‘I’ll never give up’: Family offers $5,000 reward for information on missing Petersburg woman

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - A Petersburg family is not giving up on their search to find Sherrell Brown, who has been missing since Sept. 1, 2023.

On Saturday, one day after Brown’s 53rd birthday, her family held a cookout at Farmer Street Park to raise awareness and remind the community about the search to bring Sherrell back home safe.

Brenda Blackwell, Sherrell’s mother, said she won’t stop searching until she knows where her daughter is.

“I just want everybody to know that I’m never going to give up looking for my daughter and I’m praying that she’s somewhere safe,” she said. “We’re going to put up more fliers after all of this is done.”

“I don’t think she would survive out here without any medication,” Blackwell said.

Over the past nine months, Blackwell has taken care of her daughter’s young grandchildren, who Brown is the legal guardian of. They are also wrapping their heads around what has happened to their mother figure.

“The six-year-old doesn’t understand it,” Blackwell said. “He just knows she’s not here — and he’ll come over here [and say,] ‘My mom been gone for a long time now. She supposed to be back home.’ And how do you respond to that?”

Brown was last seen by her husband in Petersburg on the night of September 1.

"She asked me to take her somewhere so the kids could have someone to play with and I said 'No, just stay at home and watch movies.' It's the last time I talked to her," Brown's mother, Brenda Blackwell said.

Sherrell and Blackwell had been talking about getting her kids ready for school - a 6-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl are Brown's grandchildren, but she and her husband have custody.

It's something Brown's mother says she fought for, and would never leave them. "She would be here for the children," Blackwell said.

Blackwell said that, along with the great concern for Brown’s wellbeing, there is a greater need due to her health complications, which have caused her to endure multiple trips to the hospital.

“She has diabetes, and she has trouble with low blood sugar that would cause her to faint,” she said. “She also has seizures prior to having aneurism surgery, so they would pop up at different times.”

8News was told Brown was in the hospital shortly before she went missing.

“We even went so far as to check her bank accounts — she hasn’t taken out any money,” Blackwell explained. “She needed medication, she hasn’t gone to the pharmacy or to her doctor…we’ve tried everything.”

I’m bumping for Brown’s case.

It’s still recent enough case that should be rehashed a lot to try and get answers.

In all likelihood Sherrell’s disappearance has something to do with her brain/physical health. To me this points to two most likely outcomes: she wound up wandering into a wooded area someplace, even if it’s within a metro, and passed away. OR, she wandered and became confused but remained of otherwise sound health and got help, and is being cared for unidentified somewhere. Between those two outcomes I’d say it’s 50/30 respectively, with 20% being something else entirely.

Be blessed
