with the financial guidelines.

The only link for Montgomery county I could find was from a commercial firm and I did not want to risk it being deleted, so I'm posting this info for Fairfax county instead. The information in it is the same as the info from the private firm about Montgomery county.

http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/courts/gdc/court-services/court-appointed-attorney-services.htm

So as of right now, DE's parents are not footing the bill. Either because they have chosen not to, or because they can't afford it.

The age of majority in Virginia is 18, so parental liability doesn't come into play and they're not obligated to pay for his legal counsel. If they do, and they might down the road if they so choose, it would be a favor from them to DE.

That said, the court appointed attorney DE has is apparently a very good one, as local posters here have said. So DE lucked out with that and he might not even want to switch.

Its been a while since I've posted on this forum so hope I'm doing this correctly. If its already been posted, I apologize in advance. This link is to a video from last nights Greta Van Susteren show. Its almost 6 minutes long and at about the 3 minute mark, there is video of the NC crime scene with the Surry County Sheriff.

I agree with the reporter "PURE EVIL"

Thank you, that is interesting. Feel free to share more about life in jail/prison if and when appropriate!

Out of interest, what is a "dry cell"?

Do we know anything about these sadistic DE and NK childhoods? teen years that would be early detection of what lead tem to plot such a henious crime?
IMOO I do think NK mastermind allot of the plan.
No fear of the plan?, no fear of seeing a young girl murdered? no fear in cleaning and disposing a very bloody gruesome crime? no fear of being his next victim? stashing away a evidence in a suitcase and why?
Blood has an odor after a ew daysin a warm house.
I wonder what walmart video is like............were they laughing? nervous? odd? bloody? at 3 am? how did they pay?

And I betcha those blankets will reek havoc on her allergies too!

(...snipped with respect)

I think this is key. We saw DE's father in that clip about his track success - he was wearing a team jersey, perhaps a volunteer coach? I think this is a family that has had a rude awakening. And as DE is an adult in the eyes of the law, perhaps his family want him to stand on his own two feet. Are his parents obligated to foot the bill? Or is he judged as being eligible for a court-appointed lawyer based on his(and only his) income/ability to pay?
As it stands it looks like an attention-seeking lawyer has attached themselves to a high profile case, pro bono. Perhaps it's a hand well-played by the defense?

bbm

The guy speaking on camera? I took that to be the high school athletics coach...?

Deleted by me: off-topic/derailed.
My apologies.

This last thread has moved so fast that I may have missed it. Has DE's parents ever made their presence known? Do you think they have completely turned their backs on him?

So he was smart enough to ask for an attorney. He may be paying his own way at college. I know of quite a few of people that think their kids should pay their own way through school as a character building exercise, or that they do it because they really want the education. From my experience from my child being in college, most of his peers pay their own way. So if that is the case for DE, he knew he was on his own.

We certainly don't have knowledge of any parental involvement at this time.

I missed how her body was found? Did N show LE?

It will be interesting to know the actions of DE & NK during the 3 days after they had murdered NL.
NK was at her boyfriends place. The boyfriend is in shock, I am sure.
He is probably a minor but I wonder what he will testify?
Did DE visit? Did they meet up?
All I have read is that NK texted "POLICE" to DE
while LE was at boyfriends house searching. Did they go to classes? Nervous? sick?

That's why I made sure to look up how Virginia handles it, since every state probably does these things differently. From what I've read at that link and others, they actually do verify the financial situation and you can't just say you can't afford a lawyer.

There really hasn't been anything going on with DE besides his initial arraignment (where no press was present) where they would have shown up. We just don't know.

Absolutely!

(& I thought that poor reporter was about to fall down the embankment as he talked with the sheriff!)

I must continuously be missing the MSM/LE linkage where it says NK was at her boyfriend's house... can someone bring it forward please? TIA!

I drove that whole road on Google Maps and can't find that big earth formation across the road. I know someone was doing a map; where exactly is this location?

Here ya go JanetElaine. This is one reference of many. BUT (JMO) am not sure it is actually correct. The very first reports stated she was located in her dorm, questioned by LE and she pointed them to 'the blanket' in a box under her bed IIRC. And - there's been no other mention of a boyfriend. I am sure if there was a boyfriend, we would have heard about it.

Maybe we should be looking for David A instead of David E....that is what the KiK screenshot had with his pic...mind you that picture isn't on DE's Facebook, at least that I can see.

Did one quick little google search using "david a", "virginia" and "imgur" ... interestingly, google suggested a related search of "r/jailbait" :notgood: I feel quite certain that subreddit was removed long ago, but found the (google) suggestion more than odd!
