Atomwaffen surfaced again in connection with a double homicide in Reston, Virginia, in December 2017. A 17-year-old neo-Nazi allegedly shot to death his girlfriend’s parents, Buckley Kuhn-Fricker and Scott Fricker, who had urged their daughter to break up with him. The accused, who shot himself as well but survived and remains hospitalized, was charged as a juvenile in state court in Virginia with two counts of homicide.

The 17-year-old was a big fan of Atomwaffen and James Mason, according to reporting by the Huffington Post, which examined his social media trail.

The former Atomwaffen member in contact with ProPublica said that the teen was more than a fan: He was in direct communication with the group.

Also PSAs to combat extreme right wing rhetoric. It's getting a lot of SM and airplay now over the past year or so, and it seems we need to concentrate efforts towards debunking the myths and lies that are being promoted so brazenly. There has been a creeping tolerance towards these aberrant views and not enough mainstream effort to shine a light on the insidious information being propagated. We obviously became complacent and are now having to fight a battle that should have been over decades ago.
Very well said; the thanks button wasn't enough.

Whew -- this promises to be an interesting trial, methinks... SMH.

When is the trial?

When is the trial?

Based on what I’ve seen in soooo many other cases, at least two years from now.

Another article about the alt right hate group the killer of the Fricker family is associated with. Includes photos from their "instructional" videos. Chilling.

It's so upsetting to see the rise of domestic terrorism again. Even more disturbing to see many of our nation's top leaders supporting these kinds of groups.

JMO, the lack of local reporting on the Fricker murders is depriving the community from having a real discussion about the problems with these groups in their area. Citizens have a right to discuss these issues and develop ways to root the terrorists out while better educating the local young people.

I absolutely agree, except that the effort needs to come from the community more so than the local media, IMO. Many local media outlets are starved for resources and are aware of local political sentiment. With the potential involvement by the accused with national groups like Atomwaffen, we need to have a national conversation about this, but that probably needs to start at the local, affected community level.

MOO, unfortunately, the Department of Justice changed the focus of the office / program that focuses on violent extremism to focus only on Islamic extremism. (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...program-solely-on-islam-sources-idUSKBN15G5VO). The conversation about domestic extremism, whether it be right-wing or left-wing, has become too politicized for the feds to address. Which, in my opinion, is a sad commentary both on politics today and on how those who seek to divide our country are succeeding. IMO.

That leaves it up to non-governmental and citizen-led organizations to take this on. What organizations are there in the Reston area? Is anyone trying to activate a community dialogue on this? Is there resistance to having a discussion because local residents who subscribe to non-extreme ideologies (in this case, conservatism) feel that a discussion would have negative ramifications for them? Are there other reasons why residents would want to avoid these issues, despite the violence hitting so close to home?

That was debunked as #fakenews ages ago.

Trump administration takes a pragmatic step to counter violent extremism

Always remember the leaks are real but the news is fake. That's how you catch the leakers

Wondering why the transfer to an adult court hadn't taken place yet. Hope they don't let him get off the hook on a claim of mental illness. From what I gathered from reports of the hearing done at his hospital bedside it sounds like his wonderful (tic) mother is already taking up for him trying to delay his departure from the hospital because the jail couldn't meet his medical/rehab needs. Really? She's more concerned about her precious baby rather than the couple he murdered and the 10 yo now left parentless?

Agree --
Furthermore, I am sure that if his doctors recommend it, he will be put in a prison/jail with proper personnel & facilities with professionals who will treat his condition. To be sure, he is not the only prisoner with certain medical needs who require treatment. Prisons are full of people with heart, lung, kidney, AIDS, bipolar, schizophrenic, etc., etc., chronic problems which would need to be treated on some regular basis. They have MDs of all kinds on staff and also other MDs in practice outside the prisons who make rounds regularly or when needed. So, Mommy, get real and know that your son is, at least for now and probably a good while, property of the justice/criminal system.
