We've heard so little from DE, I'm very curious what his defense is going to be. What could it possibly be??

jmo

I am thinking the 'GUILTY' is going to come from the jury, not from the cowardly defendant. I really can't imagine what their defense is going to be.

Sounds like the 2 'best friends' are going to be pointing fingers at each other though, maybe?

Do you think they can select a jury in one day?...

Jury selection is expected to take all of Monday, Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt said in a statement outlining logistics and other details for journalists.
......
Another early step in the trial is likely to be Turk’s decision on whether to let prosecutors present any of 17 statements Eisenhauer made to investigators when he was first detained days after Lovell’s disappearance.

I agree. It always makes me a little nervous when there's silence like this because it usually means the defendant has some really good lawyers.

Jury selection is expected to take all of Monday.

Another early step in the trial is likely to be Turk’s decision on whether to let prosecutors present any of 17 statements Eisenhauer made to investigators when he was first detained days after Lovell’s disappearance.

In a brief filed Monday, defense attorneys repeated arguments that police should have stopped talking to Eisenhauer after he invoked his constitutional right to consult an attorney.

Instead, the defense claims, officers sat with Eisenhauer for hours in the Blacksburg Police Department and continued to try to engage him in small talk with the goal of drawing out more information about Lovell.

While the 17 statements were identified in a general way, any incriminating content was not detailed in last week’s court filing.

Yes, it appears his parents have hired 4 of the top defense attorneys in Virginia. From the Roanoke Times link above:

Eisenhauer’s family has retained some of the highest-profile defense attorneys in Western Virginia, including John Lichtenstein, Tony Anderson, Melissa Friedman and Greg Lyons, all of Roanoke.

They have a difficult job ahead of them. The evidence appears to be so strong all they can hope to do is help him avoid the DP. It doesn't sound like they're calling many witnesses, either, though they want Keepers to testify.

The two different stories he's used so far are

1 That he met NL on social media, where she pretended to be older than her real age. He met up with her and gave her a "side hug".

2 He met her at a party and may have had sex with her. He got drunk and woke up in a ditch. She later claimed to be pregnant. JMO, this one sounds like one of those stories that are taught in those abstinence-only classes.

Who knows what his attorneys will come up with for defense, but they'll probably try to deflect as much of the blame as possible onto Keepers.

Just an FYI...

Schools are due to be closed today in Montgomery County for snow day. Hoping this doesn't delay the trial start.

Eisenhauer pleads not guilty to all 3 charges: murder, abduction and concealing a body

Judge Turk also denied defense's request to suppress the 17 statements Eisenhauer made when he was first detained after NL disappeared.

Jury selection is now underway

I was wondering if he'd make a deal - guilty on concealing a body, for example. Guess not.

Here we go.

it says his attorneys only subpoaned 3 witnesses: two from Maryland, one from S.C.

-we all know who the teen from Blacksburg SC is: the same one who attempted to smear Lovell two weeks before her death
-I can officially narrow down both of the Marylanders: (1) Keepers, who says she will constantly "wish to assert her 5th amendment privilege", according to her lawyers
-and the other Marylander race both high school and Hokie XC with him, and made the Junior Olympics two summers ago. not sure what key info he could provide though..

Are you there in the courtroom or did you read this somewhere? Not asking to be snarky - I'm genuinely curious to know if you are there.

only for the morning session. jury selection is not too fun. but they are definitely picky on who gets to sit in that box, conferring with defense team very heavily

interim judge asks them to do their best to "keep it down over there". defense looks to add as many younger white males as possible to jury

Interesting info about the defense strategy for selecting jurors. It's scary to think young while male jurors might consider him not guilty. Defense has obv done their research, though, and must think it could work for them. Ugh.

Eva Pilgrim of ABC's Good Mourning America and AMW's John Walsh also in attendance.

hearing that his defense will be that Keepers was very jealous of his Eisenhauer's newfound love, defense will pin everything on Keepers and the mystery 4 inch "catfight gash" on her cheek. Saying that yes eisenhauer did in fact go the woods with the girl on a legit date, but when he came back from his car to get the girl roses, she was gone, leaving Eisenhauer "sad and confused" as to who kidnapped the girl when he stepped away

(Remember, no one actually saw David E commit any crime, and he denies it. No one knows where Keepers really was)

That's pretty shocking! Are you in the courtroom or do you otherwise have some access to this info? Just curious.

If true, it confirms my earliest suspicions about DE, that he would find a way to make NK take the rap. He's a narcissistic sociopath, JMO. It takes a special level of sociopathy to deliberately stalk, lure and kill an innocent 13 yo girl. Would he really expect anyone to believe he took a child from her home in the dead of winter, took her to a remote parking area in the woods and left her outside alone in order to give her some roses?

IIRC, the ground was snowy and muddy. LE will have been able to discern how many people were at the crime scene and where they walked.

Ugh is right. I never even considered that his peers might be sympathetic to him....especially if defense is going to pin this on a jealous Keepers.
