VA - "Shopping Cart Killer" - SK - 4 bodies found, LE suspects more along east coast, 2021 *arrest*

  • #61
Does that mean that the first two were murdered at the Moon Inn, Fairfax County, and their bodies were found near the motel ... and, is that where there is footage of the suspect twice with a body in a shopping cart?

His next two victims were found 2 hours away on Linda Lane, Harrisonburg. They lived in Harrisonburg and Charlottesville.

Does that mean that he gets rid of the bodies quickly, and limits the number of bodies per location to two.

His timeline is:

Thursday, August 19
Thursday, September 30 (6 weeks later)
Sunday, October 24 (3.5 weeks later)
Sunday, November 14 (3 weeks later)

Is there another set of two bodies found at another location? Are their victims in April or March? Are there more victims within 2-4 hours from these victims.

I believe the video footage is at the second location where the bodies of Redmon and Smith were found. They were found first, before Brown and Harrison, even though Brown and Harrison were killed first.

Chronology of investigation:

‘Shopping Cart Killer' Investigated in Virginia, Remains Found in Fairfax Co.

The bodies of Redmon and Smith were found a short distance from each other in a lot in a commercial district of Harrisonburg on Nov. 23, the city’s chief of police, Kelley Warner said at the news conference Friday. Police believe the women were killed at different times. A shopping cart was found nearby.

Robinson was arrested after cellphone records and video evidence linked him to the women.

Days later, on Nov. 30, D.C. police contacted Harrisonburg police and told them about Brown, who had disappeared. Cellphone data and surveillance footage would later show that Brown and Robinson were together on the night the woman was last seen, police said.

A coordinated effort between the Harrisonburg and D.C. police departments began.

A week later, on Dec. 7, D.C. police called Fairfax County police and asked for help finding Brown, the Fairfax County police chief said. Digital data showed Brown and Robinson had been on Route 1 together, “possibly at the Moon Inn” on the night of her disappearance, he said.

Detectives and a cadaver dog searched the area but were unsuccessful. Members of the police department went to Harrisonburg to meet with police and gather information.

Ten days later, on Wednesday, Dec. 15, police received new information and returned to Route 1 to expand their search. Homicide detectives found something in a wooded area near the Moon Inn.

“Remembering that the victims in the Harrisonburg murders were transported by using a shopping cart, detectives observed a shopping cart in the wooded area not far from the Moon Inn. Beside the shopping cart was a lone container,” said Ed O'Carroll, commander of the major crimes unit in Fairfax County.

Police acted quickly when two women were reported missing within 9 days (from Harrisonburg, Charlottesville). The time between the second missing woman's report, and the discovery of body, was 4 days. That's impressive.
  1. Reported Missing: August 31, 2021 in California, missing posters displayed near Moon Inn, Fairfax County (no national missing report) (found Dec 15)
  2. Reported missing: October 11, 2021 (found Dec 15)
  3. Police report: November 10, 2021 (found Nov 23)
  4. Report missing: November 19, 2021 (found Nov 23)
I think there should be some changes to ensure that local police are informed when women from somewhere else, like California, are missing in the area. The body locations were connected via shopping cart.

The last two women were reported missing 9 days apart and the first to be found on Nov 23 - near a shopping cart.

Thank you. Investigators must be looking at his cell data and locations for at least a year before the first victim vanished.

His victims were vulnerable :

Age: 48, schizophrenic, Caucasian
Age: 29, pregnant, Black
Age 54, widow, Caucasian
Age 39, mother of 6, Black

wasnt there a case with two women found together in NY some years ago?

ETA i cant find it but i remember two women's bodies found almost on top of each other some years ago in poss upstate NY. it wasnt the ones this year, it was awhile ago, maybe 2015-17.

I seem to recall one or more bodies in a shopping cart near a railroad track in one of the NYC boroughs in that time frame. Time to go see if I remember how to search...

Did the suspect, introduced as homeless to the brother of the murdered pregnant woman, lure women by pretending to be a businessman staying at a nice hotel? There must be a reason why several women met him at a hotel. Were they offered an all expense paid luxury weekend getaway?

If the pregnant victim thought he was homeless, why did she invite him to her mother's home while her mother was away? Why did she meet him at the Moon Inn if she believed he was homeless? Did he lie to her and coerce her to lie to her brother?

Perhaps he became whatever he needed to become in order to lure each woman (a chameleon). Stephanie Harrison’s sister said that they did not know each other and were staying in separate rooms, so it may have been opportunistic in her case, rather than a pre-planned liaison. I do wonder, however, if they had met online. It seemed a little odd to me that Stephanie would fly east to tour D.C. by herself instead of going with a friend or her sister.

He established online dating connections with several women between August and November, 2021.

The 48 year old schizophrenic grandmother from California did not provide details of her planned trip to family. After she disappeared, family tracked her to Moon Inn, Fairfax County using bank records. There is no explanation for her to go there in August 2021 during pandemic. As you point out, it could be online dating/luring. Seems likely that this vulnerable woman, similar to the 54 year old widow, thought she had found love and was too polite to act on the warning signs.

I think it's 50-50 that she was lured there for a date, and that she just happened to check into the same remotely located motel as a murderer one Thursday evening.

Thank you! She seems like a likely victim - question is finding the body, I suppose. Does the DA need a body to file charges, or can it be proven using something else, like digital trail?
they think she was found, but has not been identified yet.

Yes, Anthony Robinson, age 35, believed to have lived in many locations along the east coast.

Given that he murdered 4 women between August and November 2021, a three month period, there's a good chance that he murdered other women before he became that bold about being seen on CCTV removing bodies with shopping carts.

The last 4 women were found in sets of 2, a shopping cart was used for transport. All four victims were vulnerable: pregnant, widowed in her late 50s, schizophrenic, single mother of 6.

Earlier victims, in my opinion, may not be next to a shopping cart or the other murder scenes. He murdered women at pre-planned hotel locations, then near their homes. The first two murders were a couple of hours away from the next two.

He's in his mid-30s. He might have been murdering women for 15 years. It doesn't seem like something that men start at age 35 or 50. Seems like something that sets in early in life.

Where was he during the last 15 years, have any bodies been found at+ those locations?

I'm curious - do we know where he lived on each of the murder/last seen dates? I'm guessing that the further he lived from the murders, the longer he's been murdering.

Remember that they often dip in and out of killing and find other (Usually criminal) activities to keep them happy.

Sometimes, they revert to rape, sometimes they delve into substance abuse, or something else like robbery, or some scam.

We used to think the only reason they weren't killing was, because they were either incarcerated, or because they were incapacitated, we now know that not to be true

They can turn it on and off like a switch.

Sometimes, they just stop altogether for a period of time, which usually that has something to do with their current situation or environment, something like work, or they are with someone, they may be under some type of custody agreement like probation or parole, possibly having to care for a sick relative, some stop due to personal things like the birth of their kids , they may have had a health crisis where they were physically unable for a time ,in extremely rare cases they may have an actual change of heart, (though usually not enough to turn themselves in though but some have) or sometimes they no longer find a thrill in it, but most often...... they were close to getting caught, and got spooked.

Age wise, the mean age for Serial murder to begin his crimes (Murder as a series) is usually between 27-36, so hes not out of that age, that's not set in stone, some start as kids, some have started much later in life .

In terms of numbers I generally feel with most Serial killers , you can generally add 1-5 onto their count , though it can go much higher .
