He may not be able to even form a sentence at this point. Guess time will tell. I know someone that ended up with permanent brain damage, due to DUI. He caused a wreck that severely injured other people, but because of his condition, he is in a nursing home getting 24h a day care. He can't feed himself, eat, go to the bathroom, walk, talk, etc.

During Wednesday’s roughly three-hour hearing in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Judge Thomas P. Sotelo listened to testimony from five witnesses, including two clinical psychologists who have worked with the teen and three employees from the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held.

If this was the case, I would highly doubt he (NG) would be held in any jail/prison.

I would think that even in a regular hospital, he could be held in some type of custody. Many prisons have hospitals with psychological and psychiatric professionals. IMO, he should be under some type of custody.

It read to me as if he had planned to kill the girlfriend then himself rather than the parent. It’s a damn shame she kept a weapon accessible with such a troubled son in the house. I always feel for these parents though. Imagine having a kid and he begins having mental issues in the second grade? And never has friends. Must be so hard. And apparently she never knew about the swastika mowing incident

The Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center looks pretty nice and well supervised

Fairfax County is very affluent, socioeconomically speaking. It looks like they spend quite a bit on the JDC facility and staff. They have educational, exercise, counseling and other programs and seem focused on rehabilitation. If there were a medical need, this murderer would be in a hospital, guaranteed. His parent would probably see to that.

Unfortunately, he murdered both of his girlfriends parents in cold blood. Premeditated. He sneaked into their house late at night, bringing a gun with him. Because of that, he's a danger to the public. He has to face trial and, if found guilty, the system has to find a way to keep him away from the public until he's no longer dangerous.

Wow - the detention center looks very nice. Seems to me that it would also attract very capable and high-caliber personnel for many of its positions. Yes, high-income counties are on a better budget than others, as long as the commissioners do what's right. This place should bring out the best in their patients/detainees and staff.

Hi all! Just came across this thread re a case I have been following since it happened as it is in my neck of the woods. Have a lot to catch up on here but here’s the most recent update i can find.
A Fairfax County juvenile court judge ruled the teen had been restored to competency after spending months at a Virginia mental hospital and being evaluated by an expert who said his mental condition had improved.

The judge’s move Friday came over the objection of a public defender, who said in court that the teen still had difficulty understanding issues related to his defense.

The judge set a preliminary hearing for July 30.

I have never been able to get past the fact that if you truly are that concerned about your son that night wouldn’t your first thought be to secure any weapon in the home? Moo

Gosh I have so much opinion about this case. It just angers me. From why at 19 he still gets to be treated as a juvenile and his identity kept private to how anyone who is saying their kid has had issues for years and was so concerned about him the night he murdered 2 people in cold blood in their own home, could leave a weapon and ammo accessible to him. I’m sorry but that would have been the first thing I did was make sure it was out of his ability to retrieve and use. Then I would have called 911 and had him committed. Which yes can occur at any time during the night. I also never would have ignored all the calls and warnings from the school, from the girlfriends mother, from neighbors.
It’s cases like this where parents don’t keep their weapons from their disturbed children that I believe the parents should absolutely be held accountable. I’m glad she at least admitted she blames herself. Because she should. This couple would still be alive if that gun was not in his home unsecured. JMHO
