There is an excellent piece on the disappearance attached to the family tree on Ancestry.Motley 1.png Motley 2.png
I don't think it provides any clarity over what may have happened but it does give a lot more information and it is clear that a huge search effort was made.

ps; for those having trouble reading the attachments when you bring them up, try right clicking on the picture and opening in a new tab. This should give you a bigger version of the page.

I do think it provides some clarity. It seems evident that he was having some medical issues that affected cognition and/or gross motor skills. He apparently had two minor car accidents in a fairly short span of time. The accidents might have been due to intoxication, but his demeanor on the day he disappeared suggests something more. I see three likely scenarios:
1) He was suffering from some form of dementia, perhaps due to alcoholism.
2) He had a mini stroke or a series of mini strokes.
3) He suffered a head injury in his first car accident.

I would bet the farm that he wandered into the woods and died, possibly quite far from where his truck was found.
